the Belgische Warmbloed Paard | BWP
The BWP – Belgian Warmblood Paard – was ranked #1 in the WBFSH for 2021 moving up from #3 in 2020. Not only claiming the leading Show Jumping Registry in the world but BWP also had top ranked show jumpers #1 H&M Indiana (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Animo’s Halo) #2 King Edward (Edward x Feo de Lauzelle) #6 Killer Queen VDM (Eldorado vd Zoeshoek x For Pleasure) #17 Hello Jefferson (Cooper vd Heffinck x Irco Mena) and #18 Hester aka Fruehling vd Abrije (Wandor vd Mispelaere x Palestro vd Begijnakker).
Cornet Obolensky (ex Windows vh Costerveld),Thunder v/d Zuuthoeve, Parco, Vigo d’Arsouilles, Winningmood, London (ex Carembar de Muze), Emerald Van’t Ruytershof, Flora de Mariposa, Dream of India Greenfield, First Class van Eeckelghen, Elky vh Indihof, Cortes C, Halifax vh Kluizebos, Gancia de Muze, Eldorado vh Vijverhof , Eldorado vd Zeshoek, Gazelle ter Elzen, Bull Run’s Faustino de Tili, Garfield de Tiji Des Templiers, Igor, H&M Indiana and Hester. These outstanding successes are not only taking place in the jumper ring, but in the dressage arena, on the cross-country course and in the hunter ring as well.
Many world-class North American riders have discovered the merits of the Belgian Warmblood and have been winning numerous National Championships and International events including Olympic Games with their BWP horses.
The Belgian Warmblood horse is the product of decades of selective skillful mixture of the best European bloodlines. It began with the breeding of Thoroughbreds, Anglo-Arabs and Europe’s finest Warmbloods with light agricultural horses. Today, the bloodlines of the BWP are among the best in the world bringing in only the top performing bloodlines into the breeding stock. The studbook was born from”Landelijke Ruiterij” which means the rural cavalry founded back in 1937 by the Canon De Mey. At the time already, our predecessors were convinced of the necessity to create and breed a sport’s horse for the rural riders. In 1955 the studbook was created; its name was vzw Fokvereninging van het Landbourijpaard (National Breeding Association of the Saddle Horse). The name of Landbourijpaard disappeared and was replaced by Belgische Warmbloed Paard (Belgian Warmblood Horse) and is known worldwide as BWP.
The BWP moto is “Bred to Perform” and the BWP Logo with the horse heads pointing to the North, South, East and West represents the breeding philosophy of combining top bloodlines from around the world to infuse into the breeding programs and successfully produce some of the best performing horses.
Long recognized as some of the best jumpers in the world, Belgian Warmbloods have a remarkable record of achievements both in North America and in Europe. Some of the most impressive horses in recent history like Darco, Nabab de Reve, Sapphire,
Sapphire (Darco x Hedjaz) who became the face of BWP with 2 Olympic Gold Medals and countless other wins, Cortes C (Randel Z x Darco) 2014 WEG individual bronze and 4 clear rounds, Via Volo, (Clinton x Heartbreaker) represented the US in the 2012 Olympics, Cylana (Skippy II x Darco) represented the US in the Olympics in 2012, Cella (Cento x Chin Chin) with numerous International GP wins, Dixon (Vigo x Olisco)– winner 2014 $1.5m Spruce Meadows Masters, Gazelle (Kashmir vh Shuttershof x Indoctro) winner of the 2016 America’s Gold Cup and 4th overall in WBFSH rankings for 2017 including a win 2019 at the CSIO5*
1.70m GP of Aachen and 2021 wins at Spruce Meadows and St. Tropez, Hester aka Fruehling vd Abrije (Wandor vd Mispelaere x Palestro vd Begijnakker) top placings including a win at Aachen in 2021 and Bull Run’s Faustino de Tili (Berlin x Darco) who has the most Grand Prix wins of any BWP bred to date.
Belgian Warmbloods are making a tremendous impact on the North American sport horse industry and worldwide. The Belgian Warmblood registry is one of the younger and smaller registries while only breeding a quarter of foals each year compared to competing registries. However, it consistently lists as one of the top 5 studbooks worldwide, including ranking #1 in the World for 2017 including the #1 horse, Halifax vh Kluizebos , and claiming 4 of the top 10 spots and 6 of the top 20 and in 2018 ranked #2 in the World. During 2019, the BWP remained a top 5 contender ranking #4 in the World and ranked #3 in the World for 2020.
The BWP horses have catapulted to the top of the sport horse world by winning or placing consistently at every major competition with both professional and amateur riders.
the Belgian Warmblood North American District |BWP/NAD
The Belgian Warmblood Association North American District, was established in 1987 as a non-profit organization. It was formed by a group of breeders and owners dedicated to the recognition, promotion, breeding and preservation of the Belgian Warmblood in North America. BWP/NAD is a fully recognized district of Belgium, BWP/ BE and serves as the sole administrating office for promotion and breeding practices in North America. BWP/NAD is a member of the WBFSH under BWP.
In 1988, the North American District hosted the first official Keuring Tour for the inspection of breeding stock in the United States by Belgian Judges. Since then, the annual event has grown to encompass more than two dozen Keuring inspection sites throughout the continental US and Canada each year. These Keurings serve to guarantee the continued quality and success of BWP horses bred in North America. Through dedication, hard work, and strong breeding practices, BWP/NAD has grown to be one of the strongest & most respected breed registries in North America.
Only top quality horses are admitted to the registry through the visual inspection and evaluation of stallions, mares and foals. Using the same stringent judging criteria from inspections in Belgium, the Belgian Jury looks for modern horses that have correct conformation for soundness, athletic potential for the Olympic disciplines, proven bloodlines for performance, good temperament for ride ability, and above all, the potential to pass these traits on to their offspring. As a result, this selectivity ensures that buyers, riders, and breeders of Belgian Warmbloods are getting the highest quality horse possible.
for breeding, judging criteria and registration. All of the NAD Stallions that are approved in North America are fully approved and recognized in Europe. This reciprocity sets the BWP/NAD apart from other breed registries.
The Registry began with 8 approved stallions and has since grown to over 60 National & International performance stallions. There are now and impressive 34 “Elite” Stallions, 58 “Elite” Mares, and 7 “Ambassadors” owned by BWP/NAD Breeders. In 2014, the BWP/NAD was awarded our first “Ambassador” with “Rebozo La Silla aka HH Rebozo” (Dollar de la Pierre x Ramiro) owned by BWP/NAD breeder Double H Farm. In 2015 our second “Ambassador” was awarded to “Imothep” (Indoctro x Calvados) owned by BWP/NAD breeder Vicky Castegren of Hyperion Stud, LLC and in 2018 we were pleased to have the Olympic Gold Medal winner “Big Star” (Quick Star x Nimmerdor) owned by Gary and Beverley Widdowson, awarded as our third “Ambassador”.
In 2019 we had a record number of Ambassadors presented including “ASB Conquistador aka Bush vd Heffinck” (Clinton x Heartbreaker) owned by Signe Ostby and Pomponio Ranch, “Bull Run’s Faustino” (Berlin Darco) owned by Bull Run Jumpers Six LLC, “Flexible” (Cruising x Safari), and “Ultimo vt Moude” (Capitol I x Major de la Cour) owned by Stal Hendrix. We had our first BWP/NAD Stallions debut into the top 100 WBFSH Sires list for 2018; #39 Ambassador Dulf vd Bisschop (Heartbreaker x Libero H) and #94 Ambassador Ultimo vt Moude (Capitol I x Major de la Cour). Ultimo’s offspring, Rouge de Ravel, reached #22 in the 2019 WBFSH standings. Bull Run’s Faustino de Tilli continues his over $1million in career winning prize money and over 50 FEI Grand Prix wins with his rider Kristen Vanderveen.
BWP/NAD fosters a unique relationship with our European counterpart in that all passports and papers are still generated by Belgium. The registry follows the rules and guidelines of Belgium
JAGUAR VAN PAEMEL
We asked Jaguar van Paemel’s owner, Geraldine Bidwell a few questions about the incredible stallion. More information regarding breeding to Jaguar can be found on page 37.
BWP/NAD: Can you tell us the story behind how you came to acquire Jaguar?
GB: The family that bred Jaguar wanted him to have a happy life. They trusted our family with him and offered him to us in a simple voicemail. They knew we were amazed by him and they thought it would work out, and is has!
BWP/NAD: Who are Jaguar’s most successful offspring to date?
GB: Otis Blue (pictured above) who was formerly under Kasper Hansen of Denmark, was recently purchased by [Voquest LLC/Shane Sweetname] is now being ridden by Shane Sweetnam here in the US. Already successful in the US under Sweetnam in the CSIO4*.
BWP/NAD: What type of mares cross best with Jaguar?
GB: We encourage any mares by Darco, Numero Uno, and Sir Caletto to come to Jaguar, and we will even give a steep discount to mares from those three in particuliar. But Jaguar adds power, leg length, and correctness to every foal that he has. It all depends on what you want to do with your foal. He’s been used to make jumpers, hunters, dressage horses and even a top polo pony - he was bred to a very small old mare who was a team owner’s favorite playing pony, with the hopes that Jagaur would add some size to her frame for a man who happens to be 6’2” in height. That colt is now a 4-year-old and it is being trained by one of the top polo players in the world!
We think that the Jaguar foals can do anything. They are very kind and careful by nature, but also powerfully flexible, highly adjustable and brave when they know their job. Someday we are hoping for mares to ask to book to him by Orbetello, and Jac’Potes as well.
BWP/NAD: What is Jaguar like to have in your barn?
GB: He is a love, He has open windows and no bars over his stall door. He lives in the same barn at night next to two of his son and his beautiful dapple grey daughter.
He is very vocal when he comes into a new place, much like Tarzan was when he made the call to the jungle! But as soon as he settles in, he is very quiet and observant of everything going on around him. He’s a keen watcher of everything here. Very well behaved in the ring when you have to ride him past other horses. He’s the kind of horse you never need to
use spurs on, with a beautifully sensitive mouth. I would not say that he is “spooky” but he is such an extremely “awake” type of horse — in fact, we’ve never seen him sleep laying down! He’s all about watching over his herd here, loves to be ridden, and never pins his ears about anything - yet I would not say he is the kind of horse that a beginner should take a trail ride on. When he is not sure about something, you really do have to stop the action and show it to him - because if he thinks that whatever it is might hurt you, well, you could end up needing to call Elon Musk to help bring you both back to earth. Jaguar has an amazingly powerful ability to concentrate on things. He is very easy to collect and haul around and he loves being groomed. He also has a marvelous sense of humor and likes to lick our dogs like they are his puppies. He could kill any of us with one quick swat, but what I know about him is that he really just thinks he is meant to protect us all in life. And so that’s what we try to do for him. I believe that is why they sent him here, too.
BWP/NAD: Looking into the future, do you have any goals or milestones you wish to attain with Jaguar as a breeding stallion?
GB: What makes me the happiest is seeing somebody else’s joy with the whole process. If they really love their mare, and I sense they are going to do their very best to help that mare deliver and raise their Jaguar foal, then the dream adds to my life. At 63-years-old, I am getting a bit old to ride well, and this opportunity that I have to get to feel like the American Godmother of all the beautiful Jaguar babies is fantastic! The wonderful Van Paemel breeding family did send him here, and they are still breeding Jaguar babies in Belgium. They take the same pride with all the goodness he brings. Some people want to have a Jaguar foal, who have little experience raising horses. And to these people, I say “learning how to do something new is the American way - it’s nothing to be ashamed of! I ask for help anytime I have a question and I keep learning and refining my love of the horse as I go. It’s such a privilege to see them here everyday . And if you don’t have a field or a barn yet, then find somebody who does to help you. Find the right farrier, the devoted vet, the experienced trainer, the good and gentle groom who loves the horse as much as you do. There is nothing better than raising your own horse. And horses love to be with other horses. So find those too and team up with them. Go to your registry for resources, trust your instincts and take time to enjoy the journey. To me, THAT is what it is all about. There are many milestones along the way, and as long as you can afford to do what you wish with your horse - then nothing can stop your dream, and your Jaguar will end up taking care of you oneday - putting those huge wings on your back and showing you what he knows is possible!

