Thank you for your continued support and involvement in the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce. Here’s some of our significant first quarter accomplishments: Program Development
LCC had Healthcare Day January 12, with tours of Autumn Cove, Stringfellow Memorial Hospital, Sarrell Dental, Regional Medical Center, and East Alabama EMS. YLCC had Industry Day January 10, with tours of Honda, Northeast Alabama Entrepreneurial System, and the Anniston Army Depot. Conducted mock interviews with seniors at Ranburne High School on January 23 Partners in Education kicked off with area school administrators meeting on January 17. All area public school systems were represented in attendance. Participated and observed Piedmont High School's Advantage Plus program January 30 Made visits and toured Sacred Heart Catholic School and DeArmanville Elementary School Met with JSU's Educational School interim Dean Dr. Tommy Turner Presented on dinner etiquette to White Plains High School's FBLA club on February 10 Appeared on Calhoun County's Most Wanted that was filmed on February 7, to speak about LCC & WOW Hosted a Job Shadow Day for 32 juniors and seniors representing all high schools from the Calhoun County School Systems, placed within 28 different organizations throughout Calhoun County On February 9th LCC & YLCC had their combined Law and Justice Day, with tours of the Calhoun County Courthouse and the Calhoun County Jail, and two Police K9 dog demonstrations. LCC also had their Local Government Day on February 9, meeting with county and municipal administration. YLCC had JSU Day on February 28, touring campus, hearing from various departments and featuring a roundtable discussion with a panel of current JSU students. LCC Alumni Spring Connection Luncheon was held February 22 at the Oxford Civic Center, with 42 people in attendance to hear Liz Huntley. The Chamber Award of Excellence program kicked off this month with several student submissions from 8 different Calhoun County Schools and winners were announced at the March 9 Board meeting. Met with Dr. Petersen, Superintendent of Jacksonville City Schools to discuss strategic plan and future of JCS. Partnered BAE Systems with JSU Engineering to fill summer internship Co-hosted Worlds of Work March 7th-9th at Oxford Civic Center. There were 3,250 8th graders in attendance from Calhoun, Cleburne, Talladega, Etowah, Randolph, & Clay counties Organized presenters for the WOW Employability Skills Sessions aimed at 11th & 12 graders Attended the WOW Wrap Up Reception on March 29 at Classic on Noble to discuss survey results for the 2017 WOW and plans for the 2018 WOW. Chamber Award of Excellence Calhoun County Schools were presented on March 16 at the Calhoun County Schools Board of Education meeting. Served as guest participant at the Golden Springs Elementary School Gardens Growing Kids Ribbon Cutting on March 24 Highlighted Anniston City Schools and Jacksonville City Schools with table display in Chamber Lobby LCC completed their 300 hour class project with 2nd Chance LCC had a trip to the State House and State Capital in Montgomery as part of State Government Day on March 16. YLCC Scholarships were presented to Lauren Usrey of Alexandria High School and Reid Hightower of Pleasant Valley High School.

