A NOTE FROM THE
editor
Happy summer! We wish you sunny, lazy days full of family and friends. Check out our calendar for ideas of great things to do during these warm-weather months. Be-You-tiful. This means that you are beautiful when you decide to be yourself. In this issue, we celebrate beauty of all kinds because beauty is many things to many people, and we know it starts from the inside out. We talked to experts in the beauty industry, and they shared their advice and tips. Also in this issue, we share the Wizman Family’s story of building a dream life in Calabasas. What they learned over the years is that love for each other and their children and their family bond are most important in life. We also had fun at THE EVENT again this year. It’s always the best party and benefits the Foundation for the Las Virgenes School District. I’d like to give a special shout out to my team at Calabasas Style magazine this issue. I’m always so impressed by the professionalism, creativity, and way they really care about what they do and the community. I’m privileged to work with these talented people in putting together this magazine for you. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do when creating it. Don’t be shy; drop us a line. We always want to hear what you like about the magazine, your suggestions, and ideas. We are here for you, and all the neighboring communities. Enjoy your summer and send us your vacation/staycation photos! Gayle Barnes Publisher/Editor stylepublishing@gmail.com

17TH ANNUAL OAKS CHRISTIAN DINNER GALA ____________________________________ ____________________________________ Photography by Brandy Lazar and Cornerstone Photgraphy Over 800 Oaks Christian School (OCS) guests gathered to celebrate the 17th Annual Gala Dinner Auction on April 6, setting a historic attendance record for the event, returning for the second year to the Reagan Library in Simi Valley. This year’s event was especially prestigious with George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States, and First Lady Laura Bush attending as special guests. The evening’s festivities began with a silent auction and a collection of performances from the OC Voices a cappella group and OCS parent Paul Anka and a premier of the “Mark This Moment” video. The Bushes took the stage for a wide-ranging conversation, which was the highlight of the gala. The evening culminated in a live auction with amazing prizes, and the highest bid of the evening went to “Barrett,” an 8-week-old golden doodle.

THE EVENT in the Heart of Calabasas Photography by Marvin Steindler and Debbie Vaccarello
Calabasas was the place to be on Saturday, June 1, as guests gathered at the Calabasas Civic Center for The Event, a sophisticated soiree under the stars, benefitting The Foundation for Las Virgenes Schools. Now in its seventh year, The Event, sponsored by The Agency, Westfield Topanga & The Village, Bob Smith BMW, Brent’s Deli, Calabasas Style magazine, and more, drew residents, business owners, and community leaders for a festive evening of gourmet food and wine tastings, auctions, and entertainment. The city’s charming central courtyard proved the perfect setting for the sold-out, block-party-style celebration. Guests enjoyed tastings from premier local restaurants such as The Six Chow House, Pedalers Fork, Ladyface Alehouse and Brasserie, and Gasolina Cafe while perusing one-of-a-kind silent and live auction items. A beer and wine garden offered refreshing sips from local craft breweries and top wineries, while an exclusive The Agency lounge served as a refined hangout between tastings. The evening, emceed by local actor Jerry O’Connell, culminated with an amazing live concert that had guests dancing all night long. We want to thank Deanna Glassberg as one of the co-creators of The Event, and for seven years of being the head of the planning committee.

MEDITERREANEO RE-OPENS AT WESTLAKE VILLAGE INN
____________________________________ ____________________________________ Photography by Debbie Vaccarello
On June 6, the Westlake Village Inn celebrated a spectacular remodel and re-opening of Mediterreaneo, their very special eatery that makes guests feel as if they had been transported to an open-air villa in the Mediterranean. From the detailed design to the updated menu, this has been one of the most exciting projects at the Westlake Village Inn to date. The high-end concept of the restaurant aims to cater to everyone, with personal touches and details at every turn. The interior design brings the Mediterranean feel through several standout pieces, like the custom chandeliers from Murano, Italy. The restaurant also boasts beautiful artwork from John