KALINKA VAN’T ZORGVLIET
POMPONIO RANCH’S POWERHOUSE MARE AT THE TOP
In 2023, Kalinka van’t Zorgvliet finished at the very top of the USEF Grand Prix rankings. She earned over half a million in prize money last year with several wins and finishes in 5* competitions. BWP/NAD Director, Chris Sallee, had a conversation with Karl Cook about this superstar mare and how their partnership has grown and where it is going. Candid photos by Alden Corrigan.
CS: Kalinka is 14 this year. You bought her and started competing her as a 9yo? What attracted you to her?
KC: We got her February of her 9YO year (2019). When I tried her, she was hot and would run at the fences and land 5m past the jump. I thought if I could calm her down a bit, she would be a really good 1.45m speed horse. She was not purchased as a 1.60m candidate. No one thought she would end up with all the success she’s had at the highest level.
CS: She’s not a typical Thunder mare which seem to be Darco like in characteristics. She seems to take on the characteristics of her dam line, the Flipper x Heartbreaker.
KC: Kalinka has a lot of fire and drive. She’s very careful. She wants to be careful, naturally. Nothing phases her. I jumped her over the water one time (she hadn’t jumped water for four years) and she’s been great. She’s not afraid of anything. She’s had very few rails competing in the big classes. She didn’t have a single rail in 5 or 6 of the 5* classes.
CS: What qualities do you look for in a horse?
KC: With any horse, I want a great brain (and to be sound). Kalinka has a great mind. She doesn’t have the ideal ‘topline’ for a jumper, her withers are lower than one would find ideal relative to her croup and she doesn’t always jump in the most perfect form. But I’d rather have a horse that doesn’t jump in a perfect form all the time because they have room to improve with experience. Some
horses that do jump in what would be considered ‘perfect’ form all the time, from a young age, sometimes don’t have that room to improve. One of my first big horses, Uno de Laubry, did not have a good canter but he had a really good mind. That’s most important to me.
CS: She stepped up to the 1.60m in 2022 and had quite a bit of success. When you got her did you think she’d reach the 1.60m level successfully?
KC: Honestly, no one thought she was going to be more then a good 1.45 speed horse. She was not purchased as a 1.60m horse candidate. In hindsight, she had a lot of drive and it all makes sense now. She’s careful and brave. While she may not have the perfect jump all the time, she wants to be clear. With Kalinka, if we have a fault, its because of me not her. I prefer that because its easier to fix me then the horse. Her first 3* was early 2022 and she won that class. She ended 2022 with two more wins in 5* classes.
CS: Your mother, Signe Ostby, has been breeding and registering horses with the BWP/NAD for around 15 years now. I see Goldfee has only had one offspring, Kalinka. Do you know if they’re going to get more embryos or breed Goldfee? Goldfee’s dam, BWP mare Contesse vt Zorgvliet, produced Kevin Staut’s Olympic mount, BWP stallion For Joy vt Zorgvliet by For Pleasure.
KC: Yes, we are actually going to be involved with some future
THUNDER VD ZUUTHOEVE GOLDFEE VT ZORGVLIETbreeding of Goldfee. I have full siblings to my good horse, Calliou, they’re young and we all know full siblings can be very different. But we will see.
CS: You seem to have a lot of success with the mares. Do you prefer mares? I know we’ve registered several out of at least 8-9 of your performance mares, many are our elite mares based on their performance with you.
KC: When I was starting out, I had 4 horses that I competed and all were stallions; Elite BWP stallion ‘Uno de Laubry ‘(Galoubet x Laudanum xx), BWP stallion ‘Cappacino’ (Heartbreaker x Darco) Elite BWP stallion ‘Jonkheer Z’ (Jetset D x Skippy II), BWP Ambassador ‘Bush vd Heffinck’ aka ASB Conquistador’ (Clinton x Heartbreaker). Now, of the 8 horses that I compete, 7 are bay mares with 1 gray gelding. I do think I can get a better emotional connection with mares, more so than stallions. Mares are more reactive (for me), I think.
CS: What are you looking forward to in 2024? Olympics?
KC: I luckily have 2 horses that we’re pointing towards the Olympics – Caracole and Kalinka. Most riders don’t even have one horse so I’m fortunate. I like to plan. I do everything with a plan. Kalinka’s 14 now and she’s only been in 3 classes since the end of September 2023 and one was the $1 million that she won.
CS: Good luck for the rest of 2024 and we’ll be rooting for you all!

