This year we will lead off a tremendous set of bulls with our Grand Champion Pen of Three Bulls at the 2024 Cattlemen’s Congress. We believe that this offering of bulls are proof that when you set high standards for elite phenotype and genotype, together the results are the “right kind of cattle.” We believe the quality in this year’s Champion Pen of Three is equally as deep as the past Champions, which included Boyd Bellringer and Boyd Justification.
We are always asked about trucking arrangements. We make every attempt to work with our buyers to coordinate trucking and delivery in the most economical manner possible. When possible, we try to make the local and regional deliveries ourselves as we enjoy getting to know each of you and seeing your programs. However, there are times where scheduling does not work out. Please keep in mind - We will always try to work with you!

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
Cattle will sell under the suggested terms and conditions of both the American Angus Association and the American Hereford Association. Terms of the sale are cash and settlement is expected at the conclusion of the auction.
HERD HEALTH:
All of the bulls are eligible for interstate shipment and will have proper health papers. All the bulls have been vaccinated for Blackleg, IBR, PI3, BVD, and Dewormed with Ivomec. They have also passed a BSE and are ready for service.
INSURANCE:
A representative of James F. Bessler Inc. will be available sale day to assist with insurance arrangements.
LOCATION:
The sale will be held at the Boyd Beef Sale barn located at 6670 US Hwy 68 just south of Mays Lick and approximately 8 miles south of Maysville, KY.
LUNCH: Lunch will be served at 11:00 am. Sponsored by Hinton Mills.
Each buyer who brings their trailer and picks up their purchases sale day will receive $50 off the purchase price of each bull.
FIRST BREEDING SEASON GUARANTEE:
We understand that injuries do happen during the first breeding season. If for any reason a purchased bull injures himself to where he is unable to service and settle a cow, we will provide either a satisfactory replacement, if one is available, or credit it in a future sale equal to the purchase price and less salvage value.
We define the first breeding season as the first 90 days following the day of turnout. Keep in mind this is not a mortality insurance policy. We suggest you contact an insurance representative to inquire about mortality insurance (a representative will be available sale day). We will replace and credit bulls when a licensed veterinarian determines a bull to be a non-breeder within the first breeding season.
It is mandatory that you contact the seller immediately when an injury is discovered and within the first breeding season time frame.
BOYD BEEF CATTLE – MATERNAL MATTERS
Every decision at Boyd Beef starts with the cow. We believe our cowherd is responsible for our success. That’s why we are strict in our selection for udder quality, feet, and leg structure, fleshing ability, body volume, moderate mature size, and fertility. We demand our cows to raise a big calf, rebreed timely and have added longevity. Therefore, we have went the extra mile to participate in the Maternal Plus whole herd reporting program, where we record fertility and longevity data on every female in our herd. We also place special emphasis on the $Maternal index that takes into account the traits that are critical to profitability for the majority of our customer base, as it selects for weaning weight, calving ease, moderate mature size, fertility, docility, and foot quality. If you sell your calves at weaning, after preconditioning or retain replacement females we’d strongly encourage you to take a look at $M.

As a service to our bull customers, we invite you to take advantage of our feeder calf marketing program. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for you to reap the benefits of purchasing superior genetics and providing sound management. The Boyd/Myers tag means quality genetics to the buyer, coupled with our recommended management of 60 day weaning with two rounds of vaccine, put you in the front of the line in terms of demand for your calves. Calves carrying the Boyd/Myers tags can be marketed at any time through Blue Grass markets and will be promoted fiercely. Your communication on when you plan to market and what management protocol you have followed is vital in helping promote your cattle. Special dedicated sales for Boyd/Myers calves may be scheduled and will be announced.
The basic health program that we recommend for the calves is:
• Weaned at least 60 days
• Pasteurella
• 2 rounds of viral vaccines, 1 of which is modified live
• dewormed, dehorned, knife castrated and healed.
• 2 rounds of Clostridials(Blackleg)
Ear tags for the program are provided by Blue Grass Stockyards at no cost to you and will be shipped from them directly to you. When your tags are shipped there will be a health form included that you will need to fill out and bring with your cattle when you deliver.
