(as sung to the tune of the Mickey Mouse Club Alma Mater)

To Thee we sing dear old CalArts; we praise the Black and Blue.

Thou alabaster labyrinth, we pledge we shall be true, be true.

And so, dear fortress on the hill, our hearts before you lay –

Graduation

The ceremony will last approximately three hours and 30 minutes, followed by an indoor reception in the Main Gallery.

Welcome to the 8

Stage Area

We thank you for refraining from approaching the stage. This area is restricted to graduates. To avoid obstruction of anyone’s view, a team of Institute photographers and videographers will document this celebration. Photos will be available for download and sent to the graduates.

Ceremony

As graduates, families, and friends look forward to this milestone with excitement and anticipation, we ask that you please remain seated until all graduates have been presented and the ceremony has concluded. The celebration will continue throughout the evening with a reception being held indoors in the Main Gallery immediately following the ceremony.

Restrooms

The closest restrooms to the Graduation Courtyard can be found on the campus map on page 44.

ADA Accessible Restrooms: The closest accessible restrooms are located on the first (ground) level as well as on the second level. Note: Those needing ADA accessible restrooms may enter through the glass doors on the ground level. When facing the stage, the glass doors will be on your left. ADA accessible restrooms are also located on the second level.

Gender Inclusive Restrooms

The closest gender inclusive restrooms are located on the third level near the Stevenson Blanche Gallery, adjacent to the Main Gallery. Anyone may use these restrooms regardless of their gender identity or expression.

GUEST INFORMATION 10

Smoking

As a courtesy to those around you, please refrain from smoking while seated in the Graduation Courtyard.

Accessibility

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation is available during the Graduation Ceremony. For an assigned seat with a clear view, please contact a volunteer. Seating for wheelchairs on the lawn may be made anywhere. For wheelchair users requiring a hard surface or other accessibility needs, a section has been reserved along the exterior wall of The Herb Alpert School of Music.

Alcohol

The consumption of alcoholic beverages in the Graduation Courtyard is permitted only to those who are of legal drinking age (21+ years old). Any person who appears to be 30 years old or younger will be asked to provide a valid photo ID. Wristbands are required to be served alcoholic beverages at the reception. You may obtain a wristband prior to, and after, the Graduation Ceremony in the Main Gallery.

Flowers

Many students opt to wear an orchid lei during commencement. If you did not pre-order your flowers online, you may still purchase bouquets and leis at near the entrance of the Lund Theater on the third floor.

Assistance

If you need assistance during the ceremony for any reason, please contact a volunteer. Volunteers will be identifiable from their purple Graduation t-shirts. Emergency medical staff and Campus Safety staff will be on campus throughout the event.

Scholarships at CalArts

On this special day, we salute our remarkable and talented graduates and thank the many generous and forward-looking individuals, foundations, and corporations that have recognized the creative brilliance and the tremendous potential of our students. They help ensure our graduates’ future success by contributing to and, in many cases, endowing scholarships at CalArts. Approximately 400 graduating students received scholarships totaling close to $5.2 million. All gifts and pledges for scholarships will help secure the future of our Institute and shape the futures of our students. Your support is a vote of

confidence in our efforts to nurture, challenge, and transform the lives of students and allows us to be good stewards of this extraordinary community.

Thank you to the many members of the CalArts community who have established the scholarships listed here and on the following page. Congratulations to our new graduates, their families, & friends!
