TASTE- a Festival of Food and Art, benefiting Holy Angels, was held at the Bossier Civic Center. The 41st annual TASTE fundraiser offered an art auction from community artists as well as art from resident Holy Angel Artists who created over 200 items for the auction. TASTE also included live music from Windstorm, performances from resident Holy Angel Artists who created over 200 items for the auction. Highland Jazz & Blues Festival The 18th annual Highland Jazz & Blues Festival, presented by Louisiana Healthcare Connections was held in Shreveport’s historic Highland neighborhood at Columbia Park. A thousand or so gathered on the hills to listen to seven hours of non-stop hours of jazz and blues artists on two stages. The musical lineup included local favorite, Grammy nominated vocalist/guitarist Buddy Flett, The Blue Trippers, Heavy is the Head, Everett Street Jazz, Big D’s Blues Band, Dirty Redd Band, Maggie Belle, Creswell Elementary Bucket Drum Team, The Shreveport Second Line Brass Band, and headliner Black Joe Lewis from Austin Texas. In addition to music, there was a “Clash of the Artists” live art competition, over 70 food and art vendors, a children’s area, and a designated pet area for our furry friends. This free music festival is a gift to the community from the Highland Area Partnership.

Shiner’s Hospitals 100 Year Celebration Shriners Hospitals for Children held a Celebratory Gala “It’s a Grand Affair” at the Horseshoe Riverdome to mark the 100th anniversary of the world’s first Shriners Hospital. In 1922, Shreveport Shriner and businessman James Rowland placed the cornerstone of the world’s first Shriners Hospital. Harrah’s Louisiana Downs annual Wiener Dog Race was pawsitively entertaining. Dozens of Dachshunds wiggled their way down the racetrack to the finish line and into their owners’ arms.