Stallions | licensing and approval
tallions registered in BWP recognized European Warmblood foalbooks are eligible for inspection by the BWP. They must be three years old or older, by approved Stallions from a BWP recognized European Warmblood association, and out of main studbook dams. The stallion’s sire and dam do not have to be of the same “breed”, but must be of proven competition bloodlines. Prior to being presented, the pedigree must be sent to the BWP/NAD Studbook Committee and Belgium for approval of bloodlines. The pedigree must contain four full generations.
Stallions must also undergo a veterinary examination. The veterinary examination is to include a semen analysis, EVA test, Endoscopic Laryngeal exam and radiographs of the fore feet (regular and navicular series), fore fetlocks, carpal joints, rear fetlocks, hocks and stifles. This examination must show the stallion to be free of heritable diseases (example OCD, navicular, etc.). Report of findings and radiographs must be submitted to the BWP/ NAD Studbook Committee before the stallion is permitted to be presented for approval. At the inspection, the stallion is shown in hand on the triangle at a walk and trot.
The ideal size for a stallion is 165 to 175 cm (see height conversion chart). If the quality of the gaits and conformation are sufficient, the stallions will be asked to free jump and/or be ridden undersaddle depending on the age of the stallion. Stallions 3 yrs, will be asked to free jump only. Stallions 4 yrs will be asked to free jump and be ridden undersaddle. Stallions 5 yrs and older will be asked to be ridden and jumped under saddle.
Free jumping for stallions that have been selected for further evaluation consists of three fences, the first of which is a cavaletti. The distance between the first and second fence is approximately 6.4 - 6.5 meters and between the second and third fence is 7.0 - 7.2 meters. The stallion starts with three trial jumps whereby the last fence is raised to 70 cm, 90 cm and a 90 cm oxer consecutively. Afterwards the oxer is elevated to 1.10 meters and is jumped four times or at the discretion of the Belgian jury. The stallion is evaluated on jumping technique, willingness and ability.
Provisional approval is given to stallions meeting the stringent requirements of the BWP that have yet to complete performance requirements. Provisional approval is maintained for a period of four years or until the stallion completes performance
requirements set by the BWP/NAD and approved by the BWP. The four year time period begins January 1st post provisional approval. The age level that the stallion is expected to compete in coincides with the actual birth date of the stallion.

