For over twenty years, HENZEL STUDIO has created luxury handmade rugs fusing the aesthetic of founder Calle Henzel’s unique artworks with breakthrough technologies and artisanal production. The result is pure artistry in form of unique and handmade designs that transcend the boundaries between art and interior design. To expand on this practice, Henzel Studio Collaborations was conceived as a continuous initiative inviting contemporary artists across disciplines and genres to freely and seamlessly translate their work through an alternate media and the extraordinary practices that are involved in the making of Henzel Studio’s rugs.
All pieces are made by hand, using centuries’ old weaving techniques that make each rug one of a kind.
HENZEL STUDIO is a Swedish luxury rug manufacturer established in 1999. Henzel Studio’s ethos is based on the artistic practice of Calle Henzel, founder and creative director. Over the past twenty years, he has translated his artistic practice as painter and collage artist into the medium at hand, positioning Henzel Studio as one of the most progressive luxury rug brands in the world.
While remaining at the forefront of design, Henzel’sfoundation and raison d’être lies in the artisanal productionof local communities in Nepal and India that dates back thousands of years. Through a twelve-step handmade process, Henzel Studio’s rugs are unique works of art. Each piece is handknotted and takes up to seven months to produce.
The organic and artistic process of Calle Henzel has been the driving force in the development of Henzel Studio’s designs. He has over the years in an uncompromised fashion challenged the traditional conventions of subject matter, shape, finishings and special treatments as a result of painstaking research that includes vintage treatments, intricate surface compositions and even natural erosion - methodologies that further blur the distinction between art and design.
Ethical and environmentally friendly production practices are fundamental to Henzel Studio’s quality standards and integral to the company’s future development. The New Zealand wool is one of the purest natural fibers in the world, and by nature a biodegradable resource. The material is exclusively dyed with ecological pigments from Switzerland. HENZEL STUDIO is a proud member and supporter of Goodweave,an independent organization that certifies humanitarian standards of rug producers and provides educational outreach and resources.

Henzel Studio is pleased to partner with the Non-Violence Project on a limited collection of fine art rugs after Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd’s iconic sculpture The Knotted Gun. Regarded as the most recognized artistic statements promoting non-violence, the sculpture was created after the artist’s grief of his friend the musician and The Beatles member John Lennon’s tragic death in 1980.