Received 21 Nominees for the Business Awards on May 11 Launched monthly "Local Loop" insert in Anniston Star. February 24, hosted Economic Forum with 82 in attendance March 21, hosted Business Basics with JSU SBDC & City of Anniston, with 15 in attendance
Organizational Development
Chamber Ambassadors met on January 10 at the Chamber to discuss 2017 programs and commitments. Chamber Ambassadors meeting was held on February 14 at Hotel Finial, and sponsored by Eastman. Chamber Ambassadors meeting was held on March 14 at the Chamber. The meeting was hosted by Sunny King Automotive Group. Made 68 retention visits to members with upcoming renewals and 50 prospect calls and visits in January 64 retention visits to members with upcoming renewals, and 47 prospect calls and visits were made in February. 51 retention visits to members with upcoming renewals, and 43 prospect calls and visits were made in March. Business & Biscuits was held at Downing & Sons in Anniston on January 5, with over 40 members in attendance. Business & Biscuits was held at the Chamber and sponsored by Telephone Communications (TCI) on February 2 with over 40 members in attendance. Business & Biscuits was held at the Chamber and sponsored by Regional Dental Center on March 2 with over 30 members in attendance. Lunch & Leads was held on January 11, sponsored by NobleBank & Trust and held at Hubbard's Off Main in Oxford with over 60 members in attendance. Lunch & Leads was held on February 8, sponsored by Eastman and held at Garfrerick's Cafe in Oxford with over 30 members in attendance. Lunch & Leads was held on March 8. It was sponsored by Telephone Communications (TCI) and held at Western Sizzlin’ in Oxford with over 30 members in attendance. Business after Hours was held at American Back Institute in Oxford on January 17 with more than 80 members in attendance. Business After Hours was sponsored by Regional Dental Center and held at the Buckner Event Plaza in Anniston on February 21, with more than 100 members in attendance. Business After Hours was sponsored by the new RMC Mediplex in Oxford on March 21 with more than 120 members in attendance. Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies were held for Anniston Housing Authority (remodeled home), WDNG (introducing 95.1 FM ), Posche Hair Salon (relocation), Farmers Insurance- The Jarod Mitchell Agency (grand opening), Jacksonville Public Safety Complex (grand opening), Model City Insurance (grand opening), Simmons Staffing (new location), The Dannon Project (expansion), and the Amy Angel Team associated with Keller Williams Realty Group (grand opening). Presented Longevity Awards to American Back Institute, Jacksonville Bookstore, Turley's Body Shop, Fort McClellan Credit Union, Moore Printing, Knox Concert Series, Alabama's ABC 33/40, Calderys USA, Anniston City Board of Education, Piedmont Board of Education, the Anniston Star, H&R Block, Amedisys Home Health Services, and Bennett Lumber Company. There are 31 new members YTD. Created new informational video to explain member benefits to prospective businesses. This video is a part of the new marketing campaign initiative. 2017 Membership directories printed. Chamber 101, a new member orientation, was held on March 22 with nearly 30 members in attendance. The Ready Business Workshop Series held the first of four courses on March 23, with 15 members participating. We have 10 team captains in place for the April Membership Drive. Participated as a judge for the 37th Annual Black History Heritage Festival on Saturday, February 18th. Spoke to The Spirit of Anniston Committee at their monthly meeting to communicate information about Chamber events and resources. The Chamber has 1066 members.
Tourism

March 7-9, set up & demonstrated for Worlds of Work Hospitality & Tourism sector Premiered “Natural Treasure Hunt” Tourism Scavenger Hunt for cash prize with the Anniston Star, on March 14 Created a full color ad for AHSAA State Basketball Program Chamber Staff had Fam Tour of Springwood Inn Bed & Breakfast. Public Relations
The Visit Calhoun County Facebook Page now has 1175 likes. The Chamber Facebook page has 3766 likes/Followers. The Chamber's January E-Newsletter, distributed January 2, had 500 opens, of the 2009 sent. The Chamber's February E-Newsletter, distributed January 30, had 540 opens, of the 2021 sent. The Chamber's March E-Newsletter, distributed February 27, had 551 opens, of the 2032 sent. @VisitCalhounCo has 453 followers on Twitter. The Chamber's Twitter, @CalhounChamber, has 1,147 followers @VisitCalhounCo has 271 followers on Instagram, with 1380 new likes and 47 comments from 63 pictures and hashtags. CalhounChamber.com had more than 11,739 visitors, with 4499 directory searches of our online membership directory. VisitCalhounCounty.com had more than 2,066 visitors, with 85% being new visitors. The Visit Calhoun County blog has generated more than 814 page views. The Chamber's Blog garnered 234 views. The Chamber's App, Calhoun2Go, has 170 users. With 11 active job posting, we garnered 315 views. Our Calhounchamber.com event calendar received more than 8444 searches. Our 7 Hot Deals received 106 views.

January 10, Youth Leadership Calhoun County had their Business & Industry Day, touring the NE Alabama Entrepreneurial System, Honda and the Depot.
January 5, Downing & Sons hosted and sponsored the Chamber’s Business & Biscuits at their downtown Anniston location, located at 1030 Gurnee Avenue.
