EXPERIENTIAL CONNECTIVITY IN THE WORKPLACE
This form aims to connect occupants with each other as well as with the form, natural environment, and program. The curves deďŹ ne these connections and allow for programming to be translated throughout the form. The inherent desire for connections in the workplace, made evident by initial research on the Apple Campus in
Cupertino, CA, is translated into this space in order to provide a connective environment for Systran. As Systran aims to connect companies with differing backgrounds, this form aims to connect occupants with each other, harness health and well-being through biophilia, and create a continuous ow of ideas throughout the space.

Spatial Programming
PROGRAMMATIC connectivity Systran values connections as it aims to connect companies across the world with the use of their top rated and continually developing translation technology. The connected spaces throughout illustrate the goals of Systran and allow for a programmatic ow. In order to provide optimal connection, the lines between the workspaces and the more communal spaces are blurred. By redeďŹ ning the separation of program, the various programs begin to blend and encourage occupants to interact with others.

SPATIAL connectivity The atrium space allows for connections within the atrium as well as across the building. This spatial connection implements a sense of movement throughout the space that is continuous and enthralling. The semi-private and private spaces are still able to maintain a connection with the rest of the building through the contours continued throughout the spaces deďŹ ning connection from one space to the next.

TOPOGRAPHICAL connectivity In order to maintain a sense of well-being, this space is inuenced by a desired connection to the natural environment. Biophilia is incorporated into the space through the topographic contours representing a programmatic landscape. The contours also allow for a more natural incorporation of planters and water features. Furthermore, the well-being of employees beneďŹ ts workplace productivity.

SENSORY connectivity The connective tactility of the space is implemented with the monolithic cross laminated timber throughout the form as well as the circulation of air throughout the voids. The visual movement of daylight and artiďŹ cial light throughout the space creates a sense of continuity and movement. The sound reverberation, especially in the atrium, also furthers a sense of connection to the space. An auditory sensory connection differs from the others senses in the way sound adapts based on the occupants and activities. Therefore, these sounds connect occupants with the present experience in the space and allows occupants to be fully engaged with the space.

CORRELATION IN COMPROMISE STANDARD + DEVIATING TYPOLOGIES
Based on earlier research involving a standard typology as well as a deviation from common living circumstances with two divorcees living together, this design is based on the principles of correlation and compromise. The standard unit explores the ability of walls at various heights and angles to deďŹ ne a hierarchy of spaces
which allows the women to connect with each other with minimized compromise. The unit for the two divorcee women creates a sense of connection through the overlapping zones of compromise.

2 Divorcees (from separate previous relationships): Divorcee 1 Female Age: 70 Retired Teacher/Substitute Teacher
College Graduate 2 Female Age: 25 Nurse Wants: 2 private bedrooms 2 bathrooms Shared kitchen with adequate storage Clear separation between private spaces Two spaces for entertaining
These two recent college graduates decided to live together as they begin their careers. The graphic designer requires some space for storing supplies and artwork, but has a shared studio space downtown where she works. The nurse works many hours a week, so when she is in the apartment she is either sleeping or eating. However, they both like to entertain their friends, but they need to be able to do so in a way that respects each others schedules. As younger women in their twenties, they are actively dating and meeting new friends so shared and private living spaces are necessary.
Divorcee 2 Female Age: 55 Librarian Wants: 2 private bed/1 bathroom Shared kitchen and living room Easy access to bedrooms from living space as well as between both bedrooms
These two women have decided to share an apartment due to ďŹ nancial needs and desire for company due to their loss of husbands through divorce. One of the women is a retired teacher, but chooses to substitute sometimes for ďŹ nancial stability as well as her love for teaching. She is 70 years old and was married for about 40 years and had one child who is now married with children. She is more reserved than the other divorcee, but enjoys having family and friends over. The other woman is 55 and is working as a librarian. She does not have children and is open to dating and entertaining guests. These women met at a book club where they recognized that they could beneďŹ t from living together.

EMPANADAS CENTRAL A model developed from a textile analysis exhibits a sense of compression and release along with the disarrayed idea of symmetry discovered as the central node circulates freely. This compares to the sensation of breathing, because, when one breathes in, the compression creates tension along with a still peacefulness. When the air
is released, there is circulation, noise, and freedom. The central stairwell creates circulation around a central node that opens up to the release of the open air rooftop bar. The main oor is designed with a sense of compression on either end with stagnant intimate booth seating further from the sounds and smells of the kitchen. The
modules closer to the central entrance, circulation space, and kitchen, create a sense of release with more adjustable seating.

Main Dining Area Perspectives These perspectives exhibit the main floor dining area. The top rendering looks into the more open “release” and main circulation space. The rendering on the bottom shows a more intimate “compression” zone with a lowered ceiling, booth seating, and darker walls.

Main Circulation Perspective This main circulation space represents the central node that allows for a sense of release. This central circulation has harder and more transparent materials, a sense of movement, and counters that allow for people to wait and converse with a drink.

Outdoor Rooftop Bar Perspective The outdoor rooftop bar represents the ultimate area of release with a more casual and social environment. The bar is outdoors in order to allow for the movement of area and the sounds of cars passing on the street in front of the building.
