Goodbye for Now to the Patriarch of BWI Companies, Inc. By Jim Bunch, President and CEO

O

n October 4, 2018, the founder and patriarch of BWI departed his earthly life for a life of eternity with his heavenly father. Bob Bunch was born in Arkoma, Oklahoma on September 22, 1933, to Cora and DeWitt Bunch who were vegetable farmers. He worked day labor picking cotton, corn, peas, spinach, and other vegetable crops. His high school ag teacher (Mr. Brown) saw some potential in Bob and helped him get a partial scholarship to Oklahoma State where he later graduated with a master’s degree in Agronomy. While at Oklahoma State, he worked three jobs to pay his tuition, room, and board. He met the love of his life for over 61 years one day when Betty Duncan stopped him on campus and asked him to vote for her for class officer. After graduating from college, Bob took a job as a seed salesman for Ferry-Morse Seed Company. Bob had a customer on Texas Boulevard in Texarkana, Texas who offered to sell his business. Bob and Betty borrowed $1,000.00 and went into business in October of 1958. This was the beginning of what is now BWI Companies, Inc.

2 | BWI Companies, Inc. APRIL 2019 | bwicompanies.com

Bob was an icon in the lawn and garden industry as well as his community. An entrepreneur who wasn’t afraid of hard work or taking risks! I like to use the analogy of a loadbearing wall who would take on challenges, responsibility, and leadership. Once Dad set out to accomplish a mission or task, he persevered until it was accomplished. A former BWI employee and a good friend shared in a letter, “I learned some basic principals that have carried me through my life from Bob Bunch – principal of hard work, integrity, frugality, your word is your bond, and persistence will overcome challenges. I was exposed to work habits and traits of success that few people ever get to experience. The most impressive thing of all is that your Dad accomplished so much while honoring God. He did things the right way, there is no trail of misery from people that were damaged or burned along the way, but there is a trail of gratitude and appreciation from all the people that he helped or touched along the way. One of his.greatest attributes was the ability to get the best out of people.”

The song, “I Lived It” by Blake Shelton, exemplifies what he lived growing up: “Daddy drove the wheel of a flatbed Ford Flier found a hole in the old screen door Uncle Joe put tobacco on my hand when them yellow jackets tore me up”. Bob Bunch lived his life along these lines: • Put others ahead of yourself. Look for ways to help others and make the world a better place. Matthew 22:29 “If you want to leave a meaningful legacy, invest in the lives of the people God brings across your path”. • Don’t get consumed by money or materialistic possessions. Give back more than you take • Don’t be afraid to take risks or challenges in life • Your word is your bond • Be a load-bearing wall and take on responsibilities, challenges, and leadership • Don’t ask anyone to do a job you wouldn’t do yourself • Don’t wait for your ship to come in, swim out to meet it • When you meet your soul mate, be his or her best friend. Be by their side through all the days and nights of your lives • Above all, don’t just profess to be a follower of Jesus Christ, show by your actions that you’re a Disciple of Christ As the song goes, Oh, Man He Lived It! Job Well Done Thy Good and Faithful Servant of God on Earth and Welcome To God’s House for Eternity! bwicompanies.com | APRIL 2019 BWI Companies, Inc. | 3

GET THE MOST FROM YOUR GROWING MEDIA WITH ACTIVE INGREDIENTS By Ed Bloodnick Grower Services Director Premier Tech Horticulture

O

n occasion you may have found that the regular growing medium you bought did not perform exactly to your expectations. Whether the problem was that the mix dried out too slowly or unevenly, your crops had root diseases, etc., growing medium is often singled-out as the cause. However, these problems may be from other reasons during handling or the crop cycle. With many different growing media available, sometimes it can be a challenge to choose which one is best to use. A good solution is to select a growing media with natural microorganisms that reduce cultural challenges and improve crop production. MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICE All growing medium manufacturers offer a variety of formulations for various plant culture applications. Keep in mind that an “original” formulation may work well, but there may be a new, improved formulation and package format that is better adapted for your growing needs. New plant varieties and different container types may dictate use of a different growing medium. Manufacturers may offer growing media by several categories: General transplant, germination, plug, propagation, young plant, by main ingredient (bark, coir, peat) or by weight (light, medium and heavy). Some growing media manufacturers also offer new features, such as active ingredients added to enhance plant growth or suppress root diseases. Check with your supplier for new features and benefits to be sure that you are choosing the best blend for your growing application. ACTIVE INGREDIENTS Biological additives in growing media are active ingredients that enhance the growth of plants by either providing plant growth stimulation or reducing the incidence of root disease and therefore they have a preventative nature. Active Ingredients that

