Mullets for mental health
FIVE members of the Cairns mental health team have busted through the boundaries of good taste to shape and grow mullets during the month of September and raise funds for mental health research.
The team of doctors and psychologists, Jan-Paul Kwasik, Sean Mayne, Mike Tervit, Luke Frazer and Ajay Macharouthu are channelling their inner Tiger King look to raise money for the Black Dog Institute’s “Mullets For Mental Health” campaign.
The team of mulleted superheroes has already raised more than $16,000 but are asking locals to dig deep to help them reach their goal of $20,000 by September 30.
The Black Dog Institute is a not-for-profit facility for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mood disorders such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder.
Dr Mike Tervit, Clinical Director Mental Health at Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service said
managing mental health was always important, but especially so during COVID-19.
“People with pre-existing mental health problems are at risk of experiencing higher anxiety levels during the COVID-19 outbreak,” he said.
