INTRODUCING THE CONFERENCE CHAIR LIEUTENANT GENERAL (RET’D) MARY F. O’BRIEN Former Director of Command, Control, Communications and Computer/Cyber, and Chief Information Officer, J6 US Joint Staff Mary O’Brien, a recently retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General, brings more than 34 years of experience leading intelligence surveillance reconnaissance (ISR), cyberspace and security, Information Technology, and data organizations. As the Joint Staff Director of Command, Control, Communications and Computer/Cyber (C4/Cyber) and Chief Information Officer, J6, she provided the Joint and Combined Force with capabilities, guidance, and strategies on behalf of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as well as served as the Joint Staff lead for coordination on the use of the electromagnetic spectrum for national security purposes. Prior to that, she was the Deputy Chief of Staff for ISR and Cyber Effects Operations, A2/6, serving as Air Force’s senior intelligence and cyber officer responsible to the Secretary and Air Force Chief of Staff for Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, cyber effects operations and electromagnetic spectrum superiority capabilities, leading seven directorates and supporting a 73,000-person enterprise with a portfolio valued at $70 billion across the Air Force. She commanded at the squadron, group, wing and numbered air force level, served in the European and Asia-Pacific theaters, and deployed in support of combat operations in Afghanistan. Mary earned a B.S. in Chemistry from the United States Air Force Academy, a M.A. in Organizational Management from George Washington University, and a Masters of Strategic Studies from Air University.
