our downtown unique.

This antiquarian bookshop in downtown carries an everchanging inventory and vast selection on used and rare books, along with a few new ones. In addition to a great selection of books, they also sell art, ephemera, maps, postcards, and photography. As you walk through the stacks, piled well above your head with books from great authors like Edward Abbey, Orson Welles, John Grisham and Ray Bradbury, you’ll have a difficult time settling on just a few titles.

Gracie’s Gracie's is Salt Lake City's one and only "Gastropub." With two floors, two patios, and by far the most beautiful view of downtown and the Wasatch Mountains; Gracie's is a must for a night on the town. Along with great food and drinks, Gracie’s also offers live music or a D.J. almost every night of the week. Bring your friends and watch your favorite team play on one of their 22 large flat screens or hang out and play a game of pool, shuffleboard or darts in the game room.

MARCI WISER

Where is your favorite place for a date night? It depends on the mood of the date night. If it’s casual, I love checking out a good movie and then hanging out at a great dive bar, like Good Time’s in Layton, Murphy’s or The Green Pig in Salt Lake. You know, darts/karaoke/shots, they all make for a good date. But if we’re in more of a ‘swanky’ mood, it’ll have to be Takashi for sushi followed by a martini at Kristauf’s Martini Bar. Mmmm …

Where is your favorite place to go shopping? I am so excited that we have City Creek. I love cruising around and checking out the stores that we’ve missed. We now have all the best department stores, which aren’t great for my wallet, but my closet loves it. I also love The Gateway and Tanger Outlets in Park City at Kimball Junction. Between those, they give me the shopping buzz I need.

What is your favorite thing to do around downtown? You name it - eat, drink, laugh, love, be merry, shop, get parking tickets. Salt Lake doesn’t get enough credit for its downtown scene. There are a lot of great places we can enjoy, without the hassles of the sweaty masses found in other big cities.

Where’s the best place to go with your family? We love the Clark Planetarium, the IMAX screen is great and the kids love to check out the space and science exhibits. Other favorites are: the zoo (we’re members), Bees games, iHop on Sunday mornings, my daughter has a crush on the divers at The Mayan, and my son would take us to every Jazz game if he could. We’re all over the place, but there are so many great options.

I think I would take time to see the things I don’t get to see very often. I would hit Southern Utah, check out Zion, spend the night at Bear Lake in a log cabin that smells like fresh sawdust. I don’t get to do that stuff enough. Can someone call X96 and tell them this girl needs a day off?

Well, there are a few things. First, we’re never more than 30 minutes away from anything we want to do – boating, skiing, hiking, shopping, theater, night life, etc. Move to L.A. and see how long it takes you to find a parking spot, let alone get across town. The 801 is also very clean and safe. Not only do I see Utah’s finest on every corner, but the mountains are my security blanket and the sidewalks are so clean I could just lick ‘em. the music director at KISN called and offered her a real radio job. The rest, as they say, is history. “I love being on the air because I get to talk to listeners all day, play music and hopefully bring a smile to someone here and there,” Marci said. As if this mother of three and almost four wasn’t busy enough, she started Tattoo Cosmetics earlier this year. She loves the artistry of make-up, and it also gives her an excuse for her obsessive addiction to cosmetics. Check it out at www.tattoocosmetics.net.

What are Utahns better at than anyone else in the world? Bad driving! But seriously, raising kids. Coming from a girl who has lived in many different U.S. zip codes, Utah is the best place to raise a family – and we Utahns have it down to a science (well, at least most of us).

STYLE Now that the kids are back in school and their shopping is done, it’s time to focus on you! September just might be the best time of year to go shopping at some of your favorite boutiques, stores and salons. Whether you want to pick up a style you see from Fashion Night Out’s runway show or you’re looking for that full wardrobe make-over with extra pampering, finding your personal style has never been easier in Salt Lake. From men’s suits to accessories and beauty products for her, we have a list of some of our favorite things. It is said that clothing makes the man. Beckett & Robb is doing its part, making men into gentlemen, one suit at a time. Using only the finest materials, dedicated master tailors who proceed with skilled workmanship and complete each piece with meticulous detailing. Each piece is 100-percent custom; they never use a pre-existing pattern, each garment is cut & sewn by hand according to more than thirty measurements, resulting in a truly custom suit, shirt, or overcoat. Beckett & Robb’s custom clothing exemplifies a commitment to creativity and craftsmanship. Style takes many forms, yet the finest things always have an element of sophistication, simplicity, and perfected craftsmanship. Beckett & Robb | 150 South Main Street, SLC www.beckettrobb.com