January 11, NobleBank & Trust hosted Lunch & Leads, with more than 60 member in attendance, at Hubbard's Off Main, located at 16 Choccolocco Street in Oxford. January 5, Anniston Housing Authority celebrated a ribbon cutting for another remodeled home at their 1627 Moore Avenue location.

January 24-25, the Chamber & Visitors Center was pleased to welcome the Alabama Tourism Department’s Advisory Board to their first quarterly meeting of 2017 at the Hotel Finial.
January 17, Calhoun County School Administrators heard from the Chamber's Public Affairs Committee, the Chamber's ViceChair of Program Development and more launching the Chamber's Partners in Education program. The Chamber was excited to participate in Piedmont High School's 2017 Advantage Plus Program, connecting students to business leaders like Phil Webb and Del Marsh, teaching soft skills in breakout sessions and hosting an etiquette lunch at Jacksonville State University.
January 18, Jacksonville celebrated the ribbon cutting and open house for the new Public Safety Complex, housing the Police Department, Fire Department, Municipal Court, Municipal Jail, and a FEMA 361 Community Safe Room, located at 911 Public Safety Drive SW.
January 23, Model City Insurance celebrated a ribbon cutting for their new independent insurance agency at 818 Leighton Avenue in Anniston.
Congratulations to our Customer Service Representative Judy Myers, celebrating three years with the Chamber! Judy joined the Chamber Staff in January of 2014. In her role as the Customer Service Representative, Judy makes sure Members of the Chamber and general public are getting the information and resources they need. Judy is dedicated to Calhoun County citizens and visitors to ensure their experiences in our region are the best. Thank you Judy for your work!
2017 Annual Meeting Honors
At the Annual Meeting, each year, we celebrate the many successes of the past year and preview our exciting plan of action for the coming year, as we swear in the new Board of Directors and announce the Chairman’s Cup Recipient and Ambassador of the Year. 2016 was a year of record setting events and success. Thank you to those who worked so hard and contributed to make it great. Thanks to you, the Chamber continues to succeed because of our members’ and volunteers’ involvement and dedication to this organization.
Each Year, the Brenda Dozier Hollis Chairman’s Cup is awarded to recipients for their efforts, contributions and dedication to the Chamber and our communities. Brenda was dedicated to this Chamber and served as an advocate for getting new leaders and younger people involved with the Chamber. These honorees have worked tirelessly to grow the Chamber to truly represent and engage our business community and region. Bridgette Magouirk is the manager for RMC’s Occupational Health and Wellness Program. She has spent over 11 years focusing on reducing workers’ compensation costs, improving employee health, and designing and implementing physician partnerships with local industries. Bridgette Magouirk has been involved in Chamber programs for over 15 years and served as the Vice Chair for Business Development the last 2 years. On the Board of Directors since 2013, Bridgette has dedicated her volunteer hours in making sure the Chamber has profitable and successful events. As the Chair of the Business EXPO and with her dedication, she has lead this program to become the Chamber’s premier non-dues program with record attendance. She has assisted with every program of the Chamber from Small Business Activities to Salute to Industry Golf, Membership Campaigns and numerous others events. Whatever the event or program, you can be sure that Bridgette will be there to show her support for this community and the Chamber.
The Ambassadors’ mission is to promote general membership services and enhance goodwill for the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce with the highest degree of professionalism, knowledge, and integrity; mastering in Recruitment, Retention, and Referrals. Through their active role and participation in ribbon cuttings, ground breakings and events, the Chamber is able to better serve our membership. Some Ambassadors go above and beyond what is expected, well representing their business and the Chamber in the community. Our Ambassador of the Year, Trisha Anderson, became a Chamber Ambassador because she loves to meet new people, and it was a natural fit. She embraced the mission of the Chamber Ambassadors, and right away began working to make a difference by visiting with current members, helping to recruit new members, and educating everyone she spoke to about the benefits and resources available through the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce. She was born into a military family in Germany and through her life has lived in Panama, Japan, and the United States. Trisha graduated from Talladega High School in 2000, and holds a B.S. in Accounting from Colorado Technical University Online. She loves to sew and do crafts of all kinds. She currently resides in Munford, AL, with her husband Brandon, a medically retired U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sergeant, and their kids Brianna, Audrey, Tamryn Che’ and Kristoffer.