“Calibrachoa cuttings on right showing improved growth with MYCORRHIZAE™”. Source: Premier Tech Horticulture

help with growth stimulation produce healthier plants that can withstand environmental stresses that would otherwise increase crop time and reduce quality. Biological additives that help with suppression of root disease offer growers an option in place of chemical products or they can be used in combination to minimize root disease and produce high quality plants. Active ingredients are a smart option for production of quality plants, particularly when you want to limit the amount of chemical inputs during the crop cycle. The major advantage of Active Ingredients in growing media is that they are already preblended and applied at the correct rate before you plant. When you are ready to plant, you don’t have to worry about the application rate, equipment/labor to apply and you can rest assured that these Active Ingredients will perform. Active Ingredients are cost effective and provide predictable results, offering growers a safer alternative and an additional tool in the integrated pest management toolbox.

6 | BWI Companies, Inc. APRIL 2019 | bwicompanies.com

If there is a history of root disease problems with a specific crop, you may want to consider using a growing medium with active ingredients. Biofungicide is a bacterium (Bacillus pumilus PTB180) in the PRO-MIX line of growing media products and is an active ingredient that helps suppress root pathogens such as Fusarium, Pythium and Rhizoctonia. Mycorrhizae (Glomus intraradices PTB297) is another active ingredient that helps plants by enhancing nutrient uptake that improves overall plant growth, particularly if there is a stressful growing environment. The benefit of these active ingredients is that they are already incorporated in the growing media so there is no mixing or blending. Just plant and these active ingredients are in the root zone to go to work and help plants. Remember to practice good environmental controls in combination with active ingredients to ensure the best performance and disease control. By following these guidelines, you can maximize the use of your growing medium for the best plant growth results.

How to get the most from your preemergence applications

Weather is one of the most unpredictable factors during the spring. Effective broadleaf and grassy weed control begins early in the season with your preemergence herbicide applications where soil temperatures and moisture are critical to success. When applied in early spring, preemergence herbicides provide season-long control of some of the most hated weeds, including crabgrass, goosegrass, prostrate knotweed, pursuant, spurge and yellow woodsorrell (also known as Oxalis stricta). A successful application can help to reduce callbacks and hand-weeding, which cost your business time and money and detract from business-building opportunities. But what if you could get effective weed control with exceptional plant safety? 18 | BWI Companies, Inc. APRIL 2019 | bwicompanies.com

Spring success Using preemergence herbicides is a reliable weed control method, but they must be applied prior to weed seed germination to be effective. Application timing varies based on the geographic location, but most weed seeds generally begin to germinate when the soil temperature reaches 50 F or warmer. Keep in mind that perennial weeds with reproductive parts below ground will not be controlled by a preemergence herbicide. Single applications are often very effective, but turf managers in areas with extremely high weed pressure use split applications to get season-long control. Some will make an application in early spring and then another later in the season. Maintaining a comprehensive weed control program must be a top priority for nursery operators. Weeds compete with desirable nursery stock for water, nutrients and space. In addition, weeds host and attract pests and diseases. Not only does the nursery stock need to be weed-free but also the grounds need to be clean to avoid contamination.

Weed control trifecta Successful preemergence weed control starts by using the right product at the right time. For over-the-top flexibility on field- and container-grown nursery and landscape ornamentals, Dimension® specialty herbicide provides season-long preemergence and early postemergence control of crabgrass along with more than 45 other grassy and broadleaf weeds. It is an ideal wall-to-wall solution for weed control and can be used on established cool- and warm-season seeded, sodded or sprigged turf without staining surroundings.