GARY SINISE FOUNDATION CONCERT FOR DEFENDERS
____________________________________ ____________________________________ Photography by Julia Robinson
On Saturday, April 13, the Gary Sinise Foundation hosted its Concert for Defenders on the California Lutheran University campus to honor Ventura County’s first responders and those we lost during the recent Borderline tragedy and the Woolsey and Hill fires. The event was open to the public and free of charge, offering attendees an exciting evening of music, food, and fun, as well as an opportunity to pay tribute to those who serve selflessly to protect our freedom, security, and wellbeing. Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band headlined the community celebration with a special performance by Grammy-nominated artist Five for Fighting. As a local community member, Gary Sinise hoped that a healing, community-strong concert would provide some support in honor and remembrance of the sacrifices during this time. What is "Calabasas" Style?
By Irene Marshall
Style is a word that can describe a person in the way they carry themselves, their fashion choices, and knowing how to dress for their personal taste. Some people can effortlessly put together a fabulous look, and others seek the expertise of a stylist or stores to help them put it together. When on the streets of Calabasas, we notice that people look effortlessly chic and put together. Their choices have a fun, current, and classy vibe. They know how to accessorize from head to toe and how to choose a great silhouette.
“Calabasas style is unique, in the sense that it borrows from the luxury and street aesthetic while focusing on fashion forward comfortability. Combining both worlds, it sets the precedent for chicease without being pretentious or fussy!” — Jason Salstein, Co-Owner & Fashion Director of THE KINGDOM

Beauty Innovations By Anna Guanche, MD FAAD Board-Certified Dermatologist Bella Skin Institute “Beauty is being the best possible version of yourself, both inside and out.” As a beauty expert, this is my favorite quote. I have found through the years that one informs the other. When we feel beautiful, we are unselfconscious. We feel good. We are braver, happier, more at ease. I’ve been in practice for about 15 years, and beauty has been my passion for longer than that. Indeed, I am not alone, and we physicians are innovating at a fast clip. We want to give people what they want. We all want to look on the outside the way we feel on the inside. Beautiful. Here are a few of the latest innovations that have been developed toward that end.
GuancheLift ™: non-surgical facelift I am a consumer of the beauty procedures recommended to my patients. Usually, when I decide to offer a service at Bella Skin Institute, it’s based on results I see on myself. I had consulted with a plastic surgeon regarding a facelift because I was noticing some changes around the jawline in procedure videos we were producing for social media. I was told the nitty gritty: the price, the downtime, the risk. And seriously, though I am not against facelifts, I was just not ready. My mind was focused on a solution to get around it: energy devices, platelet rich plasma, and cleverly placed facial fill-

