VOLUME 8.1 APRIL EDITION, 2019
BE KIND TO OTHERS EVEN IF THEY CAN'T BE KIND BACK
EDITOR'S NOTE
It's been one crazy ride... We've reached our goal of 11,000 service hours and it's all thanks to you guys for taking the time out of your weekends to volunteer. From the 5am wake up calls to the 10pm nights. Here's to another wonderful service year with the bars set even higher. In this issue you will be able to find all the events we attended in the month of April as well as our videos on our trip to LTC. You will also be able to see our ENDGAME Fundraiser with Stuy Key Club where we raised over 1500 dollars for the Thirst project. The movie was a huge success and we hope that we'll be able to continue having these types of fundraisers with all of you. The month of May is stressful with APs but we'll all get through it together I promise! Even at times of stress we still have people turn out to volunteer at events rather than studying. Together we help make the world a better place together as a family. Yours in service,
Rachel Lin

Walk for kids growth April 6th
WRITTEN BY: ALIVIA CHEN Walk for kids growth is an event located at flushing meadows Corona Park. Its an event aimed to spread awareness about the growth disorders of children and raise money to fund research directed to solving kids growth disorders. We were originally assigned to help with the setup of the event, man tabes, supervise the walk course, and break down the event. However, there were too many volunteers so many of us participated in the walk and event itself. We walked 5k around Corona Park with posters and raised awareness for growth disorders. The event was super fun because we got to enjoy live music and amazing food. We were provided with subways, chips, sodas, and other snacks. Free toys were also given out:))))))
Double the article, Double the fun Written by: william wu I recently went to the Walk for Kid’s Growth Event on 4/6/19. The event was just your stereotypical Key Club event. We made posters and paraded around Corona Park. There was a cool dinosaur in the Queens Zoo that I thought was real at first. Haha, real funny. I could end this article right now, but there was just so much more. The combined spirit of over a hundred Key Club members nodding their heads along to the beat of “Nice for What” can bring even the shyest kid out of their shell. Hundreds of kids donating money to people that they can just as easily ignore and sacrificing their time to help others when they could’ve just as easily been at home playing Red Dead Redemption 2. They did all this because they wanted to bring a smile to a stranger’s face. This walk was special, because it wasn’t. It was just your regular Key Club event, but Key Club was what made it special.

CARROT BREAK!
CARL SCHULTZ PARK EGG HUNT April 13
WRITTEN BY ANNA YE
At the carl schultz egg hunt event, we helped roll out eggs onto the lawn for little children to hunt, give out and handle the tickets for the event, and make sure everyone was having a good time. the day started off with rainy weather, but ended on a sunny and bright note. I like to think this was a suitable analogy for the event itself, as at the beginning, there were a lot of children and it was quite chaotic, but later on, seeing all the children having fun opening their eggs and finding them filled with candy or small toys and smiling brightly, all the dirt on our shoes and aches in our arms were worth it. I had a lot of fun at this event, and i’m sure a lot of the other volunteers could say the same. with every event, I fall in love with key club more, and this one was no exception.
NYSOM EGGSTRAVAGANZA APRIL 20TH
WHEN THE EGG IS JUST AS TALL AS YOU
PAGE 01
WRITTEN BY LORETTA ENG
As the streets of Harlem flooded with rain, I repeatedly stepped in muddy puddles, making my way towards the volunteer site. Once I approached the entrance of Rodale Pleasant Park Community Garden, the sound of giggles filled the air despite dark clouds hovering over the sky. Joining my friends under a large tent, together we stuffed neon plastic eggs with tiny, cute treats. After a few hours had passed, we were given a break! Thus, we strolled around markets, awaiting for the fun event to start. Given the option to choose various types of jobs, I worked on face painting, allowing me to connect with excited children. Each one wore a big smile when they described to me their imaginative ideas for designs. Seeing their faces light up as they shared their funny and brilliant proposals brought me reassurance in the future of the youth. Every shy “‘thank you’” and toothy grin helped me gain confidence in my abilities to bring a little ray of sunshine in these children’s day, even if it is simply a face drawing.
DESIGN ON A DIME APRIL 27TH
Written by Analise Ponce Design on a Dime was a fundraiser to fight homelessness and aids. The organizations’ workers were very kind and supplied us with water and snacks for energy. We were split up into pairs of 2 or 3 and assigned a display room. In this room we waited for potential buyers to come by so we could offer our assistance. We answered questions about sale price and guided those buying larger items to the cash register. This was the last day of the sale and so when closing time came, we wrapped and packaged everything that we could. I did this with the help of many dedicated NYU students and enjoyed working with them at the event.
PFF WALK April 27th
LEAD THE WAY!
WRITTEN BY MATTHEW HE The PFF Walk event began on a cold and windy Sunday morning. Volunteers arrived around 7:30 to help set up a few tents and assisted the coordinators along the rivers, as well as placing water cups and bananas at the tents. Taping the tents was not easy because they almost got blown away by the cold winds, but at least there was coffee to warm us up. When the people began showing up, we handed out shirts and bags. A few people gave short speeches about Pulmonary Fibrosis to the different groups and families affected. Soon, the walk began and we cheered them on by the starting/finish line. After half an hour, the walk was over and the coordinators gave us lunch. We took pictures after eating and left shortly after.

Stuy and Bxsci ENDGAMEÂ fundraiser APRIL 26
WRITTEN BY MATTHEW HE The ENDGAME FUNdraiser was held on Friday, April 26, which meant our school metrocards worked. There was a Barclays Center meetup at 9:45 AM and Flushing Library meetup at 9:30 AM. The two groups arrived at AMC Orpheum 7 around 10:45 AM and paid $13 for movie tickets. There was a snack deal for those with student IDs. The movie started soon and lasted for 3 hours. There are 4 moments to use the bathroom without missing plot. The Avengers were awesome and you can expect some high-quality Endgame memes. We raised over $1500 for the Thirst Project and took group photos at the two theaters.
