A second-year agribusiness student from Atlanta, Georgia, manages and allocates funding for campus organizations as the 2019 SGA Activities and Services (A&S) Liaison while maintaining a superior academic standing with CAFS – that is JOSHUA CLEMENTS. “I’ve always seen myself in a leadership role. I have always seen myself advancing more towards politics, so I figured the first step would be, becoming a part of the Student Government Association (SGA), where we meet with officials on a day-today basis, host Senate meetings and apply Roberts Rule of order. These are all real practices. They are reflected in courtrooms and political realms today,” Clements said. Known to be a leader outside of the classroom, Clements has dreams of becoming a corporate lawyer for a Fortune 500 company. “After attending a couple of Senate meetings and after really deciding on what I wanted to do, that’s where I sought out leadership opportunities,” said Clements.

how diverse the agriculture industry was, he felt like the college's mission and goals aligned with his. “My passion aligned with service and helping others. Becoming a part of CAFS felt more natural than going with the typical business administration route,” Clements mentioned.

Clements found that the power of professor mentorship with CAFS has made his experience even better than he could have predicted. According to Timmons, one of Clements’ mentors, Clements is leaving a mark on CAFS and the student body. “Joshua is a very impressive student. He is a straight-A student with lots of promise, with drive and ambition to see things through. Once you get to know him, you definitely see a leader in his own right and an impressive student,” Timmons explained.

“CAFS has definitely taught me the value in professional development, networking and time management. A lot of these professors take their course work really seriously because they have been in the industry, and they want us to put our best foot forward.” Clements claims that CAFS has had a significant impact on his

leadership skills, but also his leadership positions have taught him a lot about his experience in the classroom.

“Being a student leader has made me more vocal in my classroom. I am always trying to help out my peers and asking them their perspectives on new ideas. I have also gotten better at receiving feedback and being able to deliver it as well,” Clements continues. His “get it done” attitude is echoed in his ability to lead his peers. By continually encouraging his classmates to get involved, Clements typically leaves them with one message: “The only way you are left by yourself is if you never ask for help. You don’t know if you don’t try. Do something that you genuinely have a purpose behind, have goals set in mind and go for it.,” Clements concluded.

Clements has plans on changing the world with his debating skills and to become a corporate lawyer, and he feels like CAFS will give him the skills to be successful.
