DIRECTOR’S WORD To those who are reading this, I want to begin by welcoming and thanking each and every one of you for your patronage to CAISA Fashion Show’s 21st annual performance. With your support, I am proud to announce that CFS has been able to contribute a remarkable $35,000 to the Children’s Health Foundation’s research for Congenital Heart Disease. Thank you again, to all of our sponsors and donors whose generosity and continuous patronage has made the accomplishments of both CAISA Fashion Show and Children’s Health Foundation possible. With that being said, it is my team and I’s greatest pleasure to present you this year’s CAISA Fashion Show: ARIA. For our 21st year, I wanted to take CAISA Fashion Show to new heights and showcase the most incredible group of individuals CAISA Fashion Show has had to date. As you will witness tonight, our performers, models, and executive team have put their heart and soul into the show. I am extremely blessed and honored to have had the opportunity to work with such a passionate and gifted team over the past eight months. Together, we are not just a team, but a family. As the Executive Director of this year’s show – it has been nothing short of remarkable to see 128 individuals with unique talents, ideas and interests come together as a family and contribute to a spectacle that is greater than us all. For what is a spectacle if not an artistic and creative expression of talented individuals coming together? Last but not least, I hope that CAISA Fashion Show—as one team with one united dream—continues to push the creative boundaries to make each show bigger and better, so that our supporters continue to join us and be inspired year after year. I wish you a fabulous performance filled with curiosity and enchanted wonders.
Roy Fu Executive Director CAISA Fashion Show 2019
WORD FROM CREATIVE Hello, and welcome to CAISA Fashion Show 2019! We are excited for you to be joining us on our 21st anniversary. This year’s program, ARIA, explores human nature’s never changing cycle of grief and loss. We wanted to dive into the inner-workings of an individual’s mind after suffering loss and explore the steps one takes to feel whole again. However, we recognize that just like in life, we cannot always expect a fairytale ending. The idea initially stemmed from our understanding of old Hong Kong romance films, an aesthetic that is present throughout the entire production in some way or another. We are both proud of our culture and wanted to highlight it as a part of our creative vision. The name, ARIA, is defined as an accompanied melody sung by a single voice. While melodies are usually perceived as beautiful, they can also carry emotions of misery and heartbreak. Throughout the creative process, we were conscious of the importance of having two female characters working in harmony with each other. In mainstream media, we often see women pitted against each other instead of supporting one another. We wanted to challenge that with the casting of our Main Characters and our theme. With our partnership with Children’s Health Foundation entering its 18th year, our philanthropic drive is stronger than ever. We hope that our contribution may pave the way for meaningful discoveries in developing and engineering treatments for congenital heart defects. Thank you to our audience members, for being here tonight and contributing to this cause. Our humble beginnings started at the Wave with an audience of a mere hundred. 21 years later, CAISA Fashion Show has become an icon of high calibre performances, philanthropy, and creative artistry with an audience of over 1,200. We have evolved from a small student show, to something established and professional. Our executive team and models have put in countless hours and their heart and soul into pushing creative boundaries and leaving a monumental mark in our community. We are incredibly fortunate to have worked alongside such passionate, enthusiastic, and driven individuals that inspire us everyday. On behalf of CAISA Fashion Show 2019, it is with great pride we present to you: ARIA. Enjoy!

LETTER FROM CHF As you put your hands together tonight to commend CAISA Fashion Show for another awe-inspiring event, please take a moment to also recognize them for their incredible philanthropy. Over the past 18 years, CAISA Fashion Show has worked diligently to raise more than $315,000 to strengthen children’s health care in our community. They are truly an inspiring group of young leaders and we at Children’s Health Foundation are honoured to be their charity of choice. Year-after-year, their generosity positively impacts the children served by our healthcare partners: Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre, Thames Valley Children’s Centre and Children’s Health Research Institute. CAISA has chosen, this year, to support ground-breaking research that will build our understanding of cellular defects and how they cause genetic disorders. With this information, scientists will then be able to establish better treatments for kids or perhaps, in future, find cures. Thank you CAISA Fashion Show for your commitment to improving the future of children’s health and helping children and families during their greatest time of need. Sincerely,
R. Scott Fortnum, MA, CFRE, ACFRE President & Chief Executive Officer

LETTER FROM SSSC The Social Science Students’ Council is proud to be sponsoring CAISA Fashion Show again this year through the Student Donation Fund. CAISA Fashion Show is an inspiring way for students to show their creativity and provides a platform for Western’s homegrown talent. This even helps to not only enrich the student experience but enriches the lives of others with its philanthropy. The SSSC continues to be impressed with CAISA and the annual fashion show that has become the largest student run fashion show in Canada. The SSSC is composed of over 60 students from within the Faculty of Social Science, including elected executives and representatives, appointed commissioners and members-at-large. The SSSC runs events and programming for students throughout the year, but we also advocate on behalf of Social Science students on the University Students’ Council and University Senate. The SSSC actively strives to enrich the experience of Social Science students by representing students, providing opportunities for development, and delivering services. All of which would not be possible without the Student Donation Fund and the contributions from Social Science students to the fund. The Student Donation Fund seeks to provide funding to enhance the Social Science student experience. The CAISA Fashion Show has embodied this doctrine in the past, and it is with great pride that the SSSC continues in its support of such a great event. By bringing all students from all faculties together, the SSSC is honoured to continue being the sole faculty sponsor of CAISA Fashion Show 2019. Yours truly,
Nicolas Bottger VP Finance Social Science Students’ Council