BIO AND PERFORMANCE RECORD: Adonis is a rare direct son of Darco standing here in the U.S. for fresh semen for breeders. Originally approved for breeding in Belgium as a 3yo, he was exported to the States and competed successfully up to Grand Prix level. His strong damline has produced several top horses including BWP/NAD Elite GP mare, E’Special P.S. (Berlin).
Adonis’ sire, Darco, was the leading sire on the World Breeding Federation for Showjumping for unprecedented 5 consecutive years. Partnered with Ludo Philippaerts since the age of 5, highlights of the duo’s success included 7th place at the Barcelona Olympics, 2nd at Spruce Meadows/Calgary, 6th in the World Equestrian Games and Stockholm, and countless wins and placings at World Cup and international Grand Prixs. As a competitor, Darco displayed a lot of power and stamina and was described by his rider as an extremely honest, intelligent and careful partner with a solid character. As a sire, Darco reliably passes on these characteristics to his progeny.

Ranked at the top of the World Breeding Federation’s Jumping Sire list in 2007, 2008 and again in 2009, many of Darco’s offspring have become household names by virtue of their success in the ring: Parco, Sapphire, King Darco, Otterongo, Nonstop, and recent BWP Ambassador Winningmood
His dam sire, Voltaire, is the result of crossing two outstanding bloodlines: Furioso II and Gotthard. Furioso II produced 200 state premium mares and at least 70 approved stallions of which several are standing at stud in other continents. One can easily say that Furioso II has influenced the breeding industry worldwide. As an 8 year old Voltaire jumped 1.50 m. courses with a great deal of success. He showed his strength in international jumping in 1988 in Calgary, Stockholm, Lanaken, Helsinki, Wiesbaden and Wembley and in 1989 he brought his showjumping career to a successful ending by winning the Grand Prix of Berlin with Jos Lansink and 2nd in the Grand Prix of Leeuwarden.
Voltaire was the sire with the most offspring at the Olympic Games of Atlanta in 1996. Voltaire has over 50 approved sons.

The British rider discovered the talented bay as a youngster in the Netherlands and trained him through Grand Prix level. He has been quoted to admit that, “Big Star is the perfect horse and one of the best he’s ever ridden.” The Quick Star son has more than lived up to his name and developed into a top show jumper in a league of his own. In 2012, Big Star proved his excellence at all the top show jumping events in the World. At the Olympic Games in London, Big Star had only one rail down the final day of competition and was awarded 5th place individually, and because of his numerous clear rounds early in the week, was the anchor for Great Britain to secure the Team Gold. His success at the Grand Prix of Aachen earned him the Preis Von Eurpoa or The Prize of Europe. Other major successes include wins at the Grand Prix in Antwerp, Global Champions Tour in Hamburg, Grand Prix in Rome, and numerous Grand Prix wins in Wellington, Florida. 2014, Big Star finished 3rd in the Global Champions tour in Cascais, Estoril and 4th at the CSI4* Grand Prix in Fontainebleau. Big Star’s most impressive accomplishment is winning Great Britian, the Individual Gold Medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics with his accomplished equestrian, Nick Skelton.
The combination of Big Star’s select and well thought out bloodlines has helped make Big Star the exceptional competitor he is today. There is no doubt when paired with the proper mare, Big Star’s qualities will shine through and produce excellent offspring. Although Nick Skelton and Big Star have focused primarily on his show career, there are several young offspring on the ground. Among his small collection of offspring is his 2009 son Estrello (ds. Heartbreaker x Pilot) who was selected for the KWPN performance test in 2011. His first U.S. foal crop was born in 2015 at Spy Coast Farm. Spy Coast Farm is honored to have been granted the exclusive opportunity to continue offering this top stallion to American and Canadian breeders.

BIO AND PERFORMANCE RECORD: Coolio is an exciting young stallion by the famous Casall. His mother line is equally exciting with Clarimo and Corrado. Bred in Germany and imported into Canada in 2021.
Casall needs little introduction. Under Rolf-Göran Bengtsson, Casall was one of the highest-achieving horses on the international show jumping circuit. During the past years, he reached the top 25 at all major championships, the 2012 London Olympics, the 2013 Herning Europeans, and the 2014 Caen World Equestrian Games.
Coolio is modern and sporty with big elastic movement and scope to his jump. He received excellent scores in his 2023 BWP licensing for type, canter, and jump.
He will focus on sport in the 2024 season. We are looking forward to all that is to come for this promising young stallion.

BIO AND PERFORMANCE RECORD: Coriandolo di Ribano is the epitome of a modern day show jumper. Light on his feet, well balanced, a careful jumper with a nice amount of blood, and endless scope. He is a sensitive horse, but with a great brain.
Coriandolo di Ribano is an elite competitor that has garnered top placings all over the world throughout his sport career. Coriandolo is by the great Holsteiner stallion Cassini II, the younger full brother of Cassini I. Cassini II was injured as a young horse and was not able to compete, but became a sought after breeding sire through his talented offspring. Coriandolo’s dam sire Baldini I, competed successfully up to intermediate level and consistently produced athletic offspring that jumped up to 1.60m. His great dam sire, Landgraf I, needs no introduction and is considered one of the "greats" of Holsteiner breeding.
Bred by Giovanni Colonna of Italy, Coriandolo di Ribano was trained by Argentinian Mariano Pablo Ossa, where they successfully competed in young jumper classes. At the age of 7, Coriandolo entered the Grand Prix ring with Italy’s Chiara Arrighetti where they made a big impression with his endless scope and talent. Not long after his Grand Prix debut, Coriandolo di Ribano was imported to the U.S. by Tequestrian Farms and has been partnered with owner/rider Lauren Tisbo since 2016. Together they have competed at the highest level in numerous top placings CSI4* and CSI5* competitions in Wellington, Tryon, Lexington, and Bromont Canada including; 1st CSI5* 2016 Saugerties (USA) (1.60m); 2nd CSI3*-W 2018 Wellington, Deeridge Farm (USA) (1.60m); 2nd CSI4*-W 2017 Lexington, Horse Park KY (USA) (1.60m); 3rd CSI5* 2016 Tryon NC (USA) (1.60m); 3rd CSI4*-W 2016 New York - North Salem (USA) (1.60m); 7th CSI4* 2016 Upperville (USA) (1.60m); 8th CSI3*- W 2016 Wellington, Deeridge Farm (USA) (1.60m); 10th CSI5* 2018 Wellington (USA) (1.60m); 10th CSI4*- W 2016 Lexington, Horse Park KY (USA) (1.60m); 3rd CSI3*-W 2018 Ocala (USA) (1.50m); 6th CSI3* 2016 Wellington (USA) (1.50m); 8th CSI5* 2018 Wellington (USA) (1.50m); 8th CSI3*-W 2016 Bromont (CAN) (1.50m)

