When Kelly and I started our Hereford herd, we planned to have about 20 cows. Of course, that number has greatly increased over the years along with our enthusiasm for breeding registered cattle, both Hereford and Angus. So many friends have been made over the 40-plus years that we’ve been very involved with our cattle operation. We truly love and appreciate all of our customers, friends and acquaintances that have come from our cattle program. Writing this letter is always a super emotional high for me, because thankfully GOD has blessed me to live one more year to see all these beautiful Hereford and Angus calves be born. It’s of upmost importance that we ensure the future generations of our family to have the opportunity to stay in the cattle business. It’s very important to Kelly and I to leave the cattle herd, and more importantly the Land, in a more abundant, fruitful way than we found it. We feel like the best cross for commercial operations is the Black Baldy, which fits so well with the Hereford and Angus. We are truly excited about the future of our Hereford operation as well as our Angus operation. Kelly and I had so much joy watching Randa show and display her Herefords at numerous shows. Randa wanted to pursue her education at Auburn University while still continuing to be involved with our cattle breeding. She received her master’s degree from Auburn University, making me and Kelly truly proud. It was at Auburn University that Randa met John Starnes, who would become our son-in-law.
The excitement for Tennessee River Music, Inc. only grew when Kelly and I became aware that John and Randa wanted to stay close to the land and cattle and work tirelessly to improve the genetics and merchandising of our Hereford and Angus cattle. In my opinion, John and Randa have certainly succeeded in the short period of time that they have been heavily involved in our operation.
Now we add Harper Rose and John Owen to the roster of being involved in showing and displaying our cattle. It was an extremely emotional moment to see Harper Rose win the Champion Pee Wee Showmanship in Madison, Wisconsin. She had worked so hard, and it was tears of joy that filled our eyes to see her be so successful. Harper Rose runs cross country at school; she is an honor student as well. John Owen is playing football and baseball this year; says he wants to “show a bull.” HA! Looking into the future, Kelly and I have wishes that Harper Rose and John Owen and their families desire to stay here close to the land, involved with future generations of Hereford and Angus cattle. It’s wonderful to know that Harper Rose and John Owen have grandparents on both sides of the family who love them dearly. It’s a true blessing.
I am extremely grateful for Roland, John Eberhart, Chuck and Jayden, who play such a vital role in keeping our dreams rolling!!
Thank you for your participation in DIXIELAND DELIGHT 41! Thank you for making DIXIELAND DELIGHT a reality for all of us for the past 41 years!! We can’t live the dream without your help, and we are truly blessed to be Angus and Hereford breeders.
GOD Bless Y’all.
Entertainment Friday night will be special, with Megan Mullins Owen and her group entertaining. You don’t want to miss it. Thanks again. See you May 3rd and 4th for DIXIELAND DELIGHT 41
Sincerely,
Randy OwenWhat a blessing it is to welcome you to our 41st Production Sale! Let this letter serve as your official invitation to attend! As we’re writing this letter, it is 55 degrees and raining and providing some much-needed moisture. While our winter was relatively mild, it is not wanting to totally allow the spring season to settle in. We have had several “tastes” of spring, we’re just waiting on the whole plate of spring cake to arrive. Thankfully, the long spells of cold weather are in the rearview mirror.
Last year for our 40th consecutive sale, we had our largest and deepest offering to date at that point, and this year for our 41st consecutive female sale, from top to bottom this is without a doubt the best set we have assembled. From the udder and teat quality on the females to the stout baby calves on their side, this group as a whole is truly remarkable. We are very excited to share these genetics with you and have them be a part of your program. While there are not as many in the fall pair division, the quality is outstanding. Once again, this year we are loaded for bear in the Hereford spring pair division, with many calves having breed-leading EPDs. While the spring cows are tremendous from top to bottom, the calves at their sides are a true highlight as well. Many of the calves are sired by Merit, Distinct, and Houston. Merit is already making a mark in the Hereford breed. We are very excited about the future with Merit in the way his calves maintain very high-quality phenotype and possess breed-leading EPDs. He truly is one that puts the whole package together. The spring cows will receive one service AI before the sale to Merit or Red Man, so there is a strong possibility of buying three-in-one pairs. Red Man is also a homozygous polled bull. We selected Red Man from Matheny Herefords to complement our Merit-sired females, and he is now getting heavy AI use by very prominent herds across the country. He will be on display sale day. We don’t know where to start on featuring the spring pairs— they are loaded with the most notable cow families in the Hereford breed. The opportunities are endless, with many needing to enter a donor program. We are excited for each of you to be able to see what we have to offer. We are truly blessed to work side by side with our family and loved ones. Living and working with family on our cattle operation is something we don’t take for granted, and we are forever grateful to the good Lord above for the blessings of being able to do what we love. We can’t thank “Da” Roland, Nonnie, Poppy and Mimi enough for all they do here at TRM and for us as a family. Adrian and Chuck keep everything rolling at Lookout Mountain Genetics. John Eberhart and Jaden Hardy have stepped up to the plate in a big way with all daily tasks that are too long to mention in this letter. It would take a book to write what all they do throughout the days and weeks here at TRM. We are truly blessed with a great crew, and without each of them and yourselves, we wouldn’t be able to do any of this. It’s said the days are long, but the years are short. Ranch life sure makes that statement ring true, as we work sun up ’til sun down.
Honesty and integrity are something we take very seriously, and our motto is quite simple: We raise the type and kind of livestock that are stout, sound and functional and can flat get the work done all while having respectable EPD profiles. We have never chased EPD fads and breed for a more uniform, balanced animal that can thrive in our Southeastern environment. Everything we know about the cattle, you will too. Our customers, both big and small, mean the world to us, and we realize that without each and every one of you, none of what we do would be possible. We are forever indebted to our past, present and future customers. Please make plans to join us Friday, May 3, to view the cattle and enjoy fellowship among other breeders. If you ever need anything, or if we can help you in any way, please don’t hesitate to call anyone here at the ranch. We appreciate you and value your friendship more than you could imagine. We are blessed to call TRM customers our friends and colleagues, and we would love the opportunity to work with you.

