Dear Alumni and Friends, As the founding Director of the Center for Transformational Learning and Leadership (CTLL) in the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS), it is my pleasure to invite you to explore the professional development opportunities offered through this organization. The CTLL was created in partnership with members of our National Board of Advisors, with the original intention to support career success of all CAHNRS graduates by providing opportunities to acquire job-relevant skill sets as part of their college experience. Learning Empowering the Next Generation
We believe in learning by doing. CTLL learning programs are multidisciplinary and experiential, bringing together students and faculty from diverse disciplines to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to realworld situations. The CTLL provides exciting hands-on learning opportunities that take students well beyond our traditional classrooms. The reach of our programs also extends beyond campus, both regionally and internationally. Our learning programs are well-planned, supervised, and assessed to ensure quality in academic inquiry, civic engagement, career development, cultural awareness, and leadership. CTLL Learning Programs Include: ■
“
The international opportunities
• Rwanda—Agriculture, Nutrition, and Community Service • Brazil—Economics, Industry, and Collegiate Connections ■
Capstone Courses—In collaboration with CAHNRS Academic Programs, curriculum has been developed for two experiential capstone courses, one in outdoor leadership and another focused on service learning. Taken during the final semester at WSU, these courses offer seniors high quality leadership experiences that will serve as a supportive gateway as they begin their professional careers.

Living Laboratory—The CTLL is a leader in developing experiential learning opportunities in design, agriculture, and community programming on the new 30 acre Eggert Family Organic Farm located in Pullman, Washington. Examples of projects include:
with WSU showed me possibilities for the future. The highlight was seeing Rwandan and American students learn from each other. My dream is to advance local community development needs to improve food security in my home country—this was brought to life through my experiences and support from the CTLL International Immersion Program.” » Cedric Habiyaremye WSU Graduate Student
I
International Immersion—CTLL International Immersion creates opportunities for students to learn the language of global business, engage with complex interconnected global issues, gain opportunities to study and travel abroad, and become an empowered global citizen. Examples include:
• Mobile Agriculture Center—A project directed by the CAHNRS Landscape Architecture program where students designed a learning environment on wheels. This mobile learning laboratory is offered to local schools and community organizations to provide education from the farm to the community. • Design Charrette—In collaboration with the WSU School of Engineering and Architecture, the CTLL sponsored a design charrette where 60 industry leaders in architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, agriculture, and interior design interfaced for a day-long design discussion about next steps to build the Eggert Family Organic Farm.
Internship Job Ready, Day One
We believe immersion-based learning enhances a collegiate education. We also know that businesses of all sizes benefit when CAHNRS students have opportunities for internship placements prior to graduation. Internships give students an opportunity to apply classroom and laboratory skills in the “real-world.” They also allow businesses to explore a potential employment relationship prior to hire, ensuring a good match and long-term retention. Consequently, the CTLL internship program is committed to creating win-win internship experiences for students and industry partners. Our internships are facilitated by CTLL staff specifically trained in supporting private sector mentors and student interns. The CTLL: ■
Promotes and advertises internship opportunities to CAHNRS students;
■
Oversees CAHNRS coaches, a network of former student interns who offer peer coaching to new interns;
■
Collaborates with business partners to tailor workshops to address real-time industry issues.
“
Engaging in the CTLL internship program has made my experience at college come to life. Working at Northwest Farm Credit Services has reinforced coursework on campus, given me valuable insight into what I will look for in a full-time position, and has helped me gain experience that will assist me in my future career.” » Jenica Hagler WSU Undergraduate School of Economic Sciences

Leadership From Title to Tidal: A Novel Approach to Leadership We believe leaders are made, not born. The CTLL offers leadership programming developed for all learners from college undergraduates to executive professionals. Our underlying premise is that leadership does not hinge on a title, job description, or position. Instead, it is an intentional value-based choice demanding integrity, awareness, and practice. All programs, including the signature online Tidal Leadership Certificate Program, are highly interactive, dynamic, and designed to enhance personal and professional effectiveness. The CTLL: ■
■
■
■

After taking the Online Tidal Leadership Certificate Program, the knowledge I gained and the skills I developed have been invaluable in furthering my career.”