For preemergence control, Dimension can be applied up to eight weeks prior to crabgrass germination. For early postemergence control, it can be applied up to crabgrass tillering in cool-season turf and when applied in warm-season turf, with the addition of a non-ionic surfactant, it can control up to the five-tiller stage. Snapshot® specialty herbicide offers proven control of more than 125 broadleaf and grassy weeds and is one of the leading preemergence brands for nursery growers. Tested on hundreds of ornamental plants and grasses — including sensitive species, such as hostas, daylilies and black-eyed Susan — Snapshot can be applied to 635 field-grown and 485 container-grown ornamentals without harming them. Snapshot can be applied in early spring prior to germination of target weeds, in late summer to early fall, or immediately after cultivation. It offers long residual control — up to six to eight months of control for field-grown and landscape ornamentals and up to three to five months of control for container-grown ornamentals. The convenient granular formulation bonds tightly with soil particles, and the low water solubility holds Snapshot within the application zone. Gallery® specialty herbicide stops weeds before they germinate, so you won’t spend all season chasing them down with postemergence applications or hand-weeding. Gallery controls more than 95 broadleaf weeds in turf and ornamental settings, making it an ideal border-to-border solution. It can be applied with confidence on 700 fieldgrown and 560 container-grown ornamentals — more than any other preemergence herbicide on the market. Preemergence applications set the stage for season-long weed control. Regardless of the product used, always read and follow label directions to ensure success. Facilities Update The BWI MERIDIAN division’s rail spur is starting to take shape. Dealing with KCS Railroad has proven to be a daunting project. Before work on the new distribution center began, we were negotiating with the KCS railroad for a side track to unload rail cars. Many of BWI’s fall forage seed comes from Oregon and freight is a large part of the cost. To be competitive, we must have rail service at our locations that sell large quantities of fall forage products. Finally, after two years, work has begun and the site work and sub-ballast have been installed. The materials for the track are on site and we are waiting on the switch to be assembled and installed. Division Manager Billy Key said he was going to install it himself if the railroad doesn’t hurry up and finish the installation. The unloading dock and canopy were built as part of the original building project, so they are already in place. Current completion date is projected for April 30, 2019. The BWI KANSAS CITY branch is almost ready to open. This new branch location is located at 11010 Strang Line

Road, Lenexa, KS (just off of I-35). The building is 16,205 sq. ft. total with 1,625 sq. ft. of showroom and office. Division Manager George Armstrong has guided the showroom and office renovations and they look beautiful. Warehouse Manager Eric Cunningham has overseen the warehouse racking installation and products should be arriving in the next two weeks. This branch will primarily service the Pest Control and Landscape and Lawn Care Markets, but also will stock products for Turf and Erosion Control. The opening is scheduled for April so keep an eye out for more to come on the BWI Kansas City branch’s Grand Opening.

to renovate the office portion to include a 1,300 sq. ft. showroom. There will be an abundance of space for will call customers to pick up and park with trailers and large vehicles. The remodel and build out will begin in April with a completion and opening date of June 1. This branch will also service the Pest Control, Lawn Care, Landscape, Turf and Erosion Control market types. The real estate market is very tight in Nashville, and Division Manager Jay Hooten and Sales Manager Donnie Spence have been searching for the RIGHT location for over 1 ½ years. This is the location we have been searching for.

The BWI NASHVILLE branch is OFF the drawing board and starting to take shape. BWI’s newest branch location will be located at 1044 Firestone Parkway in La Vergne, TN (just off I-24 located in Interchange City Industrial Park) and only 16 miles south of downtown Nashville. This standalone 9,000 sq. ft. building consists of 2,000 sq. ft. of showroom and offices and 7,000 sq. ft. of warehouse on a 3-acre site. Plans have been developed

The BWI GREENVILLE division is ready for its second expansion. Under Warehouse Manager Jeff Frix and Division Manager Bryan Whiffen’s directions, the foundation for a 14,500 sq. ft. expansion to their current building was put in place in early 2018. Late last year the building was ordered and has been delivered to the job site. With favorable weather and movement of products stored on this site, the building erection will take place April/

May with a June completion date. This will add to the BWI Greenville division’s current warehouse space of 64,000 sq. ft., bringing their total up to 78,500 sq. ft. The BWI DALLAS division scheduled some time during the Christmas holidays to remodel their restrooms and offices and added new floor covering throughout. In January the BWI Dallas division was successful in acquiring an additional 25,000 sq. ft. of warehouse and office space in a building adjacent to their current location. Warehouse Manager John Brown quickly filled this additional space with inventory for the upcoming spring sales. During this time Division Manager Rick Newell and Sales Manager Tom Benton started looking at this space and decided a NEW larger conference/ meeting room would be a great benefit to our customers. Plans were drawn and revised several times, but the end result is a 3,000 sq. ft. meeting room capable of seating 64 people. A serving area, new restrooms, and lobby were also in the plans. Work began on this project in late February with an April 1 completion date.

