Hello everyone, welcome to March!! It feels like we’ve just passed the New Year celebration for few days. Times always fly so fast, so keep updating yourself every hour.

Our magazine also keeps providing a new interesting column for you. This new column is “Top of the World”, which will talk about the things that being the best, the top, the greatest or whatever. For this issue, it will talk about the country that spends money for travelling the most.

And as always, our magazine still provide you many interesting columns, such as tips to travel for teenager, Destination-Place guide, Trend and, of course, the Highlight. We hope that every column will give you some knowledge and enjoyment.

Student

Traveling is a way that some people relax and let off steam. After nine months of diligent studying, it’s understandable why some college students feel the need to just get away. College is also a time that students begin to travel alone or with friends, outside of the traditional family vacation.

Summer breaks from college are a convenient time for international travel because of the extended time off. Europe caters to students, especially those who choose to backpack their way through the continent. Backpack Europe suggests to plan out an extensive itinerary, including stays at hostels.

However, while college students are often associated with frat and beach parties, more and more young adults are seeking a way to incorporate good deeds with travel. Projects Abroad organizes trips to places such as Cambodia, Argentina, Romania and Thailand. Trips last from two weeks up to six months, though many with Projects Abroad last two to three months.

So, here are some top destinations where popular among college students.

San Juan Puerto Rico U.S. college students do not need a passport for this trip. Puerto Rico offers good value for the money and is usually less crowded than standard spring break destinations. Known as the “Island of Enchantment” Puerto Rico offers great weather, beautiful beaches and good local food. “For college students on a budget, it combines water fun with non-stop nightlife, as well as the opportunity for cheap accommodations and flights,” according to Cheapflights. Though Spanish is the first language of Puerto Rico, as an American territory, English is also spoken in Puerto Rico.

New River Gorge, West Virginia United States New River Gorge cabins are the perfect winter solution for the stressed out and over-extended college student. With all the amenities of a home away from home, you’ll be able to relax and regain the strength you need to get through term. Weekend packages at local resorts typically include a deluxe cabin with a hot tub, kitchen, Wi-Fi, ski passes, breakfast, and a canopy tour. The area offers great group rates, so grab some friends and head out for the weekend.

Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada

Money is of course a major concern for college students who like to travel. “Niagara Falls can satisfy that for cash-strapped youth,” according to press information from Cheapflights.com. There are many inexpensive hotels in the Niagara Falls area and many of the attractions are “within walking distance of each other.” During a weekend visitors can see the Falls and Marine land Theme Park, which features dolphins and killer whales along with amusement park rides. Binge drinking is not being encouraged here. However, for those who meet the minimum Canadian drinking age of 19, a visit to the Falls view Casino or The Dragonfly Nightclub might be fun. Check travel requirements since a passport may be necessary to travel from the U.S. to Canada.

Montreal, Quebec Canada If the cold is your thing, then this is just the place for you, because winters here sometimes get a little rough. On the plus side, though, you’ll have access to almost 300 clubs and the drinking age is only 18. The second-largest city in Canada is full of culture, history, and - lucky for you - youth hostels. Take advantage of the mountains in the area and hit the slopes. If you’re not one for skiing, there are also plenty of places to go ice skating. Brush up on your French before you go - Montreal is the second-largest French-speaking city in the world. It’s a bit like going to Paris, but cheaper.

Thailand Cheapflights.com recommends volunteering over winter break in Thailand. As volunteers, students can “experience more than the average visitor and get involved in the religious and cultural life of Thai people by providing child care or building houses.” Combination packages are available that “fuse volunteerism with outdoor excursions like kayaking, bamboo rafting and elephant riding,” says Cheapflights.com. A bonus is that visiting Thailand in winter will provide sun and heat in the midst of cold winter months.

However, students should carefully research volunteer opportunities to be sure that they are legitimate and well supervised. Students should check in with their college International Study and Travel Office as the first step. College sponsored student volunteer opportunities are the best bet and may provide college credit.

