Producer Spotlight

Where are you from? I'm from San Antonio, TX [Texas Made since 89'] How was life growing up in ? Life was good growing up in San Antonio. My family and I are real close, and they keep me focused. How is the music scene in ? I know more gospel artists in San Antonio, mainly because the church I go to allowed me to connect with some. The music scene is more active in Dallas/Austin areas. Who do you have in your play list? Just to name a few: KC & Jo Jo, Brian McKnight, Aaliyah, Boyz II Men, Michael Jackson, R-Kelly, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, (Gospel) Tenth Avenue North, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, (from American Idol) Ruben Studdard, Daughtry, Kik Whalum (jazz)‌ That's just a quick snapshot I enjoy listening to different styles of music, and to appreciate the art of music through the artist. What made you get into music? My grandmother was into music, and played piano by ear. When she passed away when I was 11, I just kept holding on to music even more. She is the main reason why I still create, even to this day. What type of music do you listen to? I listen to Gospel, Jazz, and R&B. I grew up listening to Gospel and Jazz. R&B is my style when it comes to creating music. Gospel because I grew up going to church, and jazz because that's all my dad listened to! Even today, I still listen to jazz and it is relaxing. Who is your favorite artist and why? If I had to choose, I would say R Kelly because my favorite childhood song is "I Believe I Can Fly" from the movie Space Jam. That song always motivated me! Who is your favorite producer and why? Again if I had to choose one‌ it would be Jermaine Dupri, simply because he inspires me to go and make my own path. That guy makes it happen, and he never stops! How do you separate yourself from other producers? Always be myself and have my own style! Who influence your style? Pharrell once said: "Focus on your work and squint at success" People like that help me focus on what I need to do vs. what I want to do. It's important to create your own unique style and not blend in with mainstream. You can follow people or you can be yourself. It takes time to get to where you desire to be in life, but like my dad said to me many times, "honor your gift"
