2021/2022 Season Fall Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra

music connects

Greetings! Music has the power to connect us, to move us, and to inspire us. I can’t wait to be with our musicians in front of a live audience after more than a year apart. This period has not been easy for any of us, and a lot of changes have taken place in our lives and in our world, but I believe we have all found an even greater appreciation for music and how it can bring us together. As we emerge from the global pandemic and respond to the urgent need to address racism in our communities, we are committed to making sure everyone feels welcome on our stage and in our concert hall. This September we’re opening our doors with a special concert for the frontline workers who helped all of us throughout the pandemic — on behalf of the Calgary Philharmonic, I truly thank you. Then, I’m thrilled to be back to conduct Ludwig van Beethoven’s Eroica — this was the last symphony we performed onstage in March 2020, so it’s only fitting to celebrate our return with this triumphant work. Our Fall lineup continues with a vibrant mix of classical works old and new, movie and musical hits, and Canadian guest artists including energetic fiddler Ashley MacIsaac and soprano Anna-Sophie Neher.  While our stage was empty last Season, we were far from silent. Our high-quality digital programming was enjoyed by thousands of people over the past year. I am immensely proud of what our Orchestra and team accomplished during this time, and we will continue to bring you accessible, high-quality online music experiences, including a special collaboration with Making Treaty 7 this Fall. Finally, we want you to know how grateful we are for your support — people like you give us the inspiration and encouragement to keep playing. As our 2021/2022 Season begins, I’m thrilled to be sharing live music with you again and optimistic about the journey that lies ahead.  See you soon.