ers were all options and were helping. But then, one morning, it dawned on me that I could redrape facial skin by volumizing strategic areas of the scalp. This would create a lift without surgery. Of course, the first person I tried it on was myself. It worked! I felt better about my appearance and those videos. I knew that if I was happy with the results, my patients would also feel that way. After in-depth study of the anatomy of the scalp, I developed the GuancheLift, which allows for a lifted appearance after a quick procedure and no downtime. Patients are thrilled with the results. I will be teaching this technique to colleagues who have shown an interest in offering it to their patients. With fillers, we physicians started originally filling the parentheses, the midface, the lips, and then the cheeks and temples. Then, nose and chin reshaping came about—and the latest evolution for the use of fillers is off-face injections that create a lift. The GuancheLift has been featured on KTLA news and on Entertainment Tonight.
Bella MicroGold: Skin smoothing procedure Have you always wanted your skin to be smoother and more even looking, with reduced pore size and decreased sweating in the midface? Bella MicroGold addresses all of these concerns in a revolutionary new treatment that is highly popular and in demand.
Bella MicroGold is a new way to deliver even, tiny amounts of all types of injectables, mainly neuromodulators, such as Botox Cosmetic, Jeveau, Xeomin, and Dysport, and hyaluronic acid-based fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm, to the surface of the skin. It involves use of a sterile container with gold microneedles that are as fine as a human hair. Injectables can be added into the sterile vial and then microneedled into the skin. Thus, they get through the stratum corneum, or outer protective layer, and get to the layer where they can plump the skin and deliver active ingredients. This is a simple but genius innovation. Not only can this delivery system be used all over the face, but it can be used to treat the neck, hands, and décolletage. As a vehicle, a diluent is used. The benefits of Bella MicroGold are trifold. Microneedling is known to be effective in itself for collagen stimulation. Neuromodulators like Botox help with the finest superficial lines and reduction of oil and sweat production. At the same time, filler can be added to the vial to plump the skin’s surface. Hyaluronic acid is known to be a humectant that attracts hydration to the skin. Again, this type of filler delivery will not reshape the nose or fill the lips. What it will do is make the canvas of the skin smoother and more robust. Skin rejuvenation has never been so easy. Bella MicroGold has minimal to no downtime. It is performed in the office after application of topical anesthetic and thorough cleansing of the skin. There is a light flush afterward that can last an hour or two. The smooth, beautiful results show up in earnest three to seven days later. Results should last four months or so, but our patients are showing up sooner than that because they are addicted to the glow.
GG-Global Glowup: the ultimate skin perfecting procedure series This is a skin-perfecting procedure that is second to none. Experience the smoothest, most beautiful skin you've ever seen in the mirror. It's like a real-life beauty filter. The name, GG, short for Global Glow-up was inspired by the fact that this set of five or more skin-rejuvenating procedures are derived from all over the world. Germany: Jessner’s Peel. First the skin is cleansed and defatted with a topical agent to prepare for a Jessner’s Peel. The namesake peel, developed by Dr. Max Jessner, a German dermatologist, is composed of resorcinol, lactic acid, and salicylic acid. It is a very mild, even peel that is a popular standalone procedure that leaves the skin glowy and smooth, with reduced pigmentation. USA: Microneedling. Shallow (in this case) microneedling, developed by Dr. Desmond Fernandes, is popular for many reasons. First, it stimulates collagen. When delivered with a device such as the Eclipse or Dermapen systems, the results are smooth, even coverage. Small channels resulting in the skin immediately after the procedure make the stratum corneum, or hard outer layer of the skin, more permeable. This allows active ingredients to be delivered through the skin’s surface, where increased effectiveness can be expected.
let-rich plasma is one such ingredient. In the GG, we either smear Tranexamic acid (TXA) to reduce pigmentation, or another proprietary formula to stimulate collagen. And yes, you guessed it: TXA for melasma was popularized in Japan, while the collagen stimulant was patented in France. This step of the GG is tailored to each patient’s needs. Calabasas: Bella Microgold. A small sterile vial with shallow microneedles capable of delivering product to the surface layers of the skin is loaded with our favorites. See previous section of this article. Japan: GG Finishing Mask. This soothing mask is the perfect wrap-up for the series. Originally from Japan but adapted for our practice, this mask soothes, hydrates, and revitalizes the skin. Again, it is a popular standalone procedure but when applied just after Bella MicroGold, it soothes the skin and seals the active ingredients in for maximal effectiveness. Patients love the feeling of this mask and always leave satisfied.
EmSculpt: muscle toning with fat reduction You eat well, you exercise regularly, and your body shows it. You're in good shape, and you're proud of it; after all, you've worked hard to get there. But despite knowing that you're healthy, there are a few fitness goals you just can't seem to reach. Your abs seem completely resistant to showing definition, let alone solidifying into a six-pack. And your buttocks are stubbornly flat despite regular squats. You're ready to do something about it—but what? You might be an ideal candidate for EmSculpt, the first noninvasive body-contouring treatment that can burn fat and build muscle. It improves muscle definition, reduces stubborn belly fat, strengthens gluteus muscles, and lifts and firms buttock muscles. There are also arm and thigh attachments that firm biceps, triceps, and quadriceps, a new addition. Muscles are stimulated supramaximally, in other words more intensely than you could ever contract them yourself. This intensity is the equivalent of doing 20,000 crunches in 30 minutes. Arm and thigh treatments take 20 minutes. Muscles are toned efficiently while fat is reduced efficiently. It is a great combination treatment with CoolSculpting. Beauty is being the best possible version of yourself, inside and out. Let us help you reach your beauty goals for face, skin, and body with new innovations and techniques. Every day better. Better every day! n