Europe Who wouldn’t love the chance to wander from country to country meeting new people and experiencing new things? Backpacking through Europe is a great way to spend your summer if that’s what you’re hoping to get out of it. Of course you can visit cities that are popular with college students: Florence, Interlaken and the like. But consider going off the beaten path to cities such as Prague or Budapest. Maybe you’ll try them all, because with low-cost airlines, you can fly from one country to the next without breaking the bank. Stay in hostels to get the most out of your experience and have something to write home about.

Australia Australia, “The Land Down Under” is certainly worth exploring. However, keep in mind that when it is summer in the U.S., it’ll be winter in Australia, so plan accordingly. Australia is a diverse continent with beaches, deserts, and outback in the warmer northern territory and wildlife, such as kangaroos, koalas and wallabies that live in forests and national parks. To keep the costs down, look for “a hostel in Melbourne to stay, buy groceries, and master Sydney’s public transit system,” recommends Cheapflights. com. For those thinking of visiting Australia, keep in mind that this will be a very long and expensive flight from the U.S. Students should plan their journeys to Australia well and schedule enough time to travel to and from Australia as well as adequate time in the country. This is a huge continent so take the time to figure out where to go and what to do before you travel.

Additionally, for those who prefer warmer weather, traveling during winter break may be a better option since it will be summer in Australia during U.S. winter break. Again, students should seek travel deals and study programs though their colleges or reputable programs that are experienced in supporting student travel opportunities. Research, plan and avoid scams.

Panama City Beach, Florida United States If you’re not looking to get away from the crowds of other college kids on spring break then Panama City Beach just might be the place for you. Because it’s a popular spring break destination, accommodations are relatively cheap and very easy to find. Go jet skiing, parasailing or swimming with the dolphins to add some flare to your trip. The party never ends at Panama City Beach and - as every college student dreams - you might even run into a few celebrities as you stroll along Florida’s shores.

Costa Rica Participating in a Quest in Costa Rica embodies the more traditional Spring Break experience while at the same time offering the volunteer experience as well.

Costa Rica, located in Central America, is known for being a lush paradise full of natural beauty and biodiversity along with a year-long average temperature between 71 and 81 degrees, March being one of the warmest months. Costa Ricans are famous for living the “Tico” lifestyle; they are relaxed, kind, welcoming and hospitable. Pura vida is a commonly used phrase directly translating to “pure life” but actually meaning “plenty of life” or “full of life”. It is used as a greeting and to let others know that all is well. The volunteer opportunities in Costa Rica include environmental Quests having to do with ecotourism and wildlife conservation and also a sea turtle conservation project. How could Spring break be better spent than servicing the community in the tropical environment of Costa Rica?

Though this may come as a surprise, you can get to and stay in Amsterdam on a tight budget, and you can get even cheaper rates if you choose to travel with a group. So round up some friends and get going. Sight sees with your classmates during the day and party at local bars and clubs at night - a staple of any college student’s spring break. There are dozens of cheap and even free tourist attractions in the area that will keep you busy while the sun is up without taking a toll on your wallet: free tours, free afternoon concerts, and countless other free activities.

Remember, always check the fine print in any travel deal or program before you sign up and pay any money. This includes airfare, hotels and student travel programs Talk to other students who have gone before you and gather as much advice as possible. Do your homework and read as much as possible about your destination before you go!

Chalong, located on the east-central side of Phuket, is a colourful combination of a port, residential area and shopping hub. Here, you will find the spiritual center of the island with the striking hilltop Big Buddha and the beautifully ornate Wat Chalong.

Chalong’s muddy East Coast shoreline makes it rather unsuitable for swimming but it’s an ideal and natural spot for yacht mooring. As well as the Boat Lagoon, Yacht Haven and Royal Phuket Marina, Chalong is a center for intense boating activity. Early mornings and late afternoons are the busiest times at Chalong, when diving and day trip groups are bundled on and off boats. The Ao Chalong Yacht Club, which organizes regular sailing races, makes its base here, and its bar is a favorite spot for sailors to swap yarns and party.