BIO AND PERFORMANCE RECORD: In 2023 Jac’Potes produced the highest scoring filly with BWP/NAD. Retiring from sport at the age of 18 after a career up to 1.60m, Jac’Potes is a welcome addition for North American breeders. Jac’Potes brings to the table proven performance, proven bloodlines, and proven offspring. Sire, Caretino, was one of the top stallions in Holstein, having produced greats such as Casall and Cristallo. Jac’Potes dam sire, Corrado I, is the sire of Clinton and gold medal WEG competitor Corradina. Also on the dam side is Lord, sire of countless top competitors including World Championships and Olympics. Jac’Potes dam, Harada, produced 2 offspring that competed to 1.60m (Jac’Potes and Ubris), 1.45m (Riga I) and 1.30m (Cisco, approved stallion).
In performance, Jac’potes is unmatched. In France, he was described as “Very beautiful, very good gallop, very respectful, big means and a golden character.” He was one of the top young horses in France, including 3rd in the 5-year-old championship at the CIR du Lion d’Angers. He then went on to be partnered with Jan Tops (olympic gold medal rider) and Doda de Miranda (Olympic medalist). He claimed top placings, up to CSI5* level, at events such as Nations Cups, CSIO Lisbon, Stephex Masters, CSI Maubeuge, and Wellington FL. As a testament to his exceptional temperament, towards the end of his career he has been successful in the amateur jumpers and even the hunters!
Jac’Potes is proving to be not only exceptional in the show ring, but also in the breeding shed. With limited breeding prior to his import, he has produced several offspring with competition records of 1.35m-1.60m. Most notably Tescari’jac, with a record to 1.60m. Of the 13 offspring listed on hippomundo, all of them have a record of at least 1.20m, including 5 at 1.40m-1.45m and 5 1.30m-1.35m. Additionally, Jac’Potes has also produced an approved stallion; Tostaky de la Loue.

BIO AND PERFORMANCE RECORD: Jaguar Van Paemel is by Cicero Z Van Paemel , out of the Hanoverian mare Sissi by Sandro. Jaguar competed in European FEI up to 1.50 with Belgium’s Dirk Demeersman, and then with France’s Aldrick Cheronnet to 1.60. Jaguar was purchased directly from his breeders , Luc Eeckhoudt and Karin Verdeyen. In March of 2019, he was brought to California as a 10-year-old stallion. He was born Belgian Warmblood, became an approved Zangershiede stal-lion, and has recently been given additional approvals for AHS, ARS, HV, RV, BWP/NAD, NWP/BE and NAS.
Jaguar competed in more than 100 FEI classes in Europe and was collected there as an 8-year-old stallion. His semen is still sold frozen in Europe through Stal Morette. He has more than 100 registered foals now, including several of his colts as licensed stallions. Of these, more than 25 of his early offspring have already proven themselves capable in the show ring, jumping above the 1.35 levels , with several already going clean at 1.55.
He is offered fresh and frozen in America, and his semen is known to have super high motility. He has been able to get all three of the 21-year-old maiden mares that

His movement is elegant, and he jumps almost every fence with a perfect bascule. A full detail of his current progeny ( as well as all the past ancestors in his pedigree) is available to review on www.Jaguar.horse. One colt and one filly from his first American born foals have already become AHS gold medal winners. There is a top scoring Westfalen colt, as well as at several elite 2022 BWP/NAD foals as well. BIO AND PERFORMANCE RECORD: Jonsaunier Dwerse Hagen is a highend stallion with a passion for jumping. At a young age, he proved himself as one of the top competitors of his generation, winning the PAVO Stallion Festival Final being only 5 years old, as well as the Belgian Young Horse Final at 6. He got his first 1m40 ranking at 7 and participated in the World Championship in Lanaken. At 8, he jumped clear rounds at several 1m60 Grand Prix, thus qualifying for the Sire Of The World competition in Lanaken.
Jonsaunier’s lineage is equally impressive. He was sired by Vertigo Saint Benoit, a brilliant stallion that suffered an unfortunate career-ending injury young, but emerged as an excellent genitor. His grand father, Ogano Sitte, is considered as one of the best stallions in the world, passing scope and excellent technique to his foals. His dam, Whitney DH, has won several 1m60 Grand Prix herself.
Imported in 2018 to the US, Jonsaunier was quick to adapt to his new environment and is very well balanced mentally. His physical abilities are quite extraordinary, and his behavior is exemplary for a young stallion. Ridden by an amateur, he immediately showed good results in the 1m40 classes and finished 3rd in the Welcome Stake in Sonoma 1.40m. In addition to all that, his coat sports unique coloring and marking, which makes him a truly unforgettable sire. We are very lucky to have this prodigious stallion in our barn.

This Top’s Zoë also produced three international Grand Prix horses, including Eddieni (by Johnson), which scored well above 70 percent with multiple riders. Further tracing the sire line is Darco, who was voted Best Sire in the World four years in a row, and produced over 3,000 foals in his breeding career. Darco’s showjumping career included the Olympic Games, World Equestrian Games and countless World Cups and international events with rider Ludo Philippaerts. Nimmerdor is also on Orbetello’s sire line. He is known as the KWPN Sire of the Century for his showjumping prowess as well as his many offspring who made their marks in both the jumping and dressage arenas.
Orbetello’s damline is no less impressive. He is out of the Holsteiner mare Landkind who descends from Landgraf I by the legendary Ladykiller xx. Ladykiller is known as the most influential Thoroughbred stallion in the history of German sporthorse/showjumping breeding and was the founder of the Holsteiner L-line. He sired 35 licensed sons including the famous Holsteiners Landgraf and Lord. Landgraf I is symbolized as the modern Holsteiner Sport Horse and performance sire. Landkind’s damline traces to Cor de la Bryere the Selle Francais stallion known as the “Reserve Stallion of the Century,” second only to Landgraf I. He was especially influential as a sire with 85 approved sons and 86 SPS mares. His offspring, especially when crossed the Hosteiner, Hanoverian and Oldenburg breeds, are a who’s who of showjumping success.