Japan or France: Smears. Here is where the active ingredients come in. A smear has a generally negative connotation except in the skin world. Smearing refers to the application of active ingredients to the skin after microneedling. Plate-

Beeswax helps heal and protect the skin and lips to keep them healthy. It is known to soften skin and help conditions such as acne, dry skin, eczema, and stretch marks. The anti-inflammatory properties encourage healing and support cell reconstruction and health. Beeswax helps to hold in moisture and keeps the skin hydrated and, therefore, soft.
Olive oil contains a high concentration of antioxidants, including vitamins A and E. These antioxidants protect the skin from damage by fighting off free radicals that attack cells and erode collagen and elastin. Antioxidants are essential anti-aging ingredients and are an excellent moisturizer for every skin type. The rich nutrients are absorbed, allowing the oil to heal damaged skin, reduce wrinkles, and improve texture.

Ginger water has been around for centuries in everything from medicine and cooking. It’s used as an aphrodisiac and yet also has beauty benefits. It is an excellent source in promoting hair growth, it burns fat, fights acne, and reduces cellulite. It is also known to increase collagen production and reduce skin damage.
Our hydration level directly affects our metabolism. When we are dehydrated, it effects the efficiency of our metabolism and slows it down. In turn, if your metabolism is sluggish, you can jump start it by hydrating with water. Another important fact is that when we are dehydrated, it restricts our body’s ability to utilize fat as fuel. Drink two to three liters of water a day.
Crepey skin has a thin, wrinkled surface that resembles crepe paper on forearms and upper chest. The best way to prevent it is to wear sunblock and cover your skin. The best way to treat it naturally is to moisturize, exfoliate, use gentle soap, and eat a healthy diet. Other ways to treat it are to use retinoids, antioxidants, alpha-hydroxy acids, and beta-hydroxy acids.
Facial acupuncture is a natural alternative that can help treat the signs of aging. This alternative treatment is a key aspect of traditional Chinese remedies. Needles are used to stimulate balance and flow of chi and can stimulate collagen production. Facial acupuncture has been said to improve skin quality, help heal acne, and help heal acne scars.
Aloe doesn't just feel good on sunburned skin, it also goes deeper as a nutrient-packed skincare ingredient that helps lead to clearer skin long term. It is rich in vitamins, and it’s a hydrating, anti-inflammatory. It soothes itchiness and irritated skin, helping with acne and eczema. The best part is the cooling sensation and that it’s full of vitamins and minerals.
For a quickie face mask, a sheet mask will do the trick. It’s a mask that’s cool and infused with the liquid face cocktail of your choice with hydrating ingredients. It works by trapping all the active ingredients in on the skin. The moisture is locked in rather than evaporating. Sheet masks should stay on for 15 to 25 minutes. Any longer than that and the sheet will reabsorb the moisture from the skin.

A Remedy
for Everything Under the Sun By Lori Berezin Photography by Marvin Steindler Southern Californians love basking in our glorious sunshine. However, years of sunbathing can wreak havoc on delicate skin. Fortunately, there is Remedy.
Mirror, mirror, on the wall “Our goal is to help our patients close the gap between how they feel on the inside and what they see when they look in the mirror,” explains Dr. Emery. “We’re not flashy or showy.

