THE CALGARY SCIENCE SCHOOL

Principal’s Message November brings with it report cards, student-led conferences, new electives, the end of volleyball season and the start of basketball, among other events. The transition to trimester two is a very important one, as it allows a fresh start for some and for the vast majority it means a well deserved pat on the back at report card time. I want to thank all of our parents who attended student-led conferences and those who provided feedback to us. We want to ensure that the conferences are as valuable and informative as possible for everyone involved. This November also saw the first chili cook-off hosted by CSS. Ku-

dos to the school council for being so creative in finding ways to engage parents in the council’s activities and in bringing people together to help build on the already strong community we have. I look forward to the upcoming council meeting where the precursor to the actual meeting will involve a panel discussion (including some of our girls) on the particular needs of girls in schools – this in addition to sampling numerous chocolate laden desserts! Again, I applaud the council for their efforts and creativity. The end of November also saw the projected completion date for the Instructional Activity Centre (a.k.a. “the cage”) come and go. Regardless, we’ve been told that

the space will be completed before Winter break and, depending on inspections, may be available for use as part of the Peace Festival. Lastly, I wanted to publicly thank the eight student teachers who have been part of our school community for the past three months. Their contributions have been substantial and their commitment to your children unquestionable. Darrell Lonsberry Principal