BIO AND PERFORMANCE RECORD: Phil has had a tremendous start to his career here in North America under the guidance of Grand Prix rider, David, Arcand. Together they have posted faultless rounds at 1.40-145m including a win in the 1.45m Classique Estivale II and several 1.40m clears during WEF 2023.
Phil is by the legendary BWP Ambassador Stallion, Cornet Obolensky, who under Marco Kutscher, had an illustrious show jumping career including; 1st CSIO5* 2012 Rotterdam (NED) (1.60m); 1st CSIO5* 2008 Barcelona (ESP) (1.60m); 2nd CSIO5* 2012 Aachen (GER) (1.60m); 2nd CSI5*-W 2009 Bordeaux (FRA) (1.60m); 4th CSI5* GCT 2012 Valkenswaard (NED) (1.60m). As a sire, Cornet Obolensky has produced some top competitors including Clooney (Ferragamo), Comme il Faut (Ramiro), Cornado NRW (Acobat) and Balou du Reventon.
Cornet Obolensky was from Clinton’s first crop of foals. His dam, Rabanna van Costersveld was an advanced showjumper in Britain, and her sire Heartbreaker is one of the most successful sons of Nimmerdor. Rabanna van Costersveld is the half-sister to the BWP stallion, Vivaldo van Costerfeld (by Clinton) who sold for €150,000 in the Fences auctions, and competed successfully with Roger Yves Bost winning 1.45 classes at Stuttgart and Dublin, 1.50 classes at Bordeaux, Paris and Goteborg, and a Grand Prix at Arezzo in the 2013 season. The dam of Rabanna and Vivaldo, Holivea van Costersveld was herself an advanced showjumper and also produced the international competitor, Querido (by Feinschnitt I).
Phil comes from a very strong 1.45m-1.50m producing damline and we’re excited to see what this combination continues to produce in sport for the future.

BIO AND PERFORMANCE RECORD: Son et Lumiere OBF (showing under the name Roark OBF), is a beautiful young stallion by Emerald van’t Ruytershof, out of Evita OBF (by Heartbreaker). He has a modern build and moves with a balanced, ground covering stride. He is easy to handle both on and off the ground due to his intelligence and easygoing nature. Roark was presented to Belgian Warmblood in 2021, where he achieved great scores from Judge Boudewijn Shepers. As a result of his many clear rounds in the Alberta and California show circuits, he officially earned his full approval with Belgian Warmblood in spring 2023. As a five year old, he has impressed us with his consistency of performance with every challenge thrown his way. He is currently competing in the six year old division (1.20-1.25m) with rider Katie Laurie.

His dam sire, Heartbreaker, was simply one of the greatest jumping sires, ever. Heartbreaker was originally approved by the BWP studbook and in 2007 Heartbreaker was declared a ‘Belgian Ambassador’ and not surprisingly given the success of his offspring.
His dam, Evita OBF (Heartbreaker) has contributed much through her offspring. Her firstfoal, Havana OBF (Escudo I) was the highest scoring mare on the BWP-NA tour in 2010 and went on to compete to 1.35m. Evita is also the dam of Klinton OBF (Clinton), who was a BWP approved stallion and competed to 1.40m. Evita’s daughter Carmen OBF (Clinton) produced another BWP approved stallion Marcus OBF, who has gone on to successfully compete at FEI 5* shows at the 1.50m level.

He was 5th in the CSI4* 2010 - Grand Prix 2010 Comporta (POR) (1.60m); 5th CSI3* 2009 - Grand Prix 2009 Lamprechtshausen (AUT) (1.50m); 6th CSI3* 2010 - Grand Prix 2010 Vimeiro (POR) (1.50m); 8th CSI3* 2009 - Grand Prix 2009 Wiener Neustadt (AUT) (1.50m); 3rd CSI2* 2014 Wiener Neustadt (AUT) (1.45m); 3rd CSI2* 2014 Villach Treffen (AUT) (1.45m). He had several top placings in Europe during 2016 & 2017.
Tamerino’s dam, Bianca III, also produced a successful 1.60m horse, Stuart, by Calando I. His sire, Voltaire, is the result of crossing two outstanding bloodlines: Furioso II and Gotthard. Furioso II produced 200 state premium mares and at least 70 approved stallions of which several are standing at stud in other continents. One can easily say that Furioso II has influenced the breeding industry worldwide. The full brother of Furioso II is the French stallion Mexico. His son Le Mexico is a familiar name in Dutch breeding and frequently appears in the pedigrees of successful showjumpers.
Moreover the world famous Voltaire held top spots for several years in the World Breeding Ranking of Showjumping Sires. Voltaire has over 50 approved sons. Many of his offspring jump at Grand Prix level, i.e. Finesse, Altaire, Kahlua, Play it Again, Helios, Electro, Kannan, Especial etc. Voltaire was also awarded Hunter sire of the Year in the U.S. several years and a top 10 placing Hunter sire 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012.