Welcome to the 41st Annual Dixieland Delight Sale at Tennessee River Music, Inc. This 2024 edition of the TRM spring female production sale is among the largest offerings to date. It is a celebration of over four decades in the registered business and once again features the best of both breeds at TRM. I hope you will join us for this “Red, White and Black” event.
I would first like to thank Randy, Kelly, John, Randa, Roland and the rest of the TRM crew for again allowing me to assist them in the marketing of this exceptional set of cattle. John and Randa continue to embrace their role as parents to Harper and John Owen and their management role here at TRM. With the help of their family and crew, they have again assembled a tremendous offering, and the presentation of the cattle is second to none.
This year’s edition of the Dixieland Delight features 1/2 interest in Miss Harper’s best donor, “Lady,” as well as a flush on the $100,000-valued 0043H. The highest Marbling EPD and second highest Combined $Value Angus heifer ever offered at TRM sells plus another tremendous set of Hereford spring pairs that were acquired in their acquisition of the Shaw Cattle Co. spring herd in 2022 as well as fall pair splits in both breeds. This offering continues the tradition of offering sound, functional cattle that excel in phenotype and individual performance while maintaining a strong genetic base with numerical balance and diversity. Whether you are adding to your herd, seeking an outstanding donor dam, a junior herd sire, or you’re looking for your next show ring champion, you will find it among this exceptional offering.
For those of you who have not attended a TRM sale, you are in for a real treat. This is a family operation, and the hospitality and entertainment extended by the Owen family is like no other. They work very hard on the presentation of the cattle, and you are sure to appreciate their efforts once you lay eyes on this exceptional offering.
Please evaluate the needs of your operation and plan to join us Friday, May 3rd to preview the cattle and on Saturday, May 4th, for this great event. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions on either breed or if I can help you in any way.
Sincerely,
Matt Sims

IN THE SPRING OF 2022, the loss of a longtime pasture lease led to one of the largest buying opportunities the Hereford breed has ever known from one of the breed leaders in registrations. Tennessee River Music, Inc. chose to take advantage by purchasing 200 spring pairs and 100 spring bred heifers from Shaw Cattle Company in Idaho. We at TRM were immediately rewarded for this investment when one-half interest in the pick of the two-year-old spring pairs sold as added Lot X in the 2022 Dixieland Delight to Salt Log Branch for $50,000. We already knew the quality of Shaw females and that these cows work in any environment . Bred in a Hereford herd that spans over 85 years and four generations and that represents three past presidents of the American Hereford Association, the /S prefix females feature outstanding genomically enhanced EPD profiles along with impeccable phenotype and udder quality from highly proven pedigrees. As we continue to incorporate these genetics into our breeding program, we are pleased to offer many of these young females and their calves in our 2024 sale. Take advantage of this opportunity and let them work for you!

The spring cows will receive one AI service before the sale to Merit or Red Man, so there is a strong possibility of buying three-in-one pairs. Breeding information will be available on the sale supplement and online at mcsauction.com. The spring calves selling at side are registered, and their current EPDs are included in the catalog. DNA will be submitted on the calves prior to the sale.

• To say that the sire of this mating, Houston, has caused a stir in the Hereford breed would be an understatement. Houston topped the 2021 Sandhill’s sale, bred cows in the pasture for Spring Hill in the summer of 2021 and now is making semen at ST Genetics. This cherry red, homozygous polled son of Daybreak is out of a very complete, good uddered cow and cow family. His granddam, T75, was a donor at Sandhill Farms. His dam, D223, is a great uddered, long sided female with longevity. OUR CATTLE RANCH consists of Angus and Hereford genetics, with an emphasis on quality in all facets, from pasture to rail. The cattle spend the majority of their lives grazing lush, green grass before being finished on a grain-based ration to maximize marbling and taste. We strongly believe the key to quality meat is comfortable, respected and humanely-raised animals. High-quality animals yield a high-quality product. We have a deep love and respect for agriculture, our community, our livestock and the land that has been passed down for generations here in Northeast Alabama. The Market at TRM was created as a way to share our locally-sourced beef with the community. Our dream has long been to bring to families the same homegrown, healthy beef that our families have been enjoying for decades. We believe in all aspects of the cattle industry, and we admire and respect the versatility of the beef animal in all that it provides. We appreciate the opportunity to join you and your family at the dinner table!
