A Solo Exhibition By Jack Frame

7th October - 31st October 2021 Throughout October, Byard Art is proud to be hosting a brand new collection of paintings by internationally renowned artist, Jack Frame. Jack has exhibited with the Gallery since 2014. This is his first solo exhibition with us and promises to bring some springtime warmth to the changing season. Jack graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2007 and while he was artist-in-residence at The Lomond School (2007-2009) he featured in the BBC documentary ‘Glasgow Boys’, bringing his work to a wider audience. In 2009 he was winner of the Jolomo Landscape Art Prize and has long been earmarked as one of the most critically acclaimed and collectable young artists in the UK. Bloom, Tree of Life 2021 “My ambition is to make paintings in the spirit of play. The interaction between colour, surface, shape and form. How these dynamic elements vibrate against one another to make visual rhythm and generate a real sense of energy is something I find endlessly facinating. Blooms grow and adapt in the swirls and movemets of pure abstraction, in this way they are deciphered and improvised before they are fixed with charcoal and paint. A long time is spent simply looking before the act of painting begins, feeling for structure, visualising and imagining features. Sometimes this can be immediate, sometimes not. This primitive universal feature, finding form in the surface, is what we have in common with our ancestors. In growing the paintings, I see them as portraits. A kind of Darwinian hunt for proportion, balance and tonal harmony, each projecting a unique character and energy. When encountered as a group they invite comparison. Strangely, it becomes very easy to ascribe a human quality to them. I think this profound characterisation often reveals a subtle truth. The simple act of painting is an attempt to read our own nature, search for meaning and consolation in timeless patterns.” -Jack Frame