on providing honest, individualized, specialized, aesthetic care in a comfortable setting, with a strong emphasis on patient education. Remedy doesn’t try to change your appearance. They just help you look as radiant and youthful on the outside as you feel inside. They take a conservative ‘less-is-more’ approach to aesthetic treatments. Whether you want to plump up your cheeks with dermal fillers or reduce frown lines with a little Botox ®, Remedy’s diverse team of experienced, caring specialists ensures that you receive the most appropriate procedures. Perhaps your summer body feels a little too round. You can reduce some of those curves with CoolSculpting ®. It actually freezes your fat to help destroy its structure, and the fat is then quickly flushed out of your body. It’s ideal for the hips and thighs. If you’re looking to contour the fat around your chin area, a few sessions of Kybella ®, an FDA-approved solution, should do the trick. Named one of the “Top 50” aesthetics providers across the nation by Allergan, Remedy Skin + Body continues to provide cutting-edge treatments at all three locations. Remedy Calabasas opened a year ago and is run by co-founder of the Calabasas location, Cristina Shallenberger, NP MSN. Dr. Emery, Cristina, and their highly skilled team of medical and aesthetic professionals strive to recommend the best procedures and products for each client. All have been proven safe and effective. They won’t pressure you into purchasing a product or treatment and always thoroughly explain the pros and cons of each.
Giving back to the community Over the past five years, Remedy Skin + Body donated over $50,000 in goods and services to area schools and local organizations, including Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Las Virgenes Fire Relief. The Remedy team continues to sponsor and support local chapters of such charities as The Red Cross, Autism Care Today, Go Red for Women, the Alzheimer’s Association, and Cancer Support Community. Dr. Emery and her staff at Remedy Skin + Body look forward to helping community members in Calabasas, Westlake Village, Malibu, and beyond let their inner beauty shine. n

Skin tightening CMS combats sagging skin and jowls through a variety of treatments, including Radiofrequency Microneedling and Thermage FLX. Radiofrequency Microneedling (Starlet) heats the collagen layer of the skin using tiny needles, creating a controlled injury that generates new collagen and elastin. This firms skin and treats fine lines, crepiness, and acne scars, leaving skin looking youthful and vibrant. Thermage FLX is the newest and best in class. It also uses radiofrequency to heat skin and stimulate collagen but without breaking the skin’s surface and with no recovery time.
CoolSculpting body contouring Getting the body you want is as simple as chilling out while CoolSculpting chills your fat, causing fat cells to die while other cells are unaffected so you can target unwanted fat or stubborn bulges. Calabasas Med Spa is a CoolSculpting Certified Practice.

There are some trends we prayed would never come back, and we swore we’d never do them again. But now, they’ve come back in a whole new way, and we’re thinking we might actually try them again. Just don’t ask us to run around in curlers. Some trends should never come back.

How can I tell if my mole is skin cancer? Moles are typically smaller than five millimeters wide. In addi-
tion, they are typically round or oval in shape. A mole will usually have a smooth surface and distinct edge. It will typically be an even pink, brown, or tan. You will typically find moles on areas of your body that are exposed to the sun.
A
If you notice any changes in any of your moles, speak with your health care provider. Some changes to look for include a change in color, size, shape, texture, or height. The surface
may become dry or scaly, or the mole may become hard or lumpy. It may begin to itch or bleed. Melanoma tends to display certain characteristics. Follow the "ABCDE" rule to detect the characteristics of early melanoma: • Asymmetry. Check to see if the shape is asymmetrical. When asymmetrical, one half of the mole doesn’t match the other half of the mole. • Border irregularity. With melanoma, you may see an edge that is ragged or blurred when compared to a distinct edge seen in a common mole. In addition, you may notice the color spreading onto the surrounding skin. • Color uneven. You may notice shades of black, brown, and tan. You may even see gray, red, pink, white, or blue in some areas. • Diameter increase. You may notice an increase in the size of the mole. Although melanomas can be tiny, most of them will be larger than six millimeters wide. • Evolving. You may notice the mole has changed over a period of time (past few weeks or months). Many melanomas show all of the "ABCDE" characteristics, but not all do. Some melanomas only show one or two of the characteristics. If you're unsure, speak with your health care provider. Check your skin regularly for changes in moles or for a new colored area. When you check your skin often, you will familiarize yourself with what's normal. Experts recommend checking your skin after you shower or bathe. If you have any questions about moles or skin cancer, don't hesitate to reach out to your health care provider. Brenda Johnson, R.Ph. Ready, Set, Summer!
For many of us, summer is our favorite season. And with it comes sunshine, beautiful patterns, and summer colors to surround our homes with. Nothing is better than starting a day bursting with inspiration. Here’s what inspires me and my picks for this summer’s must-haves:

