Maplewood BRTOD Plan

Maplewood Station

Include:  Station Assessments  Vision  Circulation Plans  Development Plans  Implementation recommendations

10

BRTOD Planning +

Intent: Increase ridership through improved walk and bike station access and transit-oriented development

+

11

Maplewood BRTOD Plan Addresses:  Policy and implementation guidance for adopted plans  Additional detail for station access and bus rapid transitoriented development

12

Maplewood BRTOD Planning Process  Four phases  Began May 2017  Ends February 2019— Council adopts as guiding document Engagement sessions with City staff, City Council and the community during each phase 13

GOLD LINE CORRIDOR VISION

14

Corridor-wide Vision 1. Establish a multi-modal transportation corridor that link stations 2. Enable station areas to achieve their development potential 3. Increase potential ridership

15

Station Access Hierarchy Corridor Trail

Station Access

A continuous walking and biking link between the ten BRTOD Planning Project stations.

Provide linkages between the Corridor Trail and stations.

Collector Trail

Neighborhood Access

Provide access into station areas from neighborhoods and destinations outside the mile-wide study area corridor.

Provide connections between Station Access, Collector Trail, and Corridor Trail routes. 16

Gold Line Corridor Vision

17

Station Typologies Neighborhood

Employment

Predominantly residential areas with few opportunities for transitoriented infill or redevelopment.

Established employment centers that provide familywage jobs and high transit ridership opportunities

Mixed use Neighborhood

Commerce

Established or significant redevelopment opportunities for neighborhood-scale residential, retail, and employment

Established commercial centers that are corridor and region-serving

MAPLEWOOD STATION BRTOD PLAN

21

Maplewood Station Key Issue: 

No public walking and biking access through 3M campus

Walking and biking safety concerns at Century Avenue and McKnight Road intersections

No Hudson Road walking and biking routes between station and neighborhoods north of I-94

No direct walking and biking access route between the station and neighborhoods south of I-94

Few opportunities for new bus rapid transit-oriented development 22

Maplewood Station Key Opportunities: Establish the station as a ‘gateway’ to jobs and recreation  Improve 3M employees walking and biking access to nearby shopping and recreation amenities  Explore a walk and bike bridge over I-94 between the station, Battle Creek Park, and neighborhoods  Incrementally increase market rate and affordable housing in the station area

23