What’s old is new again at Bettie Page! As the weather cools down, warm up with a hot fall look in the Iced Coffee dress. This figure hugging shape will show off a woman’s curves and embrace the true style of the 1950’s. The warm coffee tone is a great neutral that pairs well with almost any combination of accessories. This is truly a classic retro style made for the modern woman! Bettie Page Clothing 77 Rio Grande, SLC www.bettiepageclothing.com

Some say the best accessory for fall is nail lacquer. On trend for Fall 2012 are classic shades of rich burgundy and midnight blue that pick up on the strong, feminine attitude. German-icure from the new Germany Collection by OPI is just that, strong, feminine and bold. You can find this beauty and others like it at Got Beauty. It was the end of a hot summer day. My polka dot stockings had a run and the 50-foot walk to the post office seemed daunting as the sun beat down on gum melting in the parking lot. After what felt like the longest stiletto sprint in modern history, I made it into air-conditioned heaven and fidgeted to get my PO Box key to turn. Minutes of feminine huffing and puffing led to the realization that my box was not going to open due to the plethora of magazines which were about to reveal that fall fashion was here.

I quickly pushed my four-inch shoes against the wall, hiked up my Karma Boutique baroque style skirt and pulled with all my might. Let me tell you – one 6 x 6 box is not enough for all those glossies! As magazines flew out of my box and bystanders were pelted with scattering subscription cards and Vogues (yes, I have three subscriptions thanks to loving gift givers), I knew it was time to start planning my fall wardrobe. Summertime vacations and fun may be ending, but September is here!

Just like magazines, September is the “it” month for Utah fashion as it kicks off autumn styles and events. Boutiques like SexyModest and Nineteen70 are expanding with new locations this autumn. Scheels is opening their first store in Utah and recently Kiehl’s, Peek and about 400 new Bohme stores opened. Fashion is alive and well in Utah and just like any great magazine or fashion blogger, we know how to kick off the season – with Fashion Night Out. This year’s Gallivan Center extravaganza is on September 14th

and will showcase local looks, trends, designers and the hottest stores. Pair that with killer runway walks and the opportunity to hobnob with Utah’s fashion elite and you’ve got the perfect fall sizzler. For Fashion Night Out 2012 you’ll see all the Vogue fashions I sat staring at as post office bystanders stood shocked

at the site of a girl with her skirt stuck to her mailbox. Take the modern military trend for example. For those of us who have seen local designer Sophie St. Clair’s ALFA FEM collection, the look is exciting and offers a variety of options for those who want to go and do. The structured look of military combines detailed buttons and accessories, and

pops when paired with a great pair of red pants. So next time you’re headed to the Leonardo to check out some art pump up your look with this sophisticated style. Then, take a drive over to the Gilgal Sculpture Garden, where you’ll be your own piece of art in the outdoor collection. For those looking for more relaxed movement, grunge is where it’s at.

9.14 Now don’t go all Nirvana on me quite yet because fall’s grunge is a modern take on the trademark plaids. Add a skirt and even some lace to update the look - then head out to Saltair or the Depot to listen to today’s top local and national bands. For the city dweller, wear this look at the Hive or take a trip to the mountains and relax around a campfire in comfort and style.

Fall’s grunge is a modern take on the trademark plaids.

Matt Spencer Photography

If you can’t get past the Nirvana grunge association this fall, try mounting your wardrobe with the equestrian look (no horses required). You don’t need to be British royalty to pull off a great pair of leather boots as you gallop through downtown for your kid’s next play date at the park. Wearing tailored pieces to create a clean, outdoor look will prep you for a coffee break at the Rose Establishment or a trip to Octoberfest at Snowbird. A perfect look for men too, male hunters will want to keep an eye out for elbow and knee patches. They will give your style an extra touch of interest, detail and swagger.

