Editor's Note

HEY KEY CLUBBERS!!

I’m writing this the night before our FIRST Key Club meeting of this school year. I remember the last year’s first meeting when I was still a scrapbook cohead. I saw Loretta, William, Shiya, Steven, and Laura talking to hundreds of people on the stage of the big auditorium. I never imagined I would be standing there one day as a board member. But now, here I am! You never know where the future takes you. I met so many amazing people throughout my Key Club journey, and I don’t know what I would have done if I didn’t join this community. My best friends are those whom I met through this club, and this community made me feel safe and comfortable when I first transferred to Bronx Science as a sophomore. Key Club is so special to me, so I want it to be special to all of you as well. I want you all to experience what I experienced and know how many amazing opportunities this club offers! I really hope you all come to our meeting tomorrow and get to know our club better. Joining Key Club as a freshman/sophomore is a great way to find people whom you can have fun and support each other with!

I hope you all had an amazing first month of school and wish you all the best of luck in October! See you all tomorrow in the auditorium!

Common Pantry Distribution

I’m really glad that I signed up for this event! We sorted out cans and food products into bags and sorted them all out after giving them out. I was able to do a bit of all the jobs available, but my main job was to break down boxes. There were tons of boxes to begin with and more and more boxes just kept coming in. It took a lot of power but we managed to get through it! It was an amazing experience especially because I was able to do it with my friends! I also got the chance to know more people by the end of the event. It was really nice and rewarding to know that all of our hard work helped out hundreds of families go home happier!

CHS&R Fair -

Family & Friends Day

I honestly had a lot of fun at the 9/17 Community Health, Resource & Safety Fair -

Family & Friends Day. It was just me and my friend that day helping out, but the coordinators there were really chill! They didn’t make us do much after we helped set up the events and just had us do minor work. The coordinator really tried to make sure we weren’t overdoing ourselves, which was really sweet of them! I painted a butterfly for no reason there too lol. There was a lot of laughing overall throughout the event and it was really nice to see how much fun people were having at the fair!

We Care Refurbish

Many things happened during that event. Originally, our plan was to clean and update the electronic devices, but upon discovering that all the laptops and ipads are out of battery and we don’t have any chargers around, we were left with only cleaning. Bad news aside, I met and made friends with quite a few people, including Will, a senior. The overall mood was very relaxing and enjoyable, and the task is easy enough that anyone can do. We had pizzas and listened to BTS. Definitely recommend key clubbers to try it out if this event comes around, and hopefully next time we’ll get to more than just cleaning.

New York Prostate Run/W 9/4

The event I attended on September 17 was the NYC Prostate Cancer Walk Event, an event that volunteers attend to help end prostate cancer. At this event I was in charge of the water station along the middle of the course (located near Stuyvesant High School) with a couple other of my friends. To be a bit more specific, I poured out water into small cups and would give it to runners that passed by. A couple of my other friends were in charge of a water station nearby. I also had the duty of telling the runners which direction they should run in so they wouldn’t get confused or run in the opposite direction. This event was pretty fun in my opinion and I could show my support for ending prostate cancer and prostate cancer research through something enjoyable like volunteering. Maybe one downside of this event was that I couldn’t help out for the entire duration of the event because I also volunteered at Chinatown Beautification Day which was a couple blocks near the event. Though there weren’t that many new faces at this event, I hope to see more Freshmen and other Key Clubbers at future Walks like this!

I went to the Chinatown Beautification Day

Event and it was a pretty nice experience. There were a lot of people and we went down Canal Street sweeping up garbage and draggin around trash bags. It was honestly jarring to see how much garbage is actually on the street of Chinatown, every block had garbage everywhere. Nevertheless, it was pretty social and I got to be around more people than usual and it wasn't half that bad. We ended pretty early and they provided snacks and lunch for u which is a great plus for events.

NYS

Superhero

During the NYSoM Superhero Festival, my main role was to help set up the activities itself, then I was assigned a job at the front to basically hand out ninja turtle face masks and let kids decorate them. This was definitely a memorable experience, whether it was building a whole basketball set-up, putting big posters up around the fencing (I always needed a chair because I was too short), or attempting miserably to tape a red carpet on the ground, I was able to have fun with my friends and meet new people. I would definitely recommend future events, especially NYSoM because they tend to be big, giving you plenty of having fun while contributing at the same time.

9/24

SoM o Festival

The NYSoM superhero event was super cool! In the event, I was dressed up as Iron Man and I got to talk to a lot of children. As Iron Man, I was also in charge of managing a game to try to shoot a dart into a target. It was really nice interacting with all the children, taking pictures with them, and seeing them happy as they walked around the event marveling at all the dressed-up superheroes and playing games. It was also nice meeting some people from other schools, which usually happens at these events.

It's My Park at Alexander's Alley

This event was pretty nice, I got to meet a lot of new people there. At the event, we helped plant plants and clean up leaves to help beautify an area, while jamming to my amazing music taste through some speakers. It was my first time gardening in a while, which was pretty nice. It was also there where I met some new key club members from the freshman community(!!), very exciting!

September Fundraiser: Bowling Fundraiser

Our Fundraising Co-heads,

Malika and Emily, worked really hard to host this bowling fundraiser. It was the first fundraiser of this school year, and we were so glad to see a lot of new faces! I hope it was a great bonding time for you all to get to know each other as we kick off this school year!

We raised $180 and donated to Alzheimer’s Association!