Ut Majeur de Brecey |
BIO AND PERFORMANCE RECORD: Ut Majeur de Brecey 2008 Bay Selle Francais Stallion (Diamant de Semilly x Quouglof Rouge x Starter) Ut Majeur is a 17.1 hand Selle Francais Stallion who successfully competed with his former owner, Juan Pablo Gnecco at 1.60M and is now competing with his new owner Spruce Meadows Ltd. Ut Majeur started at the age of 5 for the first time in the PAVO Stallion Competition and showed himself from the beginning as a very careful and intelligent horse with a large gallop that showed more and more blood and power towards the end, with the jump-off as the highlight. Ut Majeur de Brecey is a well-developed stallion with presence, blood and beautiful proportions. He has a correct foundation with enough length, with a well-muscled topline. He has a smooth walk. He trots with impulsion, flexibility and with good use of the hind leg. Under the saddle, he has a lot of enthusiasm and gives a great feeling. His walk and trot are big. His canter is big and strong. Ut Majeur de Brecey is a powerful stallion from a good performance line who can give a lot of frame, size and scope. He is a son of the renowned Diamant de Semilly; whoy shone with Eric Levallois in many GP competitions. An exceptional showjumper himself, DIAMANT DE SEMILLY passes on with an impressive regularity his strong back, scope, great balance, wonderful canter, suppleness, power, uncommon ease and super willingness, which make him a dream stallion. Diamant de Semilly comes from the best Selle Français damline, the same as the well known ALME ! Diamant is a top sire for jumpers and eventing, and has stood in the Top of the WBFSH Standings as a sire of Jumpers since 2012. Ut Majeur’s dam by Quouglof Rouge has also produced several successful sport offspring; Nouba de Brecey (1.40), Olympe de Brecey (1.50), Totem de Brecey (CCI2*), Shamrock de Brecey (1.35 & Successful Ch/ Ad. Horse), Cash de Brecey (CSI2*, 1.20), Rapsodie de Brecey (1.30) and Quasa de Brecey (by Rosire). Ut Majeur comes from a solid SF line with top breeder Diamant de Semilly as father, but it is just as important that his grandmother is a daughter of Starter and then you immediately know where his blood and mentality comes from. This son of Rantzau xx is also one of the dominating factors in the dam line of WBFSH stallion No. 1: Baloubet de Rouet. From Ut Majeur’s direct dam line come a number of very talented international show jumpers such as - Idole Landaise - 1.40 m - Kellandaise - 1.50 m - Olivetti Landaise - 1.50 m - Pepito Landaise - 1.50 m - Espoir Z - 1.50 m - Milor Landaise - 1.60 m - Jipsy Landaise - 1.60 m

ares approved for breeding by the BWP are entered into one of two studbooks. The Main Studbook is for select registered mares of a recognized sport horse breed, including, but not limited to most other Europe Studbooks recognized by the WBFSH, Thoroughbreds and Arabs. The auxiliary studbook is for other select mares of unverifiable pedigree that are acceptable and pass inspection by the Belgian jury. All mares must be over 15.1 hands to be eligible for inspection and inclusion into either book.
In May of 2010, the BWP/NAD Board of Directors recommended and voted in favor of the following revised guidelines for Auxiliary Book mare candidates:
Mares without papers must have proof of either performance through a national federation i.e., USEF, USDF, FEI and/or Thoroughbred tattoo or recognized brand.
DNA must be obtained and evaluated at UC Davis for markers to be evaluated for Quarter Horse and Draft blood, which will exclude candidates from the Auxiliary Mare book. DNA markers can also be evaluated for specific bloodlines to allow mares entry into the Main Mare book. If a mare has a registered name, owners may be able to research through FEI or other means to match to dam and sire. Owners can appeal to BWP to accept researched parentage and DNA information for acceptance into Main Mare book.
Mares |inspection & registration
BWP ELITE MARE PROGRAM
The Elite mare program was adopted by the NAD and implemented in 1999. To qualify for the Elite program and to obtain Elite status for a mare, the mare must receive a conformation and exterior “E” Label at her inspection, a veterinary “G” Label and a performance “P” Label. Mares must also have produced at least one offspring.
For the “E” Label, the mare must be presented to the Belgian jury at a keuring inspection and must be recommended for the E-Label by receiving a score of 75 or higher. If the mare is older the 10 years of age at the time of her BWP mare inspection for breeding and receives a score of 75 or higher, she may use her inspection score towards her E-Label for her Elite mare Status once she has accomplished her performance, submitted sufficient radiographs and veterinary requirements and had at least one foal.
For the veterinary “G” Label, the mare must submit to a thorough veterinary exam that includes a physical exam, breeding soundness exam and radiographs. The radiographs needed are the fore feet, hocks and stifles. The exam findings must be sent to the BWP/NAD Studbook Committee for evaluation. If the physical exam, breeding exam and radiographs are normal the G-Label is awarded.
Mares are evaluated on their movement, elasticity, conformation, and general impression. They are judged on the triangle at the walk and trot.
Mares may be presented while in foal or after foaling. It is advisable, but not required, that mares be presented prior to breeding to an approved stallion. It is the mare owner’s responsibility to determine the approval status of any Belgian Warmblood stallion to which they choose to breed. Any mare producing consistently unacceptable foals may have her breeding status rescinded.
For the performance “P” Label, a mare must complete five (5) clear rounds at 1.40m. There must be proof of the performance either as reported by the USEF, USDF or signed reports from the individual show secretaries.
To achieve a P-Label in disciplines other then jumping, all performance results must be submitted to the Studbook Committee for consideration.
If all three labels are attained, the Elite status will be granted after the mare produces a BWP registered foal.

Foals | inspection & registration
To register a BWP foal, it must be sired by a BWP approved stallion and out of a dam that has been entered into either the main or the auxiliary studbook of BWP. With the advent of the European Union, it has recently become possible to register foals that are by outside approved stallions, and out of dams that have been entered into either the main or auxiliary studbook of BWP. These stallions must be approved for breeding by the BWP and from a BWP recognized Studbook. The stallion must be over 6 years old, and have already completed their performance requirements at the time of breeding. These requirements, DNA typing, and the payment of an additional registration fee will allow the resulting foals to be registered into one of the foal books of the BWP.
The owner of the foal must submit an application to the BWP/NAD to present the foal at a Keuring. The owner must be a member in good standing with the BWP/NAD and the dam and sire must meet the above requirements. Foals must be presented to and inspected by the Keuring jury in order to be registered and branded (contact Registrar to inquire if your foal is eligible to be registered without inspection). Foals should be presented in their birth year in order to receive the Belgian brand, however, under special circumstances they may be presented as yearlings or two-
year olds. Foals that score an 80 or above, out of a BWP approved mare, are given “Elite” predicate. Foals that score a 75-79, out of a BWP approved mare, are given “First Premium” predicate. Foals that score a 70-74, out of a BWP approved mare, are given “Premium” predicate.
The Belgian jury and BWP/NAD Studbook Committee may request veterinary reports from owners prior to registration. The Belgian jury and BWP/NAD have the right to with hold or deny breed registration of foals deemed unfit or inadequate for breeding until sufficient veterinary documentation is produced from a reputable veterinary teaching hospital with a diagnosis for any condition that the foal may possess that states that the foal’s condition is not the result of a hereditary genetic defect (i.e. condition caused by injury).
At three years of age (or older) fillies and prospective young stallions can be presented for inspection as breeding stock. At that time, fillies are entered into the same studbook as their dams. Four generations are required to move from the auxiliary studbook to the main studbook. Colts must meet the requirements described in the stallion section of the guidelines, and must be from the main foal book.
USEF LIFETIME RECORDING OF FOALS
In 2007, the BWP/NAD began recording all accepted foals with the United Stated Equestrian Federation. All foals will receive a USEF lifetime recording number, which makes the foals eligible for participation in any USEF recognized competition and Horse of the Year Programs.
The fee for this registration is incorporated as part of the Foal Inspection fee. The USEF recording certificates will be mailed directly to the owner of record by USEF. Horses registered as yearlings or two-year olds will not be eligible to receive this lifetime recording through the BWP/NAD registry.
BLOOD TYPING - DNA (Parentage Verification)
The Belgian registry require blood typing or DNA testing on all foals, mares and stallions. This testing will be done through