MONSIGNOR MURRAY GOLF TOURNAMENT On Monday, May 6, members and friends of the St. Bernardine of Siena Parish and School community attended the Monsignor Murray Golf Tournament at Calabasas Country Club. The 19th annual tournament treated attendees to a day of golfing, raffles, fun, and exciting contests and concluded with an award ceremony and dinner. Major sponsors this year were Agoura Hills Health Care, Hardwood Decking Deals, and CAL Auto Group. The successful event benefited St. Bernardine School in Woodland Hills. This year’s tournament held a special meaning as Monsignor Murray, for whom the tournament is named after, passed away on April 29, 2019, at the age of 103 years old. Monsignor Murray founded St. Bernardine of Siena Parish and School in 1964. The tournament will continue in his honor. Ask the
Pediatrician What pointers can you share for healthy skin this summer? by Dr. Tanya Altmann and Dr. Tiffany Fischman At Calabasas Pediatrics, we strive to prevent issues and promote wellness at all times, which is why we love talking about skincare. The best tool we have to keep skin looking youthful and healthy is protection from the sun. So while your summer is sure to take you outdoors, remember these pointers to help protect yourself and your family. • Dress your kids in sun protective clothing (UPF 30+), a wide brimmed hat, and sunglasses whenever possible. • Spend your outside time—swimming, walking, or whatever— in the morning and evening when the sun is not at peak intensity. • Seek shade often and travel with sun protective gear, like umbrellas, tents, extra sunscreen, and cover-ups. • Choose a sunscreen with zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. These are physical or mineral blocks and are safer for the skin. Avoid sunscreens with retinyl or retinol, oxybenzone, oxtinoxate, dyes, fragrances, parabens, and other chemical filters or preservatives that may be unhealthy or could irritate young skin. • Make sunscreen a daily habit. Sun protection for babies It’s best to keep babies, especially those under 6 months, out of direct sunlight. But the American Academy of Pediatrics says it’s okay to use a small amount of sunscreen on your baby if you are unable to find shade. Be sure to test the sunscreen on a small area of the baby’s skin first to ensure that she or he doesn’t develop a rash. Treating a sunburn Prevention is best. But if your child does get a sunburn, cool compresses, pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, and child gets a blistering sunburn or a burn that covers a large area of

