avenoir
n. the desire that memory could flow backward. We take it for granted that life moves forward. But you move as a rower moves, facing backwards: you can see where you’ve been, but not where you’re going. And your boat is steered by a younger version of you. It’s hard not to wonder what life would be like facing the other way…

My name is Prachir Pasricha and I am extremely honoured to be the Executive Director for CAISA Fashion Show 2020. On behalf of the organization, I would like to formally welcome you to tonight’s event at Centennial Hall. avenoir marks the culmination of a year’s worth of time, energy, heart and soul from our team of 75 executives and 60 models. Over the past twelve months, I have witnessed this group of individuals from diverse programs and backgrounds come together to create a spectacle nothing short of spectacular. It has been a true privilege to work with a team that has inspired me every day to elevate our organization to new heights. What inspires us all to deliver an event that captivates the hearts and minds of our audience is our longstanding partnership with Children’s Health Foundation, dedicated to strengthening and transforming paediatric health care and rehabilitation in the region. Through this year’s show, we are proud to support bioinformatics research at Children’s Health Research Institute, where scientists are using this new area of biomedical science to develop personalized patient care. With our partnership with CHF entering its 19th year, our commitment to supporting the vital work the organization does is stronger than ever. Tonight’s donation—your donation—to CHF will pave the way for more effective treatment of paediatric diseases, now and for future generations. I would like to end by thanking all of the sponsors, donors and partners that have made tonight’s show possible. Most importantly, thank you for your support through joining us for an unforgettable night of fashion and philanthropy. On behalf of the CAISA Fashion Show 2020 team, it is with great pride and excitement that I present to you: avenoir.
Hello, and welcome to CAISA Fashion Show 2020! We are beyond excited for you to join us on the 22nd anniversary of our show. This year’s program, avenoir, brings to life the themes of love, loss, and nostalgia. With circumstances keeping them apart, two star-crossed lovers conspire to stay together as the world around them changes. Inspired by iconic styles and references from the past century, prepare for a journey through the decades. At the beginning of our creative process, a big point of our inspiration was a mere reflection of the past as we were entering an entirely new decade. Love was yet another theme inevitability tied with love. We wanted to tell a story about the degree to which the two are bound - passionate feelings distorting the perceptions of time. Through the use of time-specific elements like names, visuals, music, and fashion pieces, our executive team has used their creativity to express the enduring and resilient relationships between our two characters in rapidly changing times. As our partnership with Children’s Health Foundation enters its 19th year, we are incredibly proud to be supporting this organization’s bioinformatics research program. Over the years, CAISA Fashion Show has evolved from a small audience of a mere hundred at The Wave to an icon of high calibre performances. Our executive team and models have been monumental in executing the show’s vision and we are so appreciative of their dedication, passion, and hard work. Tonight’s show could not have been made possible without them and we are so incredibly grateful for their dedication to our team’s mission. As you watch this show, we hope it inspires you to reflect on the memories made in the last decade, as well as those yet to be created.
LETTER FROM CHF Best Care. Most Hope. Across our Region. A second home – that’s how many patients and their families refer to Children’s Hospital in London, Ontario. Through their health care journeys, they come to know it as a place that they can trust and feel safe in during the most difficult times in their lives. When a child’s life is threatened, our medical professionals have the expertise to offer worldclass care. Children’s Health Research Institute is the third largest hospital-based child health research institute in Canada and is a program of Lawson Health Research Institute with affiliation to Western University. There are 111 scientists and associate scientists working to uncover the causes, cures and long-term effects of childhood health challenges. In doing so, they will be able to provide tangible outcomes that result in enhancements to preventative efforts, care, therapy and children’s overall health and well- being. Creativity. Passion. Community. The CAISA Fashion Show brings all these elements to their fashion show year-after-year – to the delight of audiences and for the benefit of sick children in our community. As you put your hands together tonight to commend CAISA Fashion Show for another aweinspiring event, please take a moment to also recognize them for their incredible philanthropy. Over the past 18 years, CAISA has worked diligently to raise more than $350,000 to strengthen children’s health care in our community. They are truly an inspiring group of young leaders and we at Children’s Health Foundation are honoured to be their charity of choice. Year-after-year, their generosity positively impacts the children served by our health care partners: Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre, Thames Valley Children’s Centre and Children’s Health Research Institute. CAISA has chosen, this year, to support ground-breaking research that will build our understanding of complex diseases. With this information, scientists will then be able to establish better treatments for kids or perhaps, in future, find cures. Thank you CAISA for your commitment to improving the future of children’s health and helping children and families during their greatest time of need. Sincerely,
R. Scott Fortnum, MA, CFRE, ACFRE President & Chief Executive Officer

LETTER FROM SSSC The Social Science Students’ Council is proud to be sponsoring CAISA Fashion Show again this year through the Student Donation Fund. CAISA Fashion Show is an inspiring way for students to show their creativity and provides a platform for Western’s homegrown talent. This even helps to not only enrich the student experience but enriches the lives of others with its philanthropy. The SSSC continues to be impressed with CAISA and the annual fashion show that has become the largest student run fashion show in Canada. The SSSC is composed of over 60 students from within the Faculty of Social Science, including elected executives and representatives, appointed commissioners and members-at-large. The SSSC runs events and programming for students throughout the year, but we t also advocate on behalf of Social Science students on the University Students’ Council and University Senate. The SSSC actively strives to enrich the experience of Social Science students by representing students, providing opportunities for development, and delivering services. All of which would not be possible without the Student Donation Fund and the contributions from Social Science students to the fund. The Student Donation Fund seeks to provide funding to enhance the Social Science student experience. The CAISA Fashion Show has embodied this doctrine in the past, and it is with great pride that the SSSC continues in its support of such a great event. By bringing all students from all faculties together, the SSSC is honoured to continue being the sole faculty sponsor of CAISA Fashion Show 2020. Yours Truly,
Mac Grenier Vice President Finance Social Science Students’ Council