the BWP/NAD at the expense of the owner of said horse. Parentage verification is required if special arrangements have been made for the registration of yearlings, or for the registration of foals by outside stallions. All parentage verification is done at the expense of the owner and tested through UC Davis. DNA markers and reports are the sole property of BWP/NAD.
MICROCHIPPING OF FOALS
Beginning in 2017, all BWP/NAD Foals, Yearlings and 2YO’s must submit microchip documentation with registration. Microchips must be 15 digit codes (preferably beginning with the U.S. country code 840) ISO compliant 11784/11785 and implanted in the nuchal ligament.
NAMING BWP FOALS
All foals born within one calendar year are named with the same letter of the alphabet. The chart below indicates the letters corresponding to the correct years.
Once a foal is named the name cannot be changed on
the passport. This is also true for mares (ex. Thoroughbreds) who are registered with BWP. The name that is on the original Jockey Club papers will be the name with which the mare is registered with the BWP.

Hunters | BWP/NAD h-label
In 2009, the BWP/NAD registry launched a Hunter Label program to recognize and encourage the breeding and showing of Hunters within the BWP/NAD. This program was designed and implemented to meet the increased demand for Hunter Breeding Programs in North America.
The H-Label program is open to all BWP approved foals, mares, geldings and stallions. The divisions will be the same as what is currently used for BWP inspections, Fillies and Colts of the current year, Yearlings, 2 Yr olds, Mares 3yr-6yr, Mares 7yr+. Additional sections added; “Geldings and Stallions 3yr-6yr and Geldings and Stallions 7yr+” for the “H” Label only.
the conclusion of the BWP inspection, “H” Label participants will be scored based on Hunter conformation and Hunter movement criteria by a selected USEF Hunter Judge from the U.S. This score will be in addition to the BWP keuring score. Each participant will receive a BWP/NAD Certificate with the “H” Label stamp and score and be officially placed in the BWP/NAD Hunter Book. The Hunter Book will comprise of all “H” Label BWP horses, their pedigree and Hunter score.
Scoring for the H-Label is as follows: 70-79pts receives Bronze, 8089pts receives Silver, 90pts+ receives Gold. Participants must score a minimum of 70 pts to receive their “H” Label.
Participants first undergo their BWP inspection by the BWP Jury for approval and scores (if not previously inspected). At

he Belgian Riding Pony is a Belgian registry that was formed over 20 years ago using an interbreed of the New Forest Pony lines, Welsh and Connemara riding ponies from Holland and Germany as well as Thoroughbred mix. The Belgian breeders look for the best performing mares and stallions abroad to set up their own “stut” or breeding program.
There are two kinds of labels, Sport and Breeding labels. This pony can be one of two sizes. The “small” pony is meant as a “toy” pony with a fantastic character and able to compete with a very young rider. The “large” pony measures 1.47m and is what they consider the “sport” pony. The BRp is gifted with exemplary character and found in all branches of youth riding sport.
The BWP/NAD now inspects pony candidates that meet the above criteria to be placed in the BRp registry. Belgian and U.S. approved BRp Stallions as well as approved German Riding Pony Stallions in the US are approved for breeding to BRp approved mares.
BRp ponies approved in North America can be inspected and during the keuring tour and branded with the BRp brand. Only foals from approved BRp pony mares by BRp acceptable pony stallions will be allowed for BRp registration in North America. Currently there are 4,500 registered BRp in Belgium, 2,000 approved mares, 250 foals each year and 25 BRp stallions in the studbook.
For more information about the BRp, contact the BWP Studbook Committee or info@belgianwarmblood.com.

Appendix B | recording procedures
RECORDING BWP IMPORTED HORSES
If a BWP mare, stallion or gelding is imported it is necessary to record the horse with the BWP/NAD. If the mare is already approved for breeding it is not necessary to re-present the mare. If a stallion is approved for breeding in Belgium by the Belgian Stallion Selection, it is necessary to make sure that the horse is still in good standing, pay yearly BWP/NAD stallion dues, and to re-present the horse to maintain his BWP/NAD breeding license. Recording BWP horses is done by following the paper transfer procedures.
TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP
Older horses, some mares, and some stallions have the old style of BWP paperwork. These papers are white and green with black print. On the back of these papers is a block for the new owner to fill out their information and for the seller to sign. These papers can only be transferred if the seller signs them. Once these papers are signed they should be sent to the Registrar of BWP/ NAD with a bill of sale and the appropriate fee for a transfer. Foals of 1996 have papers that are designed to fit inside passports. These papers are pink. There is not a place on these papers for a transfer. These papers must be sent to the Registrar of BWP/

Locate the Transfer of Ownership page in your horse’s passport. The date (day/month/year) belongs in the first column, the new owners name belongs in the second column, the new owners address belongs in the third column, the new owners nationality belongs in the fourth column, and the new owners signature belongs in the fifth column. The seller’s signature MUST be in the sixth column. Then the papers and a bill of sale should be sent to the Registrar of the BWP/NAD with the appropriate fee for official transfer.
DUPLICATE PASSPORT
A duplicate passport may only be requested by the owner who is recorded with the BWP. When a duplicate passport is requested, the microchip must be read and recorded by a veterinarian and submitted to the registry. If the horses does not have a microchip, parent verification will be required through the submission of DNA. Fees for the duplicate passport and DNA are listed in the fee schedule.