BWI Dallas

New LED motion sensitive lighting has been installed in this addition. Racking will be installed in the warehouse portion of this expansion once inventory levels are reduced to accommodate the racking. The old conference room walls were demolished, and new flooring installed. This added 1,000 sq. ft. of additional space to the BWI Dallas showroom. The BWI AUSTIN branch opened in fall of 2018. This location, 3815-B Jarrett Way (Corridor Park 2 close to I-35) Austin, TX encompasses 10,367 sq. ft. total with 2,100 sq. ft. in showroom and offices and 8,267 sq. ft. in the warehouse. Division Manager Dennis Brower and Sales Manager Craig Schulz searched for months for a suitable location in North Austin. The office and showroom reconfiguration was completed in late summer and the racking was installed in September. The Pest Control, Landscape, Turf, and Erosion Control branch opened November 1, 2018. We feel this new location will be very successful.

The BWI SEMMES branch began the design and construction of a 6,000 sq. ft. expansion to their current building in August 2018. Division Manager Billy Key and Branch Manager Chase Norris were instrumental in the design and construction of this project. This addition doubled the total sq. ft. of the Semmes location to 12,000 sq. ft. The project moved quickly with the help of a Top Notch contractor, Mosley Building Systems. The Certificate of Occupancy was issued on December 10, 2018. The warehouse racking was installed just as inventory arrived for spring early orders. This location will now better service the Semmes and Mobile, AL customers.

BORATES, BORA-CARE AND BORA-CARE WITH MOLD-CARE Lee Barrett, Vice President, Pest Control, Nisus Corporation

Different formulations of borate products and their use patterns make them one of the most ubiquitous insecticides in the market. Many insects and wood destroying organisms can be controlled with borates, making borates an excellent choice for prevention and remediation of a long list of wood destroying organisms (WDO). One of the greatest aspects of the borate disodium octoborate tetrahydrate (DOT) is its ability to preserve and protect wood. Bora-Care’s patented DOT liquid formula penetrates wood to kill and prevent wood destroying organisms, including worker termites, feeding larvae of beetles and decay fungi, leaving behind residual protection. The addition of Mold-Care will also kill mold and help prevent regrowth. The market for wood destroying beetle preventative and remediation work is growing, and the opportunities for work in the residential and commercial markets are increasing each year. Unfortunately, there is often misunderstanding about beetle biology and behavior, and as a result, proper expectations are often not well communicated to the customer. In fact, in 2018 the technical staff at Nisus Corporation

received more calls about beetles than any other pest, and the majority of calls were from homeowners asking questions about both the process and the PMP! Borates are the only products in the market that kill and help prevent future beetle attacks and preserve the wood from decay after infestations have been eradicated. Multiple formulations exist, and each must be applied to bare wood – topcoats must be sanded off prior to treatment. Bora-Care with Mold-Care is the only product on the market that is a wood preservative, termiticide, insecticide and moldicide. This unique combination preserves the wood and protects from drywood termites, wood destroying beetles and decay fungi in addition to killing mold on contact and helping to prevent mold from growing back. Bora-Care with Mold-Care is ideal for wood members that have been compromised from flooding, continuous wetness and other calamities. For termites, like most other organisms, the probability of attack is greater with decayed wood, which is eaten faster and preferred over sound wood as it promotes digestion and increases foraging. When conditions are optimal for longer periods of time, larger

30 | BWI Companies, Inc. APRIL 2019 | bwicompanies.com

colonies and larger individuals result. Spot treatment using Bora-Care prevents re-use of termite tunnels and decay of infested wood. A case for mold remediation and restoration of flooded structures using Bora-Care and Bora-Care with Mold Care: Within the past five years many areas of the U.S. have been flooded with thousands of homes and businesses damaged due to torrential storm activity. Using a protocol with Bora-Care and Bora-Care with MoldCare along with other key products can help restore flooded structures as well as help prevent resulting pest infestations, decay fungi and mold growth. Nisus Corporation recommends reviewing the procedures created by FEMA and U.S. Dept of Energy to insure an absolute proper procedure and result.

10 STEPS TO PROTECT STRUCTURES AFTER FLOODING: STEP 1.

Wear appropriate protective gear and make sure the electricity and HVAC are off.

STEP 2.

Begin removing mud, flooded furniture, appliances, carpets and flooring.

STEP 3.

Clean thoroughly and disinfect with an appropriate EPA registered disinfectant, sanitizer and virucide like Nisus DSV. If needed, apply again after drywall is removed and area is clean.

STEP 4.

