COMMUNITY SPIRIT
The large, open piazza surrounding the Duke of York restaurant hosts a finefood market each Saturday along with regular pop-up sculpture, installations and events. The green is home to weekly free outdoor yoga and running classes. HERITAGE
Built in 1801, the site was originally the Royal Military Asylum for Children of Soldiers in the time of King George III. In 1892 it was renamed the Duke of York's Royal Military School before later becoming the Duke of York’s Army Barracks in 1911. Now owned by Cadogan, the Square is managed directly by a dedicated on-site team.

SHOPPING AND LIFESTYLE
The area has a long, rich history as a social and cultural hub, continued today by a flourishing fashion, food, art and design offering. The shopping experience spans the bohemian King’s Road and the designer luxury of Sloane Street, bridging the artisan independents on Pavilion Road. The Saatchi Gallery, Royal Court Theatre, Cadogan Hall (home to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) and National Army Museum are all local cultural draws, with the V&A Museum, Natural History Museum, Royal Albert Hall and Serpentine Gallery a single tube stop away.

THE SPACE An iconic new landmark for the King’s Road
It began with a competition. Architects from around the world, both emerging and established, were invited to submit their vision for the Duke of York Restaurant. The criteria? To create a harmonious contemporary space sensitive to the heritage of Duke of York Square. The winner? London's NEX Architecture, selected from more than 150 entries. PLANNING
A new A3 restaurant consent has been obtained. Please note: the current planning consent does not include any external seating beyond the fabric of the building. L I C EN S I N G
A premises licence has been granted and will be transferred to the incoming operator. R ESTA U R A N T D ES I G N
Arranged over two floors: an open seating area at ground floor, and the basement for back of house including kitchen, washrooms and ancillary areas. Features include the UK's first fully retractable curved windows which, when lowered into the basement, create an outdoors-in dining experience, and a biophilic ash-wood ceiling. B U I L D I N G D ES I G N
Respecting the community significance of the landmark location, a public-use rooftop garden has been integrated into the design. An asymmetric concrete spiral radiates from the roof's highest point into a public green space with seating.

Built using pre-cast concrete, the structure has very high insulation values, meaning it stays cool in the summer with minimal heat loss in the winter. H I G H - P ER FO R M A N C E D O U B L E - G L AZI N G
Heat loss is minimised further using low-solar glass with low U-values. The retractable glazing allows natural ventilation at your discretion. V E N T I L AT I O N
The basement kitchen and ancillary areas can be ventilated using highefficiency heat-reclaim ventilation systems. The remainder of the building can be mechanically ventilated using a system controlled by CO² sensors; heating comes from a high-efficiency air-source heat pump delivered through an under-floor heating system. LIGHTING
Long-life, low-energy LED sources are installed throughout the restaurant, all controlled by a sophisticated dimming system. BREEAM COMPLIANCY
Both the design and materials were selected to attain maximum energy efficiency and achieve a BREEAM score of Excellent.
