HERD HEALTH

The PCL herd is part of the verified beef program. We keep a wealth of information on this herds activities and treatments with regards to preventive and therapeutic protocols as well as nutrition. We want to be totally transparent and care about the consumers down the line. The herd is on a yearly mineral program which is boosted prior to and during the early breeding season. In January, the calving herd was vaccinated with Scourguard 4KC, Covexin Plus(clostridia) and injected with Vitamin AD. As calves are born, they are weighed with a scale within a day of age, given inforce intranasal and Vitaferst-Care orally. Heifer and bull calves are tattooed, and the first selection of steers takes place. All cows are teat and udder scored prior to the newborn nursing. The yearling heifers were given Vision 8/Somnus and Cattlemaster Gold FP5 in early May. At pasture turnout, the baby calves were given Pyramid FP5 &Presponse, Vision 8 Somnus, and Safeguard orally(dewormer). A second cull on bull calves occurs at this time. Late summer, the calves were weighed and revaccinated with Pyramid FP5 & Prespnse, vision 8/Somnus. Calves were weaned September 13, given Vitamin AD,and another cull of bull calves occurred. Calves are fed good quality grass hay and textured grain to aim for a rate of gain of 1.75 to 2.0 lbs on heifers and 2.75 to 3.0 lbs on bull calves. No Silage is ever fed to anything here. September 23, the bred heifers (J), were given Viamin AD , express FP5, and Scourguard 4KC. Late October, the cows were given Express FP5, Vitamin AD, and Clean-Up topically. The bred heifers(J) were given Clean-Up for lice control. Early November entire herd treated with Clean Up for lice control. The herd has been preg checked twice, once early to more accurately identify early services and pregnant recips, and a second time after the bulls were pulled.