Cut out drywall two feet above the highest water line to allow for proper drying. If drywall is being removed above four feet, consider removing all the drywall for simpler installation of new drywall. Nisus Corporation specifically advises all parties that mold will eventually grow in conducive conditions. Since Nisus Corporation cannot control such conducive conditions, Nisus Corporation shall not be liable for any liabilities, claims, damages or the like in any way related to or arising in connection with the occurrence or presence of mold. For more information as well as additional warranties and disclaimers, see the product label, the Mold and Fungi Technical Bulletin or www.nisuscorp.com. *Always check state regulations regarding mold prevention and control. Remember, always read, understand and comply with the product label. See label for First Aid, Precautionary Statements and complete Directions for Use.

STEP 5.

To clean mold stains, spray affected areas with MoldClean, scrub as necessary, then rinse with clean water.

STEP 6.

To kill mold* and stop wood decay, treat all exposed wood using Bora-Care with Mold‑Care in a 5:1 solution. Wood can still be wet when this product is applied.

STEP 7.

Apply termite protection with a 2-foot band treatment using Bora-Care in a 1:1 solution. Application by a professional pest control company is necessary to receive a termite warranty or bond. Note that BoraCare and Bora-Care with Mold-Care also protect against other wood destroying organisms (see labels).

STEP 8.

Begin circulating fresh air using fans and dehumidifiers if available.

Lee Barrett, Vice President, Pest Control, Nisus Corporation

STEP 9.

Use a moisture meter to determine when wood is 15% or less moisture content. Once dry, the home is ready for repair.

STEP 10.

If the home has odor issues, spray Bac-Azap on all affected areas and repeat as necessary.

FORFALL

By Will Welch, Key Accounts Manager

As the proverbial ‘slow boat from China’ makes its way across the Pacific, bearing BWI’s Bogs footwear stock, let’s take the time to see what is ‘afoot’ in this category for fall sales. BWI is adding five styles to its stocking offering for fall. As always, orders totaling over $850 are shipped free of freight on stocking styles at anytime.

KIDS’ CLASSIC HIGH

The kids’ Classic High in Mossy Oak, continues to be one of the more popular styles in the Bogs’ line and was strongly booked again this year, leading to its inclusion as a stocking style. Available in sizes from a child’s 10, up to a youth 6, this full camo boot offers 100% waterproofing and comfort, rated to -30 degrees. Its height keeps feet and pants legs dry while the Max-Wick lining with Durafresh keeps the inside dry and comfortable, also fighting odors. Suggested retail is $80.00.

STOCKMAN

In many work environments, a 45 degree heeled boot is desirable, especially those involving ladder usage. The Stockman is Bogs’ heeled ‘seamless’ work boot. Seamless-technology is the next step in the improvement of rubber neoprene footwear. Rather than multiple layers of rubber vulvanized around a neoprene bootie, seamless models are constructed through a compression process leaving little to no possibility of splitting or cracking as vulcanized models will do as their life span nears its conclusion. Seamless models have been tested to 2.9 million flexes versus vulcanized models which typically fail after one million flexes. That’s the equivalency of walking 1400 miles! Seamless models are also 30% lighter! The Stockman is rated at -72 degrees and its Rebound cushioning provides lasting comfort. Suggested retail is $150.00.

34 | BWI Companies, Inc. APRIL 2019 | bwicompanies.com

MADRAS

For female hunters, the Madras, in Mossy Oak, gives performance at an economical price. Rated to 5 degrees, it is, as all Bogs are, 100% waterproof and its Blaze Orange lining helps allay safety concerns in the woods. It also has the DuraFresh biotechnology to fight odors and the Max-Wick lining moves sweat away from the foot’s surface, keeping them dry and warm. Suggested retail is $110.00.

NEO-CLASSIC LINEN The Neo-Classic Linen Tall in Black Multi for ladies is a stylish, comfortable boot, at home on a cold, slushy street, or treading through messy stalls or barns. Boasting seamless construction and the Rebound comfort story, along with its fashionable looks, there will be no reason to change boots before ‘going to town’, just hose off and go! Suggested retail is $130.00.

SAUVIE CAMP Even after the hunt is done, the need for comfortable, dependable footwear continues, which is where the Sauvie Camp comes in. An easy-on, easy-off design, it is 100% waterproof and the Rebound impregnated sole is comfort personified, giving your retail customer that ‘A ha!’ moment when they first put it on. Suggested retail is $110.00.