Chalong’s most noticeable feature is its 720-metre long, seven-meter wide jetty, which replaced the rickety old wooden pier in 2001. A parking area and a number of restaurants, shops, tourist information kiosks and open-air waiting areas have been built to serve the many visitors passing through. There’s also a one-stop customs, immigration and harbor master service to assist visiting vessels, as well as a new marine rescue center.

Restaurant Laem Hin restaurant is a couple of kilometers to the north of Phuket Town at Ko Kaeo. The seating for this restaurant is on a wooden jetty that is built over the water – it is basically a no frills Thai eatery, but the fact that it is in such a beautiful location makes it special. Diners get to enjoy watching the looking fishermen go out on their boats. The view here is excellent, but the real reason for why people go to Laem Hin is the food – it is delicious.

The fish and other marine life is displayed in tanks and customers get to choose exactly what they want to eat. Laem Hin is a bit out of the way, but it is worth making the effort to go here for some of the best seafood dishes in Phuket.

CAMP Thailand during University Summer Vacation

Railay is a small peninsula at the tip of Krabi, Thailand. It’s only accessible by boat due to the high limestone cliffs cutting it off from the mainland. This part of Thailand has been popular with rock climbers from all over the word because of its quiet atmosphere and beautiful stunning beaches.

The Summer Camp in Thailand was the highlight of my university holidays. I met some really lovely people and had an amazing time teaching in all three of the schools. I particularly enjoyed the 2nd school as the kids had great energy and were very enthusiastic. The Thai home stay was also another favourite part of the programme. The family was extremely generous and it was great to visit an area of Thailand where there are very few Westerners. I would recommend a PoD placement to anyone. It was good value for money and well organized. The PoD team was very helpful from the UK and when in Thailand. There was a good balance between teaching, socializing and sight seeing.

Overall the programme helped me to become more confident in myself and prepared me for future travels on my own!

If we had a free day the next day then we would go for a night out but if not then we would have a movie night at the resort. Non-teaching days were a bit different...we did a snorkelling trip, a cooking class and rented a jeep and toured around Koh Phangan.

It is very rewarding and great way to meet new people. It helps you to grow as an individual too.

Wake up at 7am (if you want to breakfast!) to be ready for 7.45am to Stephanie Davis and colleague superviser summer camp activities in Thailandleave for the school. Teaching began at 8.30am where we would teach 4 groups for approximately 25 minutes. At 11.30am there would be a lunch break. Lunch was provided by the school who fed us very well! We would begin teaching for the afternoon at 12.30 and would finish at 2.30pm. The teaching would always fly by! In the afternoon we had free time so usually we would go to the beach or relax by the

I chose PoD because the programme they offered suited me perfectly. I wanted to do some volunteering but I also wanted to do some travelling on my own. As I could only afford to be away for a month, 2 weeks of volunteering with PoD and 2 weeks of travelling seemed like a good balance. I also felt the programme was very good value for money. I would definitely recommend PoD to others.

BIGGEST SPENDING TOURISTS

China had the highest number of outbound tourists and amount of overseas spending in the world last year. Ninety-seven million Chinese traveled abroad in 2013, beating the 2012 mark by roughly 14 million, according to the China National Tourism Administration. The number is expected to surpass 100 million this year.

China is the world’s fastest growing tourist source market. Chinese tourists made 83 million foreign trips in 2012, compared to 10 million in 2000.

2012 is the first year which Chinese tourists became the biggest travelling spenders. Chinese travelers surpassed their German counterparts to become the world’s biggest traveling spenders, notching more than US$102 billion compared to just US$84 billion

by German travelers.

The report said Chinese tourists spent on average $7,107 per person during their trips in the US in 2011. The average amount of spending

by a tourist in the US that year, according to the US Commerce Department, was $2,440.

