İRFAN ÖNÜRMEN PENDULUM
Pendulum bears witness to the manifestations of Önürmen’s spiritual states. In this exhibition, the artist oscillates like a pendulum between his inner experience and the traumatic nature of current times. His work explores the dichotomy and discrepancies between personal and public experience as seen through the lens of contemporary media and it’s effects on the human experience. With a unique aesthetic approach comprised of layering tulle and textile materials, Önürmen creates a mysterious tone in each work that explores the concepts of vulnerability, transparency, fragmentation and depth, in the pursuit of harmony and dissonance. With these themes in mind, the viewer is asked to question what is veiled behind each layer. Dual meanings such as order and chaos emerge in works that are at times sober yet playful. İrfan Önürmen İrfan Önürmen (Turkey) graduated from the Istanbul Fine Arts Academy (now known as Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University), Department of Painting in 1987. His artwork has been exhibited extensively internationally including art fairs such as The Armory Show, Art Dubai, Contemporary Istanbul, and Pulse New York.
