STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS

STORIES TO LIGHT MISSION

The Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to presenting stories that convey the richness and diversity of Asian American experiences to the broadest audience possible through film, television, and digital media. CAAM’s brand promise is to elevate the work of storytellers dedicated to a pluralistic expression of the Asian American experience through the following avenues:

CURATION

CAAMFest is the nation’s largest Asian American film festival, presenting world class premieres and launching the careers of Asian and Asian American filmmakers for the past 37 years. Today, the Festival is the heart of Asian Pacific American Heritage month in the San Francisco Bay Area and nationwide.

MEDIAMAKER SUPPORT

CAAM’s Future Fund provides critical support for social issues documentary filmmakers across all career stages. Through R&D grants, our signature Fellowship program, year-round workshops and strategic networking, CAAM nurtures new voices and raises the ceiling for experienced talent.

PRODUCTION + DISTRIBUTION

Since 1982, CAAM has produced over 300 Oscar, Emmy, and Peabody Award-winning documentary films for national public television. CAAM’s productions boast an annual public media audience 5 million strong and form the canon of Asian American documentary films. CAAM’s Educational Distribution houses the most extensive collection of Asian American documentaries in the world. Since 1986, CAAM has been the premier distributor of Asian American films to educational institutions and community organizations nationwide.

“Today CAAM stays true to its DNA as an organization working at the nexus of media arts, community, and heritage.” - NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS

CHANGE AGENTS “The marvelous thing about identityoriented film festivals is they are perennially and intrinsically fresh. New films from all parts of the world provide a built-in mirror or window (depending on whether you identify with the core identity, or are outside looking in) into the various ways in which people see themselves within their countries, communities and families. CAAMFest, formerly called the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival, necessarily encompasses a lot of territory, bridging borders, cultures and generations.

-MICHAEL FOX KQED Arts
