Bridget Bailey Bridget Bailey comes from a fashion background, having studied textiles at West Surrey College of Art. In1990 she co-founded the Bailey Tomlin brand, designing and producing millinery for labels such as Jean Muir, Mulberry, and Liberty. Since 2010 Bridget's practice has changed direction to using the techniques and materials of textiles and millinery to make artworks. The materials and textiles that Bridget used while working in millinery are still heavily present in her works. However, she has found new ways to use them; whether it's laying velvet under veiling for a furry bee's bottom, winding thread to make a tiny midge, or sewing lavender stems into a flowing tangle with tiny stitches.

Melanie Goemans ‘In the early morning I walk between the railway line and the river. Small seasonal shifts, incidental things we might rush past usually, become more noticeable walking the same paths like a ritual. I look at what is permanent and fixed, and what is transient and temporary, and conclude that everything is changing, even in this moment. What I photograph and paint is not there now and the painting becomes like a ghost, a trace of a memory of something that inevitably will never be exactly the same again.’ Working from projections of photographs she has taken, Melanie traces loose lines with a fine square ended brush, the resulting marks building up the complicated patterns of the whole. Using traditional materials and composition, her work gives these fleeting moments status and draws attention to their value.

Sally-Ann Johns Sally-Ann John's work plays on the reflective qualities of gold leaf. Her gold-backed drawings are boxed into deep frames, capturing the luminescence of the gold, and inviting the viewer to imagine a whole other world within the case. Her stand-alone images constantly change with the effects of the light. The result is a magical drawing captured in reflected light. Sally-Ann has produced light installations for Cafe 52 in Aberdeen and the Bongo Club in Edinburgh, and has hosted a number of solo exhibitions at venues in both cities. Byard Art have showcased her art at major art fairs abroad and at our Cambridge gallery.

Wendy McBride Taking inspiration from 19th century masters Monet, Morrisot and Degas, Wendy McBride chooses to work in pastel, taking advantage of the medium's translucent quality with which to render her transient subject matter. In 2004 Wendy was awarded The Finalist Fine Arts Trade Guild Anniversary Award and later claimed Prize Winner at the Southwest Academy of Arts 2006. She has been commissioned by public and private institutions including Kingsley Napley Solicitors, Tresco & Bryher Hotels and De Montfort Fine Art Ltd. Fletcher Prentice My work is a constant striving to balance on the one hand my fascination with the object, using paint and enjoying the qualities of paint, breaking down and semi-abstracting the subject matter and surface... and on the other hand my desire to retain and capture the natural beauty of the subject, whether the human figure, an animal or a single bird’
Fletcher's work is a celebration of the natural world, but also a celebration of paint itself. The textures, colours and freedom of paint fascinates the artist, and through his work he explores this medium in the same way as he does his chosen subject.

Helen Ward Helen Ward is a Bristol based artist and designer. Having graduated from UWE Bristol in 2001 with a graphic design degree, she started working as a paper engineer making pop-up books while training as a traditional bookbinder. Nowadays, Helen works from home on her dining room table, armed with a scalpel and a very large stack of paper. The original idea for her paper entomology artwork came from acquiring a collection of Victorian hand marbled paper during her time working at the bindery. ‘The papers were all just so beautiful, I had to have them and I hoarded them in a box for years before I knew what I was going to do with them all!” Some of the patterns in the papers reminded her of butterfly wings- and so the idea progressed...!’

Vanessa Whitehouse ‘In my paintings I have tried to capture a sense of distance, I want the viewer to feel they are standing in a field of flowers or on the beach looking out to the horizon.’ Vanessa creates vibrant landscapes using a range of mixed media, materials and techniques. Grandaughter to the Bloomsbury artist Alfred Jobson Brown, she comes from a highly artistic background and was introduced to painting from a young age. The artist works from her studio in Kent, close to the River Medway. She exhibits her paintings through prestigious galleries across the UK that showcase her work as far as New York, Toronto and Singapore.

JJ Vincent Cambridge based artist JJ Vincent creates handmade ceramic animal sculptures. Initially self-taught, JJ has always had a natural tendency to do, make and understand everything. He is fascinated by clay- the fact that we can take what is essentially mud, and, using a little imagination, produce something that has the potential of invoking emotional response for decades, if not centuries. In the artist's own words,‘I will probably not be around then, but it is reassuring to think that my fingerprints will be.’

Vicky Yates Vicky is fascinated by hares and many other wild animals she has seen both in the Cumbrian countryside and on safaris whilst working in Tanzania. The artist usually works in stoneware so the sculptures can be safely left outside. She decorates her work with oxides and underglazes and occasionally gold leaf. Vicky came upon ceramic sculpture rather late in life, having had a totally unrelated professional background in the NHS. During her training, she attended courses run by outstanding professional sculptors such as Brendan Hesmondhalgh, Annie Peaker, Lorri Aucott, Beth Cavener Sticher and Paul Priest.

Mud + Water Ceramics ‘Our style is Victorian High Tea with a splash of Tim Burton darkness. We gravitate towards rich colours and lots of pattern- florals and foliage. Each piece is unique and designs are made only in small batches.’ Mud + Water Ceramics was formed in 2017 on the Cambridgeshire and Essex borders, by Gaelle Curtin and Lynn Parsons. The artists call it a kitchen table business- the idea was thought up around a kitchen table, the works are often created on the same surface, and objects made often find their home there again. Ceramics include handmade stoneware for everyday use, decorative raku pieces and ceramic art dolls.

Sarah Grove Sarah plays with the concept and texture of textiles with her work, pressing porcelain slabs into plaster casts of deeply stuffed upholstered padding, buttoned silk, waffle and mock ostrich. She says of her work, ‘There is a contrast between the soft pillow forms of the fabric and the cold, unyielding nature of the porcelain’” The interiors of her ceramic pots reveal the artists workings and finger prints, left to reveal the presence of the maker with each individual piece.
