The Icknield Way is probably the oldest road in Britain. Historically a series of routes across the landscape, the Trail is part of an ancient trading route that followed the chalk ridge across southern England, from the Norfolk Coast across East Anglia, to the plains of Wiltshire and on to the coast in Dorset. Today you can make this journey by following four recreational routes – The Peddars Way National Trail, The Icknield Way Trail, the Ridgeway National Trail and the Wessex Ridgeway.

Norfolk Snowdrop Spectacular
Spring, that most welcome celebrity of a season, might announce its arrival in a golden fanfare of daffodils. But its long-awaited appearance is first signalled by the rolling out in early February of nature's own white carpet, as snowdrops challenge the winter to retreat. Across the country, gardens are taken over with a wonderful white display and we include visits to two venues renowned for their gardens.

The theme for the 2013 Hamburg International Garden Show has taken its inspiration from the Jules Verne novel ‘Around the world in 80 days’ with the twist in the title to become ‘Around the world in 80 gardens’. Famous landscape architects the four corners of the earth create 80 inspirational gardens for you to wander through.
The gardens fall into seven categories of themed “Worlds’ such as the “World of religion” and “Water worlds”, each one a marvel that will stimulate the senses.To enhance your visit to northern Germany we have included a visit to the northern port of Lübeck and scheduled in free time in our host town Bad Bramstedt.

Day 1 Saturday. We make our way from Kent to Anglesey Abbey Gardens in Cambridgeshire.The Abbey is surrounded by 98 acres of outstanding landscaped and wildlife gardens. It has more than 240 varieties of snowdrop scattered throughout the 100-acre garden, including Galanthus Lagodechianus.This variety, uncommon in Britain and thought to be a relic from the Crimean War, was one of 17 discovered by Head Gardener Richard Ayres on the site of the garden's Victorian rubbish heap.A watermill in the grounds is in full working order with flour to purchase if you wish.We then travel to our hotel in time to relax before dinner.
Travel from the ‘Garden of England’ that is Kent and discover the beauty of the Harrogate Flower Show to the expansive gardens of Chatsworth House in Derbyshire the snowdrops of Norfolk in early spring to the excitement that is the Chelsea Flower Show.
Day 2 Sunday. After a full breakfast, we visit Blickling Hall. Built in the early 17th century, Blickling Hall is one of England's great Jacobean houses surrounded by superb gardens.The hall unfortunately isn’t open in February but you can explore the historic park with many beautiful woodland and lakeside walks. There are acres and acres of parkland to explore, a Victorian sunken garden, crescent lake, Doric Temple, orangery, formal wilderness garden with radial walks and Secret Garden. Should you prefer, you can spend free time at leisure in Norwich rather than visiting Blickling Hall Gardens. Following our visit, we will make our journey home arriving back late afternoon.

The Harrogate Spring Flower Show is the first major independent horticultural show of the season. Flower Halls 1 and 2 are home to over 100 of the country’s leading horticultural nurseries.The Plant Societies marquee contains the exhibits and demonstrations of many national plant societies, with experts keen to give their advice to any green fingered visitors.