Chumphon Marine Festival

The marine festival takes place over 5 days from 21-25 March 2014 at the Chumphon estuary beach. Activities to enjoy will include marine exhibitions, photography displays, and lots of seaside fun including scuba diving, affordable boat tour packages and the chance to join in with the conservation and restoration of local natural resources.

In addition, there will be displays of rare aquatic animal species, a community garbage-pickup on the beach a fishing tournament. Visitors in good shape might want to join a bike rally up Matsee Mountain, and for anyone who loves great Thai dishes, the seafood festival is sure to be a draw.

The event’s highlight this year is a giant whale shark construction that will be 50 meters long, 14 meters wide and 7 meters high. The giant model will house an exhibition that teaches visitors about the rich history of Chumphon City from its past to its present and future.

THAI ELEPHANT Day

In May 1998, the Thai government approved the designation of March 13 as Thai Elephants Day. The day is dedicated to honor the national animal of Thailand and raise awareness about Asian Elephants as an endangered species.

Elephants have been revered in Thailand for many centuries, playing an important role in the history and culture of the country.

Everywhere you go in Thailand you see symbols of majestic Asian Elephants. Elephant imagery adorns everything from Buddhist temples to beer cans. So it’s only natural that they have their own holiday.

for Keeping Your Makeup in Place During

Hot Summer Months

We know, it’s so annoying when your makeup starts melting during the summer months. The heat means you’re going to sweat, but it also means your skin will likely produce more oil.

There’s some simple steps you can take before, during and after you apply your makeup to keep it all perfectly in place.

From prepping your skin differently during the summer to fight excess oil, being crafty with how you’re applying, to keeping blotting papers on hand, your go-to guide for perfect makeup is right here.

BEFORE

Makeup melts not just because of heat and sweat, but because of oil. Your skin produces more oil in the summer months, so be sure to grab an oil-preventing cleanser and blot before you apply.

Try using a clay mask once a week to reduce your skin’s oil production.

FACE

Apply foundation only where you need it – and if you can, skip it altogether! Especially in the summer, do not overapply.

Light, sheer coverage is best – choose a tinted moisturizer and use concealer where you need it.

If you can’t skip foundation, use a primer first, and then apply the foundation with your fingertips. This will warm it up and when you hit the summer sun, it won’t be such a shock.

Set with translucent powder.

EYESHADOW

Use an eyeshadow primer - it helps keep your color vibrant and keep it from sliding or creasing.

Cream and pressed powder eyeshadows are best because they’re less likely to move. Silicone-based are also good choices.

LASHES

Heat up lash curler to really curl them – but do it carefully! Crimp twice: the middle and edges.

Dust a translucent powder over your lashes (with eyes closed), then apply mascara. It’ll cling to the powder and last longer, your lashes looking fuller at the same time.

Water-resistant is better than waterproof, as it’s less harsh. Test mascara in the shower to see how it holds up to the hot water. If it passes, you’re good to go in the summer heat!

LIPS

Use a lip stain rather than a lip gloss or lipstick, it has better staying power and looks most natural.

If you want to use lipstick, try applying foundation to your lips first. It will create a base and help it stay.

AFTER

Keep a makeup sponge in your bag: so that you can smooth away any creases that develop. Then set the makeup with a light dusting of powder.

Also keep blotting papers with you for any oil that develops – be sure to blot, not rub!

So you are excited for the upcoming trip. Before packing your clothes and heading off to your destination, it is best to get to know the place that you will be going to. Of course, youngster enjoys social drinking now a day, but don’t drink too much alcohol. Never accept drinks or any other foods from strangers. You should not trust just anyone you meet. Be careful especially for the ladies. It is also for your safety that you are not allowed to give out personal information like your mobile number, hotel room etc. It is best to keep your hotel room’s telephone number and other telephone numbers that will help you in case you need to call in security.