22

For those who are looking for a more classic style to define their lives by (both this season and next), take a chance on Utah’s first Bettie Page shop at the Gateway. This 50’s inspired store provides great pinup and carhop looks. For anyone who has eaten a Pace’s Tiger Blood Popsicle or had a Nelson’s Frozen Custard shake knows that there is always a place for the Motown era. You can stick to traditional 50’s activities such as the Redwood Drive-In Theatre or branch out to create a day look that will not be forgotten. Take your hip-defining style for a stroll at the Red Butte Garden or for an afternoon lunch with the gals. Men, slick back that hair and

No matter which look you decide to adorn this fall, remember that layers will keep you warm and that daring is en vogue. Whether your wardrobe includes a mix of incoming trends or classic looks, take a chance on fall by exploring other seasonal styles including baroque, romantic gothic and oriental. Utah’s boutiques are already stocked with accessories, which will warm you up to the new looks you’re dying to try, but wonder how they’ll look on you. Once you find a style you like, start incorporating new clothing pieces into your wardrobe to perfect the outfit (all of which will be showcased at this fall’s Fashion Night Out). If you’re not quite sure how to mix and match, check out local stylists like Jen Clyde, Kat Fedorova and Alicia Richmond (Chic on a Shoestring) for tips. Beerhive Pub 128 S. Main Street, SLC

Maxwell’s East Coast Eatery

Cosmopolitan | $8.50

357 S Main Street, SLC

Ingredients: High West Vodka, fresh lime, cranberry and a dash of triple sec This cocktail’s for all the nonbeer drinkers who visit the Beerhive. With Park City’s very own, High West Vodka, this cosmo is a great way to keep the night simple and classy. FYI this one’s not on the menu, but the bartender will whip it up for those who ask.

BS Mojito | $9 Ingredients: High West’s Silver Oat Whiskey, fresh strawberries, basil, lemon and lime juice, basil-infused simple syrup & soda water It may sound like the BS Mojito would be a sugar rush, but it surprisingly mirrors a mild sweet tea. For those who don’t like their drinks too strong or too fruity, this is a perfect match.

Dick n’ Dixie’s

Market Street Grill

479 E. Broadway, SLC

48 Market Street, SLC

St. Effin | $6

Bling Bling | $9.50

Ingredients: St. Effin- Effin Cucumber Vodka, St. Germain Liquor, soda water and lime The St. Germain in this cocktail gives the cucumber flavor of the vodka the subtle flavor of wildblossoms. When combined with the zest of the lime all three flavors combine for a full blown drinkgasm, making you want more.

Ingredients: Absolut Vodka, fresh muddled raspberries and a float of La Marca Prosecco champagne Prepare to be smitten! Whoever drinks the fanciful Bling Bling will be the lush of the night. The raspberries are a breath of fresh air that compliment the perfect float of La Marca Prosecco.

The Red Door | 57 W. 200 S #102, SLC

Cocaine Lady | $9 Ingredients: Vodka, amaretto, Kahlua, Bailey’s, cream, sprinkled with a line of powdered sugar This is one of the best dessert cocktails in downtown Salt Lake — the Cocaine Lady. The drink’s flavor is a liaison between a milkshake and a frothy latte. This drink is so good it leaves you wanting more and more, no matter what time of day it is.

Salt Lake has vibrant night life and can serve up some pretty mean drinks. There is a variety of ambiance to be had in the downtown area. With all the options downtown has to offer, you can have laid back night with a few friends or party until the sun comes up, any day of the week.

Kristauf’s Martini Bar

Bar X

16 Market Street, SLC

155 E 200 S, SLC

Purple Cadillac | $8.50

Edison St. | $9

Ingredients: 1800 Silver Tequila, Blue Curacao, cranberry and lime juice, sweet and sour with a salted rim The Purple Cadillac cocktail is for all of those margarita lovers. It starts out salty and ends with a thirst-quenching sweetness. It’s balanced and subtle. The sugary twist will leave you wondering how you got to the bottom of the glass so quickly.

Ingredients: Bourbon, Drambuie, absinthe rinse, grapefruit bitters and grapefruit twist Enjoy the best of both worlds with Bar X’s infamous 2011 original — Edison St.! This gentlemen’s drink is strong, but a surefire way to get the night started. The musky bourbon warms the belly and leaves a small hint of fresh grapefruit aftertaste.

Ingredients: Pinnacle grape vodka, grape pucker, lemonade, soda Sugar rush! This drink tastes like a liquid, grape Jolly Rancher. It’s filled with great flavor for those who have a sweet tooth.
