“A” HOTEL ESKİŞEHİR, TURKEY
4
2013, Constructed Total area: 11,580 m² Client: Atlas Construction
Located with in the very characteristic urban texture of Odunpazari, Eskisehir; the project is a 130 room boutique hotel where the diverse dense and rich architecture of the historical Odunpazari houses has been a major design inspiration. Organized around a courtyard which is typical to the neighbourhood, the building not only aims to create layers of urban space both inside and outside but also to deal with high density by responding to the various important issues of scale and daylight. The retail zone located at the ground level serves the neighbourhood in order to revitalize the street life again while the courtyard that is located at -400 level creates an intimate defined openspace for various public functions of the hotel like the restaurant; the gym and the spa.
The courtyard also brings daylight not only to these public zones located under the ground level but also the multipurpose hall that is located underneath it through skylights. The main circulation of the hotel is along the interior facade of the courtyard not only creating a constant dynamism of movement for the courtyard but also resulting in daylight spatious corridors with courtyard views that are missing in most of the typical hotel buildings. The facade of the hotel aims to break the monotonous repetitive nature of a hotel facade by creating bigger urban scale cluster of rooms. The copper and concrete frames of the facade not only take inspiration from the Chandigarh by Le Corbusier but also mimic the stacked dense urban silhoutte of the surrounding urban area.

BUREAU
RESIDENCE & DOUBLETREE by HILTON HOTEL KARTEPE / KOCAELI, TURKEY
11
2015, In Construction Total area: 45,000 m² Client: MMS Construction
Located on the outskirts of the industrial city of Kocaeli. The project site is within close proximity to the Marmara sea, Sapanca lake and the Kartepe mountains providing spectacular views. being right next to the main highway connecting Istanbul and Kocaeli. The Bureau Kartepe mixed use development with its easy access presents itself as a great potential for development as an alternative to the central city life. The two L-shaped blocks with hotel and residence functions come together to form a central courtyard that is open to public. The courtyard is accessed thorugh two urban gates that are located where the two L blocks meet with each other and the upper levels of the gates provide more private social zones for the whole complex. The courtyard and an introverted scheme is preffered due the adjacent undefined and underdeveloped urban conditions and a more defined social life is aimed within the courtyard by cafes restaurants and shops. The three partite facade aims at dealing with issues of density, scale and the repetitve nature of the
project program with the extensive use of local brick as the main material choice. The more transparent and higher ground level provides room for retail commercial and social functions. The middle portion accepts the repetitive small residence and hotel room functions and aims at creating a pattern that would interrupt the individual small parts and at being percieved as a whole. The upper level of the comlplex creates another transparent layer in order to provide views towards the surrounding sea lake and the mountains. The geometry of this portion is also dynamic and its shaped in order to provide maximum daylight to the courtyard and to create bigger and more spatious residential zones with higher ceilings.

2009, Constructed Total area: 7,100 m² Client: Dilek Gayrimenkul Yatırım & Turizm A.Ş. For many years, unplanned and uncontrolled clusters of similar buildings, many of them without architects, resulted in poor environmental growth. Alternatively, in accordance with the Bosphorus latter view area and building regulations, a contemporary residential project consisting of three low-rise apartment blocks is planned, primarily envisaging the protection of the silhouette. On the direction of Bosphorus overlooking the Istinye road the transparent facade dissolves in the greenery and opens up to view whereas the rear side of the building is preferred to bemore introvert protecting the sub rosa of the bedrooms facing the exiting residential development. Maintaining the height and the angles, the regular roof form is re-interpreted in the shape of wings; benefiting the daylight at optimum, in addition extra volumes derived from this unusual manipılation of form and granted spaciousrooms with highceilings. Less lighted sectionin the middle where the two residential units join at each floor of the blocks, are reserved for the wet areas. The apartment blocks rise on a single console housing the shared areas reaching the landscape.