These new styles will be in and available for shipping by August, but quantities past any bookings, are limited, so contact your BWI representative for a future ship date to guarantee availability. As a reminder, BWI offers access to every style that Bogs makes, above and beyond the ‘core’ models we stock. Outside of the booking program, orders for non-stock styles are plus freight, contact your BWI representative for pricing and availability or call 1-888-741-7400 to speak with BWI-Bogs customer service.

BACK-TO-BACK DIVISION OF THE YEAR For the second year in a row, the BWI Texarkana Division was named Division of the Year during the annual President’s meeting which was held on December 6th and 7th in Texarkana, TX. Ron Riddle, Division Manager, states, “All of our employees know how difficult it is to win Division of the Year, especially considering there are seven other BWI locations who are working just as hard as we are to finish at the top. It truly is a TEAM effort that is displayed throughout all three locations: Texarkana, Forest Hill, and New Summerfield. From our seasoned territory managers driving revenue, to a group of drivers who serve as delivery ambassadors to our customers, to a maintenance crew that keeps our delivery equipment in “top notch” condition, to an office staff who serve in various resource roles to accommodate our sales efforts, and to our warehouse team members who are responsible for making certain product is received, stored and shipped in an efficient manner; it is evident that having quality team members is the key to our success.” Pictured: 1. Horse Health 101 Kevin Cox, DVM, Chief Operating Officer for Alliance Animal Care

A

s winter breaks and spring begins, there are several considerations to keep horses healthy that are relevant this time of year. First and foremost, all horses that travel and come into contact with other horses are required by federal law to have a negative test for Equine Infections Anemia (EIA). This is commonly known as a Coggins test. In fact, any horse that leaves its premise for any reason is required to have an EIA test. Most shows, rodeos, events, etc require a test that was done within the last twelve months. Some show facilities may require that the EIA test be done within the last six months. This test has to be run by a licensed veterinarian. Horses that test positive for EIA are rare; however, if a horse tests positive, regulatory authorities will contact the owner concerning the future of the horse. Vaccinations are the next big concern. Remember that ALL horses, regardless of their intended purpose, need to be vaccinated for tetanus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, Western Equine Encephalitis, and West Nile virus. Spring is a particularly good time to vaccinate for Eastern Equine Encephalitis, Western Equine Encepahalitis, and West Nile as they are all viruses that are transmitted by mosquitos. Vaccinating in the spring will ensure that the horse’s immunity to those diseases is strongest during peak mosquito season. The American Association of Equine Practitioners also includes Rabies on the list of mandatory vaccines. Additionally, if the horse lives in (or travels to) the western half of the United States (Texas and east), Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis is another virus that should be included on the mandatory list of vaccines. Horses that travel and have exposure to other horses also need to be vaccinated for influenza and rhinopneumonitis (Equine Herpes Virus). Other vaccines to consider are Strangles and Potomac Horse Fever. A local veterinarian can help

owners decide if their horses are candidates for the list of optional vaccines. It is also important to remember that horses that are being vaccinated for the first time will need a booster vaccination three to four weeks after the initial shot. Many veterinarians will recommend quarterly boosters for influenza and rhinopeumonitis to horses that are on an intensive show schedule. Pregnant mares need to be vaccinated against rhinopenumonitis (Equine Herpes Virus) at 5, 7, and 9 months of gestation. Also, pregnant mare owners are encouraged to schedule their mare’s vaccines at 30-45 days before birth to ensure that the mare makes healthy colostrum to pass on to the foal at birth. Thankfully, most equine vaccines are offered with protection for several diseases in one injection cutting down on the number of injections a horse may require.

The final issue to consider is deworming. Current recommendations for equine deworming center on deworming horses based on their fecal egg count shedding. Veterinarians can help owners determine if their horse is a low, moderate, or high shedder and how often the horse needs to be dewormed. In the absence of knowing the horse’s specific fecal egg count, a good rule of thumb is to deworm the horse once every three months. Deworming horses with a dewormer that controls tapeworms is recommended in the spring and the fall. Praziquantel needs to be included in the dewormer to offer effective tapeworm control. Basic deworming is sufficient the other two times of the year. Alliance Animal Care offers a complete line of equine products for all your customers’ needs. Alliance Animal Care offers three equine vaccine lines to choose from: Merck’s Prestige line, Zoetis’ Innovator line, and Boehringer Ingleheim’s Equiject line. Additionally, Alliance Animal Care carries a wide variety of equine dewormers that will fit the various equine deworming needs. Your BWI salesperson can help you decide which products are right for your store and your customers.
