Lee Madgwick
Award winning artist Lee Madgwick is recognized for his mysterious and emotive paintings which depict scenes of abandonment, seclusion, and dereliction.
Both his urban and rural pictures portray parts of the modern landscape that are often overlooked by many (with occasional sprinklings of surrealism). With an undercurrent of mischievous menace throughout, the subject matter is at once thrown into question. Who inhabits these places? What lives do they lead? What is happening or about to happen?
“I would describe my work as imagined realism. I hope to achieve a sense of drama in my paintings, presenting a familiar image yet placing it in an intimate, moody and possibly unlikely setting. A narrative is very important – but intentionally never fully explained. I like to leave it for the viewer to come up with their own interpretation.”
He paints on canvas in oils and acrylics. A play of light is used to generate an abundance of seemingly inexplicable moods to contrast with a brooding sky.
Lee graduated in Graphic Design from Norwich University College of the Arts, 2003 and has been exhibiting his paintings at Byard Art for the last 15 years. Lee’s paintings have been included in exhibitions throughout the UK, and as far afield as Dublin, Amsterdam, Rome, Milan, Stockholm, Madrid, Singapore and New York.
Beckie Reed
East Anglian artist, Beckie Reed is recognized for her stunning woodland scenes. Her high gloss enamel tree trunks and branches, intricate pathways and dappled light are inspired by her passion for in walking some of Britain’s areas of outstanding beauty. Their ancient woodlands, secretive footpaths fuel her with inspiration to create beautiful evocative paintings.
Her technique gives her the freedom to juxtapose loose washes, splattered paint, dribbled branches and controlled, precise areas of paint. It is this contrast that gives Beckie’s paintings their energy and vibrancy. Beckie graduated from Loughborough University with a first in painting in 2004. She has been regularly exhibition her paintings at Byard Art for 15 years building her reputation. Beckie’s paintings are also exhibited as far afield as New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Toronto at international art fairs.
