What is Hyperrealism? Teetering on the edge of optical illusion, Byard Art’s Hyper Realist Exhibiton for 2021 features a selection of works by many accomplished artists. Hyperrealism is more than an imitation of the real world. It is the exploration of the often unexplored. In this exhibition, our artists offer a close, intimate perspective of an eclectic mix of sights. One common thread throughout this stunning exhibition is the phrase “I can’t believe that’s a painting!”. Tommy Carlsson Tommy’s artwork is a reflection on his fascination with the realism in northern European sixteenth and seventeenth century art. For several years his painting has concentrated on the precise depiction of interactions between materials, pressure sources and light and shadow. The artist subtly marries photo-realism with painterly texture and freedom, in the creation of these evocative works. Tommy lives and works in Långasjö (Småland) and Stockholm. He regularly participates in solo and group exhibitions worldwide.

David Gleeson

Each of David Gleeson’s carefully wrought images – portraits, interiors, still lifes – is informed by considered draughtsmanship and close attention to detail, colour and texture. More than an accurate record of the visual world they are imbued with an enduring quality, a stillness that transforms the everyday into moments of beauty and illumination. Each picture becomes its own world, as the artist’s contemplative vision suggests a realm of untold stories.

Sarah Graham British painter Sarah Graham was born in Hitchin in 1977, and works almost exclusively in oil on canvas. Sarah’s paintings are in private collections across the world, in every continent. In 2012, Sarah was commissioned by the band Kaiser Chiefs to paint the album cover of their singles collection ‘Souvenir’. Sarah Graham began painting with oils when she was 8 years old, influenced by her father’s love of photography. The subject of Sarah’s work is usually sweet things, and bright toys. These objects are often from the Artist’s childhood. They are uniquely playfully innocent and optimistic, encouraging the viewer to relate to their inner child. Sarah’s work, while often described as playful and fun, carries extensive discipline and experience with it. A part of her signature painting style is the precisely crafted contrast of blur and clarity. This juxtaposition allows Sarah to draw focus to specific details in her paintings.

C J Green After studying Illustration, Christopher rapidly established himself with prestigious commissions for ITV, major publishing houses, West End theatres and top flight advertising agencies. At the same time the Association of Illustrators asked him to join their judging panel for the annual Best of British illustration awards, which also repeatedly featured his work. Christopher soon found himself increasingly frustrated with the constraints of illustration, and so branched out into the world of murals, sculpture and specialist paint effects- working all over Europe and sending work as far as Japan and the USA. Clients at this time included the likes of Harrods, Fortnum and Mason and the Walt Disney Corporation. The work Christopher does now would most accurately be described as hyperrealism. Although he often uses photography to capture transient lighting conditions, he has absolutely no desire to produce a faithful reproduction of the photographs themselves. Instead he uses the images as reference points for the creation of a heightened,

Donald Macdonald “I have always been fascinated by Photorealism, even as a child I would sit for hours meticulously drawing images from encyclopaedias and copying my siblings school photographs, desperately trying to capture every detail to capture their likeness. It was not until studying painting at Grays School of Art that I really discovered expressive art and working loosely from memory, the contrast between these two very different methods of working immediately appealed and I have been studying and trying to push its boundaries ever since. I create three dimensional scenes using sketches and folded paper which I have previously drawn from memory and place them in compositions and scenarios which are then painted. I like to use this method to convey feelings, emotions, all the while recreating and copying life’s events in some way.”