CALABASAS FINE ARTS FESTIVAL On the weekend of May 4 and 5, the 22nd Annual Calabasas Fine Arts Festival returned to The Commons at Calabasas and Calabasas Civic Center, and as usual, it did not disappoint. Over 150 local painters, jewelers, sculptors, potters, photographers, glass artists, woodworkers, and more came out to showcase their marvelous handmade creations. Fine dining restaurants, gourmet food trucks, and live musical performances complimented the lovely exhibition of art from participating exhibitors from across the western United States. As a subcommittee of the Calabasas Parks, Recreation, and Education Commission, the Arts Council serves as a creative force developing cultural art events for the City of Calabasas. The council is guided by the philosophy that participation in the arts enhances peoples’ lives by challenging them to be more imaginative. The Arts Council proudly hosts the Annual Fine Arts Festival the first weekend of May every year.
WALKING STRONG DAY OF CHAMPIONS On Sunday, May 26, the Walking Strong Foundation hosted “A Day of Champions” for the United States Power Soccer Association’s Los Angeles Avengers team at Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks. The Avengers are a 10-member team of boys ranging from 12 to 14 years old who have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The event, hosted by Walking Strong and Mamba Sports Academy, was the culmination of a winning season that took the team from Santa Barbara to Hemet. The event included an exhibition game, a father/son game, food trucks, DJ music, and an awards ceremony. Involved with two teams for USPSA for over 10 years, Coach Armando Ornelas and his wife Sandra have committed their lives to coaching in memory of their son Kyle, who passed away last summer at 23 from Duchenne complications. Walking Strong was founded by Valerie and Jorge Llauro from Woodland Hills when their son Alexander was diagnosed with a rare form of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2011. Supercar Sunday By Dustin Troyan Photography by Steve Geldman In Southern California, it is car show season all year long, but this past winter being very wet, car enthusiasts have waited for the dry days of summer to do what they love to do: show off their prized possessions and drive. Car show season has officially begun as there is no more rain in sight. At Supercar Sunday, the attendance has been off the charts. As many of you know, Supercar Sunday started in the El Camino Shopping Center, next to Calabasas. Almost 20 years later, the weekly car show is still going strong and is one of the most-well-recognized weekly car shows in the world! Supercar Sunday continues to evolve and has been located at Pierce College in Woodland Hills for almost a year. Pierce College is the perfect location as it is an absolutely stunning campus and the parking area is fabulous. There is ample space for all the car show attendees and spectators. Keyes Automotive Group and Porsche Woodland Hills are the presenting sponsors of the event. With their help, the event has again been elevated to a new level. Having a special day each month to feature the Porsche brand has brought a lot of new excitement to the show. Not to mention that Keyes and Porsche Woodland Hills very graciously provide coffee and donuts as well as other Porsche-inspired gifts. And they always have new Porsches on display as well as very special collector Porsches, like the red 959 in the picture. One of the very special things about Supercar Sunday is that you never know who or what type of car will pull into the event. From the rarest hyper-exotic cars to classics to celebrities, Supercar Sunday continues to provide a place for passion and positivity in our community. Stop by this Sunday, and enjoy your visit. Whether your excuse originates with an attitude of fatalism, nihilism, or pessimism or from a simple lack of priority-ism or knowledge-ism regarding savings/investment for the future, there’s no good reason to avoid facing the reality of understanding that money will be a very important aspect to your later years. Are your peers and colleagues saving? Are they finding a purpose to slide a few dollars into a side pocket monthly, such as a 401K or an IRA? KELLER WILLIAMS RED DAY Each year, Keller Williams associates around the globe choose one day to volunteer their time to their local community: RED Day. RED Day stands for renew, energize, and donate. On this day, every office selects a local organization or charity and dedicates an entire day to help make a difference to the charity and its recipients. This year on May 9, the Keller Williams Calabasas team spent the day at Children’s Hunger Fund Los Angeles. Agents devoted the majority of their day to sorting and packing food to be shipped out to hungry children and families in the Los Angeles area. “We are the leading real estate office in Calabasas and the West Valley overall in sales and number of producing agents, and at the same time, we work hard to give back and support the community that serves us,” says Meny Atias, KW Calabasas CEO and owner.

The BMW i8 Roadster
By Dustin Troyan Photography by Dustin Troyan
The 2019 BMW i8 Roadster is truly a unique vehicle. The i8 is a plugin-hybrid that is kind of a supercar of sorts and also not. Yes, it is a hybrid. Yes, it is a sports car. Yes, you can drive it daily. Yes, people take pictures of the car everywhere you go. But is it a street legal race car? No. For 2019, the i8 is offered in the Roadster version, which is really cool. I had driven the coupe, and the Roadster is a totally different experience. And it just photographs so well. As all things BMW, everything on the i8 works wonderfully--the sound system, the infotainment system, and the driver comfort features. It is truly a great car to drive. I put about 400 miles on the car, and I smiled the whole time. As the weather was perfect, the top was always down and I found myself finding every excuse to drive the car. It was that much fun! What makes the i8 special is that there is simply no other car like this currently offered from any manufacturer. Critics might say that the car is not fast enough (it is plenty fast); that it might not handle as well as other supercars; and that it might not offer the mileage that other hybrids offer, but, I firmly believe that this was a passion project for BMW. What does that mean? It means that they are giving you a taste of what is to come, and the i8 is for the enthusiast who wants to define who they are by their own standards and expectations. The i8 checks off so many boxes when it comes to the coolness and technology that you can’t help acknowledge that BMW did something special just by creating it. An exercise in design, form, and function because they could. Yes, all of the safety is there, the creature comforts, everything you expect from BMW. But in my humble opinion, the i8 was produced for no other reason than BMW wanted a “thing of beauty.” I think they nailed it. The more you look at it, the more you fall in love with it. It is a very special concept indeed. For more info: dustin@connectedmediagroup.com n