February Events
February 2, the Chamber celebrated its 38th Annual Meeting at the Oxford Civic Center with more than 250 in attendance.
February 7, the Hotel/ Motel Meeting took a field trip to the Anniston Museums and Gardens, including learning behinds the scenes stories and plans for the complex.
February 2, Telephone Communications, Inc. hosted the Chamber's monthly Business & Biscuits at the Chamber.
February 2, seniors and juniors from Calhoun County Schools were invited to job shadow in fields of their interest at area businesses.
February 8, the Small Business Committee met at Anniston's Carver Community Center. This committee is the great crew that helps organize workshops and the business awards, and these meetings are open to the Chamber Membership.
February 8, EASTMAN hosted Lunch & Leads at Garfrerick's Cafe, located at 655 Creekside Drive Suite C in Oxford. February 6, Simmons Staffing celebrated a ribbon cutting for their new location, as Anniston's only independent staffing agency, at 1516 Quintard Avenue, Suite B.

February 9, Leadership Calhoun County joined forces with Youth Leadership Calhoun County for Law and Justice Day, learning about the Sheriff's Office and Jail, the County Commission, the Courthouse, and our municipalities.
February 24, the Chamber hosted the 15th Annual Economic Forum, presenting an Economic Update from Jacksonville State University's School of Business & Industry and the Center for Economic Development & Business Research, the Economic Development Council, the Federal Reserve and the State's Department of Commerce.
February 17, the Dannon Project celebrated a ribbon cutting for their grand opening at 715 Martin Luther Drive, in Hobson City.
February 21, Regional Dental Center hosted Business After Hours and Mardi Gras Madness at the Buckner Event Plaza on McClellan.
February 23, Leadership Calhoun County and Alumni met at the Oxford Civic Center for their Spring Leadership Connection, featuring guest speaker and author Liz Huntley.
February 24, the Amy Angel Team with Keller Williams Realty celebrated the ribbon cutting for their new office at 11 Public Square East in Jacksonville.
February 28, Youth Leadership Calhoun County spent the day touring Jacksonville State University.
March Events
March 2, Regional Dental Center hosted Business & Biscuits at the Chamber office. March 9, the Chamber Board met for their monthly meeting at the Chamber office, providing updates from ViceChairs on 2017 thus far.
March 15, the Military & Security Affairs Committee met to receive updates from local Military and Security organizations. March 3rd and 4th, Leadership Calhoun County Class of 2017 worked on their class service project with 2nd Chance, painting and repairing rooms for their clients.
March 7-9, volunteers, businesses and industries volunteered at Worlds of Work 8th Grade Career EXPO, with more than 3,250 students experiencing career fields with hands on activities.
March 8, Lunch & Leads was hosted by TCI at Western Sizzlin Oxford, with 35 members in attendance.
March 16, Leadership Calhoun County was accompanied to Montgomery by the Chamber's Public Affairs Committee.
March 21, in partnership with the City of Anniston, JSU Small Business Development Center, SCORE and East Alabama Regional Planning, the Chamber presented “Business Basics.�
Recognition of Service Excellence ROSE is an acronym for Recognition of Service Excellence. This recognition honors those who go beyond expectations and their job description to make everyone feel welcome in Calhoun County, by providing exemplary service and customer satisfaction and positively enhancing visitor experience during their stay. From Hotels and Attractions to Restaurants, these individuals work in the hospitality industry and provide direct support to visitors and customers.

March 21, RMC hosted Business After Hours at the brand new, soon to be open Mediplex in Oxford. March 23, the Chamber partnered with the Calhoun County EMA for the first of a four part Ready Business Series at the Oxford Civic Center.
On March 22, Chamber 101 showcased how members can make the most of Chamber Membership by engaging in events, committees and member only resources.
March 24, Golden Springs Elementary celebrated a ribbon cutting for their school gardens.
