cuban rain Well-known for his thought-provoking lyrics and open minded attitude.

Cuban Rain is an infectious artist hailed by Platinum Bars as “Captivating ... distinctive ... a timeless perfection.” Cuban is a trailblazing performer of hip-hop music and has collaborated with some of the best in hip-hop. He has performed across the globe, giving music lovers a compelling and persuasive performance to remember. While some artists are seeking for fame and spotlight, Cuban Rain has a more meaningful outlook: truly leaving a mark, expressing himself with a great vision and with lots of passion. It’s not about the money or the fame: it’s about the art first.

It’s not about the money or the fame, it’s about the art first.”

Cuban Rain started rapping when he was just 7 years old, and what was a hobby became so much more: over the years, he refined his natural talent and found a way into the music industry, at first working as a promoter and representative for several major labels. When Cuban is not being a very busy and sought after performer, Cuban can be found producing, writing, and creating films. Currently, he owns and operates his own company, Yasah Entertainment, as he helps fellow talented artists achieve the success they deserve.

As a rapper, Cuban Rain is wellknown for his thought-provoking lyrics and open-minded attitude, as well as for the great production values of his tracks.

SOUNDS OF NIKIA... WITH HER NEW HIT SINGLE “gONE”

I see myself as a part of tradition because I know my music will be around forever.”

P

erformers come and go, but singers, it can be argued, are forever. The Power of Song is not easily forgotten—Whitney Houston, Patti LaBelle, and Denise Williams are voices that linger in the memory. That kind of heartfelt singing is what Nikia aspires to. “These two [Whitney and Patti]

inspired me the most you know they were real vocalists. My Uncle, Charlie Wilson, pushed me to practice and become a great vocalist. You know, practice, practice, practice! He is a singer and was the lead singer of The Gap Band.” Nikia was born in East Meadow, NY. She began singing at the tender age of three and professionally at the age of thirteen. Many outstanding singers begin their journey in vocal groups— Beyoncé Knowles with Destiny’s Child, Patti LaBelle with the Bluebells—and Nikia is no exception. At fourteen, the group Something Serious was the beginning, where she honed her performing skills, how to put a song over to an audience, and writing most of the group’s repertoire as well. As a teenager, Nikia released the album ‘Out Of My Mind’ on the independent Swooper label. Her new release ‘Beautiful Scar’ features material penned by her, including the first single off of the album “Gone”, a slightly different side of Nikia. With an iridescent, sexy alluring sound. “Gone” has a lilt that slightly suggests a rock pop rhythm. Nikia’s voice is romantic longing personified, her clear, honey-toned voice (evoking the classy old-school soul of Denise Williams and the Philly soul of Gamble & Huff) riding the melody with easy, bittersweet poise. Putting the spotlight on the song and the singer (instead of drawing attention to the production itself). “Gone” has a bittersweet pull to it that’s hard to resist, sweet as a brand-new romance, and slightly stinging like a heartache that’s beginning to heal. Love is the drug and Nikia scores with a confidently, sweetly seductively I-Need-You vocal and an undulating, slightly techno-tinged electronic cradle of rhythm. “I see myself as a part of tradition because I know my music will be around forever.” A strong statement, yes, but Nikia has the voice and the commitment to back it up. You got to watch. Website: Soundsofnikia.com Twitter: Hughes_Nikia Facebook: /Nikia-198122076940353/ Instagram: TeamNikia

13 Merchant Table Basics For Bands/Artists

1.

Make sure your signage is big and clear. What are you selling? How much does it cost? Answer those questions for your fans in advance. Then you can spend time talking with them about more interesting things. Even if it’s a brief interaction,

2.

Be at your merch booth before and after the show. No, it’s not ALWAYS going to be possible, especially in larger venues. But it’s a good rule to follow when you can. At a 2000-capacity hall in Portland, Oregon, Macklemore was still hanging out after

night. By minimizing your setup time, you’ll minimize your stress and have more energy to put into your show.

7.

Accept credit cards and make sure your fans know they can whip out the plastic. With Square, or Intuit, or PayPal, you can easily take credit cards at your shows through a smartphone or iPad. Be sure your signage makes it clear to fans that they can use

their Visa, MC, Amex, Discover, etc. (As long as your processing method supports those cards, of course).

13.

Take their cash, even if they don’t have enough! This is certainly debatable, but I think bands who are still working to become full-time should have a kind of” secret sliding-scale” mentality when it comes to merch.

Don’t advertise it, of course — but if someone expresses interest in your $12 CD and they only have $8, take the $8. Let them pay you! If you make a fan, a fan who tells friends about your show and album, that $4 “loss” will have been well worth it. BWD Magazine • www.bwdmagazine.com • 17

pacific radio ‘city by city and note by note’ Largely a collection of upbeat songs about girls that have wronged the charismatic showman, Joe Robinson. Pacific Radio delivers love torn rock and roll ranging from the tongue in cheek “Tight Jeans” to the heartfelt “L.A. is Pretty”. The band is currently promoting their first video and EP, while chipping away at a full length album with Grammy nominated engineer, Eric Weaver. The band started in 2010 when singer, Joe Robinson, and bassist, Joe Stiteler, left the “live wire garage-punk outfit” The Ringers (SPIN 11/08). Upon finishing their demo with recording engineer and guitarist, Kyle Biane, the band promptly took him on as a member. The lineup was solidified in 2015 with professional percussionist and drummer, Hyke Shirinian. Audiences are invigorated by the sing along lyrics, shouting harmonies, complimenting guitars and commanding rhythm section. Pacific Radio is extending their fan base city by city, show by show, and note by note.

We just liked playing music together and smashed out the songs in a month ‘cause we hadn’t put out an album yet. So this time we focused on making an album that was Dunies sound,
