CHOOSING GOOD MATERIALS We focus on using natural and renewable raw materials in our products. They are safe for people and the environment and are capable of being reused as industrial or biological ingredients. We proudly communicate these values on our Balanced Choice tags. All our products are REACH compliant and we strive to go beyond current norms, for example using natural or non-phthalate plasticizers in a significant part of our vinyl flooring range.
USING NATURAL RESOURCES EFFECTIVELY Tarkett is committed to using natural resources more responsibly, for example by reducing water and energy in the manufacturing of flooring. But we aim to go further. We continually improve our energy consumption, water usage and waste generation through programs like reusing scrap for power generation, temperature control systems and industrial water treatment and water recycling systems.
CREATING SAFER AND HEALTHIER SPACES We’ve focused on indoor air quality because it has a direct impact on human health. Our flooring solutions have emissions below current European standards or even below quantifiable level. We develop our flooring with surface treatments that significantly reduce chemical detergents and water and energy required for cleaning, typically saving up to 30% on maintenance budgets. By offering alternative laying techniques such as click systems, loose-lay and aerosol adhesive, we reduce the use of glue and make installation easier, more economic and environmentally-friendly.
DEVELOPING REUSE AND RECYCLING Reusing waste in new ways avoids landfill. Our ReUse program starts even earlier: by returning installation waste to the manufacturing site to be recycled into new products. This idea isn’t new: Tarkett started recycling materials as early as in 1957 and continues to lead the industry in the recycling of flooring.

MULTILAYER CONSTRUCTION All Tarkett Wood flooring are “multi layer” constructions (engineered construction). This was invented and patented by Tarkett in 1942. It is a fact that wood swells at high humidity and shrinks at low humidity. To minimise this natural movement our wooden floors are built up in three layers. Ensuring there are vertical annual rings in the middle layer and alternating the direction of the fibres in the three layers is an efficient way of counteracting the movement in the wood, creating a balanced floor.

TARKOLAY FOR ADVANCED LOOSE LAYING Tarkolay has been developed for advance problem solving loose laying when there is moisture in the subfloor. Tarkolay is loose laid and then the Tarkett floorcovering is bonded to it.
SOLVES MOISTURE PROBLEMS Moisture in concrete substrates has a high ph and therefore attacks the adhesive, which in turn affects the flooring material. This can cause high levels of unhealthy, allergenic and foul smelling emissions. Tarkolay solves these problems. Tarkolay is moisture resistant and its construction allows ventilation between the flooring material and the subfloor. Tarkolay withstands moisture levels up to 96% RH.
