Take a stroll along the Queens Lake walking track and visit the Church of St Peter the Fisherman with its magnificent reflective gardens. Visit the majestic North Brother Mountain in Dooragan National Park. A sealed road will take you to the summit where viewing platforms provide extensive panoramas over the whole of the Camden Haven. There are three wheelchair accessible lookouts, a picnic area and three walks of varying length and difficulty within the park, the most popular being the Rainforest Loop, a 30 minute stroll through lush sub-tropical rainforest. Wind your way back to the base of the mountain and turn left to Kew to join the Pacific Highway for your return to Port Macquarie.

Continuing up Hannam Vale Road a favourite destination with locals is the swimming hole at Waitui Falls. It’s an ideal spot for a picnic especially in summer if you have been picking blueberries at the nearby Brackenridge Blueberry Farm. Continue on Coopernook Forest Way into Coorabakh National Park, which is well known for the views from its impressive rock outcrops. Flat Rock Lookout, perched on top of a 500 metre drop has stunning views of landscapes that were once part of a major volcano that dominated the Comboyne Plateau to the west. A little further on Big Nellie towers 560 metres above sea level and can be reached on foot from the Big Nellie Picnic Area. Starrs Creek Picnic Area is a rainforest sanctuary with majestic palms and crystal clear streams. As you descend back to the coast, Newbys Lookout has views back across the Lansdowne Valley right through to the coast around Diamond Head. A little further on you reach the township of Comboyne, nestled below Mt Bulli. Call in at the Comboyne Community Centre to collect maps and more information on the area. Comboyne is a small village with less than 200 residents but is well known for its local café, the Udder Cow, which offers fresh country food and great coffee. EAT, SEE, DO
From the main picnic area you can stroll down the 2.7kmwalking track, which descends into the magnificent rainforest. About half way along this track Rawson Lookout overlooks the 40 metre drop of Mumfords Creek. Be warned however that the walk back is uphill! For an even more impressive waterfall, visit the 200 metre Ellenborough Falls at Elands, approximately 30kms further west via Wingham Road. Ellenborough Falls is one of the longest single drop waterfalls in Australia. There is a viewing platform from the top, or a timbered walkway to the bottom of the falls with lookouts and rest areas along the way, but again remember, the walk back is uphill!
The mountain road is winding and has approximately 19kms of gravel surface. This road is not recommended for caravans and large trailers. From Ellenborough you can retrace your drive back to Port Macquarie or continue onto historic Wingham via Bulga Forest Drive. Dating back to 1844, Wingham is a picturesque town laid out around a traditional English village green.

From Comboyne head west via Innes View Road to Boorgana Nature Reserve. Parts of this reserve were gazetted in 1904, making it the second oldest in NSW.
Today there remain many examples of its fine heritage buildings, an excellent local museum and a great emerging café culture, the perfect place to ‘step back in time’. Wingham Brush, the last remnants of subtropical floodplain rainforest in NSW with its ancient Moreton Bay figs, is also well worth a visit. From Wingham drive to Taree and join the Pacific Highway for the trip back to Port Macquarie.
Take a drive to this hidden treasure, Kindee Suspension Bridge, the oldest suspension bridge in Australia.
