Works on The Shard risked considerable impact on the surrounding areas, including the adjacent London Bridge station, an ageing Victorian structure and an important transport hub for the city. Ayesa was appointed as the detailed designer for the substructure, which included a top down construction sequence for the triple level basement. Network Rail, an important stakeholder, required detailed analysis of the impact of the basement excavation on the station structure. Ayesa undertook a detailed Ground Movement Assessment, which satisfied Network Rail and their technical advisors, ultimately gaining approvals for our design.

ALNASEEMDEVELOPMENT,
We deliver solutions for marine clients across three key areas; ports and harbours, coastal engineering and coastal modelling. Over 90% of the world’s products are moved by sea. As a result, many commercial ports are increasing their capacity. Ayesa has designed commercial port and marine facilities of all sizes that can accommodate the world’s largest vessels to small craft berths in local harbours. These complex civil engineering projects require local expertise in regulation and permitting, maritime and port operations, and many other specialist areas. Ayesa has senior specialists working across the entire project lifecycle including master-planning, feasibility assessment, dredging and reclamation, detailed design, construction supervision and tender management.
Our projects also include beach design marine structures, waterfront and recreational facilities.
As natural coastlines continue to be vulnerable to erosion from wind, wave and tidal influences, our marine engineers conduct oceanographic surveys and coastal modelling to investigate coastal conditions, and use this data to develop robust coastal protection measures. These coastal schemes include seawalls, revetments, breakwaters, jetties and groynes, to successfully protect coastlines and communities for the next century and beyond. Coastal modelling uses sophisticated simulation software to examine the impacts of hydrodynamic and meteorological conditions at a marine site. We work extensively with these models to investigate sediment transportation, wave penetration, oil spill and dredge plume dispersion on behalf of clients.
As a multi-disciplinary consultancy, Ayesa combines marine engineering with our broader transport and infrastructure expertise to provide a holistic design and delivery service.
OUR MARITIME PLANNING AND DESIGN SERVICES INCLUDE MASTERPLANNING, PORT UPGRADES, COASTAL ENGINEERING, WATERFRONT AND RECREATIONAL FACILITIES.

LOWESTOFT PORT, UK
The Port of Lowestoft is close to one of the most significant clusters of offshore wind farms in the UK. Ayesa was appointed by Associated British Ports to develop the developed design for the outer harbour LEEF project. We developed a concept for the port development into a full developed design ahead of a design and build procurement process. The project involved a critical review of the concept design, a value engineering process of optioneering and the development of the design of the SOV berths, floating CTV berths, and port paving and services. As part of the design process we utilised our in-house site investigation team.

Supplying communities, businesses and public organisations with a reliable supply of potable water is vital to the development and sustainability of modern society. Climate change also presents challenges for water resilience. The successful design, development and maintenance of water infrastructure requires understanding and application across many disciplines: environmental, climate, geological, social and economic factors, which combine to affect water supply and usage.
Our team of experts has over two decades of experience across water projects in Ireland, the UK and the Middle East. Our proven track record has helped government agencies, municipalities, utility companies, industry regulators and contractors, manage

All water infrastructure projects undertaken on behalf of clients are approached by applying global best practice with local knowledge. We develop robust solutions taking into account constraints, such as integration of new and existing assets, demand variance, sustainability and environmental factors.
Our engineers also advise on the sustainable management of this precious natural resource with asset management and optimisation advice.

Our teams have experience across a wide range of building projects in the UK, Middle East and Ireland. Projects range from mixed-use and residential developments, new builds, single bespoke buildings, extensions, conservation, refurbishments and complex structures like 22 Bishopsgate and the Shard; two of the tallest buildings in London. Our teams work directly with clients and support contractors on design and build (D&B) projects.
Our portfolio of building works includes offices, residential, private dwellings, hospitals, heritage buildings, shopping centres, hotels, schools and universities, leisure and sports centres and public buildings.
We offer a wide range of specialist services including basement design, land development,
temporary works and railway consent applications, and can provide structural refurbishment and fit-out requirement services from minor openings to significant reconstruction projects.
We believe that a successful refurbishment requires a thorough understanding of the existing structure, demolition, construction sequencing and temporary works. We ensure these issues are considered at the start of the design process to optimise solutions, and minimise risk and disruption to the existing structure. DEEPHAM’SSHAFT,LONDON,UK
Ayesa offer a comprehensive temporary works design service including deep excavations, building structures and civil engineering structures.
There are many opportunities in temporary works design to provide our clients with a competitive advantage, by developing smart solutions, by collaborative working, and by applying construction sequencing and methodologies. Integrating the temporary works requirements into the final design solution provides even further opportunities for value creation.
We believe the most significant physical risks in construction emanate from structures that are partially erected or partially demolished, and we apply rigorous design processes to
deliver safe temporary structures. We work closely with building contractors to understand their preferred construction techniques and to develop temporary works solutions which fit hand-in-hand with these methodologies.
Along with temporary structural support, projects may also require temporary traffic diversions, utility diversions, environmental plans, earthworks support, crane and piling platforms, dewatering or other bespoke requirements.
Ayesa has expertise across all these construction disciplines and we regularly assist our clients with the aim of adding value through clever temporary works solutions.
