A Net-zero Acreage Property

Regeneration Capstone House was designed in the fourth year of the Bachelor of Technology degree for the Capstone requisite course of the degree. For eight months, a team of four people worked alongside a Project Sponsor to help them achieve their vision of a ‘regenerative’ Net-zero home and office space for their family and future business. Heat for this home is provided by a combination in-floor/forced-air furnace system that uses geothermal heat pumps to draw heat energy from below Earth’s surface. Subsidiary heat is provided by burning biomass in the form of a wood fire place. Electricity is provided by an array of 27 silicon photovoltaic panels. The use of a heat recovery ventilation and drain heat recovery system are also included in this project. The construction methods chosen are a combination of insulated concrete form foundation (ICF) and structurally insulated panel system (SIPS) with R-values of R38 and R42, respectively. The roof structure has an R-value of R-60. High performance quad-panel glazing with fibreglass frames have also been utilized. Using energy modeling software, the team confirmed an 80% reduction in the required MJ/year of this building as a result of the chosen construction and heating methods for this design.

ATB Financial Mixed-use bank / architecture firm

Integrate Using the guiding concept of integration, the ATB Financial project focuses on melding the innovative outlook of the company with the rich heritage of the town of Medicine Hat, Alberta in which this branch operates. The building envelope takes into consideration the vastness of Southern Alberta’s skies, the flowing river that divides the city and the rolling landscape on which it is situated. Furthermore, the major design feature is a mirrored surface that seemlessly integrates deconstructive design with the traditional elements of the town’s vernacular architectural styles. Building Features: ATB Financial Bank Branch Generic Architectural Firm Office Outdoor Patio Public Pavillion Space Project Contribution: 100% solo project.

Digital Art Made with Adobe Photoshop

These three digital images are an exploration of transparencies, gradients, and matrices. Overlapping transparent gradients of primary colours - yellow, red, and blue - many new colours emerge. Combined with a sine wave transformation, the colours blend into one another in a grid-like matrix.

Various Mediums A few samples of artwork created using various mediums. Many of my sketches explore curvature and other organic forms. Some of my inspiration comes from nature - things that I see while hiking, such as leaves, tree roots, and rocks - others come at random.
