Professional Work Wilmot Sanz Inc.

JOHNS HOPKINS MEDICAL CENTER Green Spring Station Pavilion III The Green Spring Station Pavilion III is an ongoing project for the Johns Hopkins Medical Group involving a new building to join Pavilions 1 & 2. The design includes suites for Orthopedics, Rehab, Imaging, Otolaryngology, Oncology, Lab/Testing, Surgery and Urology. The exterior was designed to reflect similar elements used in the existing buildings of Pavilions 1 & 2. My duties were to translate the Sketchup modeled exterior as well as sketches into Revit. I also took redline drawings and sketches of floor plans, area plans, and elevations and created Revit views and sheets.

M-139 Corridor Improvement Plan Berrien Springs, MI

The M-139 Corridor Improvement Plan was a plan to revist the Berrien Springs Zoning Ordinance and compare it to the town’s Master Plan to see if there were changes that needed to be considered. This project showed what a certain property would like if it had adhered to the way the Master Plan had intended. The goal was to show how to maximize land use, and display how the M-139 Corridor would look following the principles of New Urbanism. The design shows not only how the property itself would change, but also how the street, sidewalks, and overall environment would benefit from this Improvement Plan.

Existing Perspective of Baguette De France

Proposed Perspective of Baguette De France

M-139 Corridor Improvement Plan The Process

The first steps involved creating a design for the Baguette de France restaurant that would be placed on the site. Rather than design a cool, modern and flashy building, we wanted to create something that would be appealing yet reasonable to build from an economic standpoint. With the aid of Prof. Von Maur, we designed a more streamlined and retro style restaurant with an extension that was already planned to be built. In order to make the site relate more to the street and not isolate the building with parking lots or cars, we turned the area in front of the building into a seating area with sitewalks so people can walk by and see customers enjoying the food of the restaurant.

M-139 Corridor Improvement Plan

The Street

The current street of Berrien Springs is a 3 laned road with a left turn “suicide” lane in the middle. With the aid of Civil & Traffic engineering expert Peter Swift, we created a plan to make the roads more safe by turning the “suicide” lane into a median, and creating left land turn queue where needed. Also, bike lanes on either side were put in to create a safe right of way for bikers.

03

The St. Joseph Center St. Joseph, MI

The St. Joseph Center is a theoretical Hotel / Convention Center project located at the edge of the St. Joseph river on the border between St. Joseph, and Benton Harbor, Michigan. The site was adjacent to a bridge and sharing a parking lot with the Berrien County Jury Offices, on the corner of Port St. and M-63. Historically, the two cities have had tensious realtions, and so the intent of this project was to create a building that could be a connection between the two cities through appealing asthetics, and program. The Center has an exhibit hall, pool, restaurant, hotel rooms, and a 2 story parking garage underneath the building.

The St. Joseph Center Hotel Lobby

The St. Joseph Center Structure and Plans

In order for the “bridge” exhibit hall to span across the two ends of the building, a large steel truss had to be designed on both sides. The entire structural frame is held up by using vaying sizes of steel members, while the parking garage underneath the building is made of precast concrete. On the exterior, the white and gray colors are from the use of Corian® Cladding.

The St. Joseph Center Hotel Room

The St. Joseph Center Exhibit Hall

03 04

Niles Plaza & Chapel Niles, MI

The Niles Plaza & Chapel was a theoretical project to enhance the current plaza located on E. Main St by redesigning the site and adding a chapel as well. Instead of tearing the site down and starting from blank, I chose to keep some of the existing buildings and enhance the site by adding more open spaces, and replace the overly large parking lot with walkable paths, along with a park with fountain to promote more usability by the public.
