Thank you for your continued support and involvement in the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce. Here’s some of our significant second quarter accomplishments: Program Development
YLCC had their GSCC Day on April 11th and had 30 in attendance. LCC had their Small Business and Community Service Day on April 13th. There were 24 class members in attendance. For the Community Service Day portion the class participated in a poverty simulation developed by Shannon Jenkins of the United Way. LCC Advisory Committee met on April 17th to finalize YLCC & LCC Graduation plans. They also approved and finalized the Chamber of Commerce's Executive Leadership program called CLIMB (Calhoun Leaders in Management and Business). Partnered with Career Coach Tommy Wood to assist in locating participating businesses for Anniston High School Seniors' Job Shadow Day on April 14th. There were 82 Anniston High School Seniors who shadowed local business employees within various career fields. Represented the Chamber of Commerce as guests at the 2017 Calhoun County Schools International Fair that was held at Saks High School on April 20th. April's Chamber Award of Excellence submissions focused on Anniston City Schools' students favorite museum exhibits. Winners were Messiah Clay of Randolph Park Elementary School, Brenton from Cobb Pre-K Academy, and Jamir Ferrell of Randolph Park Elementary School. YLCC Graduation Breakfast was held on May 2nd at the Oxford Civic Center. YLCC parents were in attendance as the students received their certificates. YLCC Scholarship Certificates were presented to winners Lauren Usrey of Alexandria High School and Reid Hightower of Pleasant Valley High School at their respective high school Award's Day ceremonies on May 10th. LCC had Quality of Life Day on May 4th. Rosie's to Go gave us a significant discount toward the gift cards awarded to the scavenger hunt winning team. LCC Graduation was held May 9th at Zoe's on the Lake. Sheriff Matthew Wade was the Roy Crow Award Winner. The 2017-2018 LCC Application and Brochure were completed and put on the website, as well as emailed out to all chamber members. Chamber Award of Excellence Award Recipients for May were Lily Schimmelbusch of Coldwater Elementary, Ay'Kayln Gilbert of C.E. Hanna, and Kobe Slaughter of Coldwater Elementary. This month's submissions focused on drawing their favorite historic home. Submissions were judged by Edye Anoatubby of Posche Salon, and Award Recipients received their certificates at the May 16th Anniston City Board of Education Meeting. Leadership Calhoun County’s application deadline was June 7th. We had total of 36 applicants. Interviews were held on June 13th and 25 new members were chosen for the Class of 2018. LCC’s CLIMB program has three of the five available spots filled. The Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce Job Shadow Days have been set and will be hosted on Halloween (10/31/17) and Ground Hog Day (2/2/18). The Chamber Award of Excellence will start back in September in collaboration with the Anniston Museum of Natural History.
Public Affairs
Hosted a briefing with Senator Marsh on Monday, April 17th. Hosted a luncheon with Senator Strange with updates from AAD & CDP. Co-hosted breakfast with AUSA and special guest Congressman Mike Rogers Public Affairs Committee met on May 17th with discussion on Occupational Tax and report by Jack Plunk, East AL Reg. Planning & Commission Finalized plans for Washington DC Fly- in on Wed, July 26th, with discussion on 3 priority areas to take to DC Public Affairs Committee met on Wed, May 31st
Hosted JSU Small Business Development Center Procurement Workshop with 15 in attendance The Ready Business Workshop Series held the second and third of four courses on April 4th and April 20th,
Business Development
with 15 members participating in the course preparing businesses for all types of emergencies. The Ready Business Workshop Series concluded its course on May 2nd. May 11, hosted the Night of Laughter & Business Awards at the Anniston Meeting Center with 21 honorees and nearly 500 in attendance.
Organizational Development
Chamber Ambassadors meeting was held on Tuesday, April 11 at the Chamber, hosted by C.A.R.E.S. Chamber Ambassadors meeting was held on Tuesday, May 9 at the Chamber and hosted by Webb Concrete & Building Materials. Chamber Ambassadors meeting was held on Tuesday, June 13 at RMC Stringfellow Hospital. Kicked off the Chamber World Series Membership Drive on April 3 at the Chamber with 50 volunteers in attendance. Wrapped up the Chamber World Series Membership Drive during May. 104 businesses joined the Chamber because of the efforts of our volunteers and exceeded Membership Retention Goal for May. Business & Biscuits was sponsored by The Main Olive in Oxford on Thursday, April 6th with over 50 members in attendance. Business & Biscuits was sponsored by Cider Ridge Golf Club in Oxford on Thursday, May 4th with over 50 members in attendance. Lunch & Leads was held on Wednesday, April 12th. It was sponsored by C.A.R.E.S. and held at Olive Garden in Oxford with over 60 members in attendance. Lunch & Leads was held on Wednesday, May 10th. It was sponsored Webb Concrete and Building Materials and held at Yume in Oxford with over 60 members in attendance. Business After Hours was sponsored by Abbey Carpet & Floor in Anniston on Tuesday, April 18th with more than 80 members in attendance. Business After Hours was sponsored by Jacksonville State University School of Business and Industry and held at Meehan Towers at Burgess Snow Field on Tuesday, May 16th with more than 100 members in attendance. Delivered Longevity Awards to East Alabama Regional Planning & Development Commission and Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center. Longevity Awards are for businesses who have been a member of the Chamber for 30+ years. Ribbon Cuttings were held for the Calhoun County Habitat for Humanity Warehouse (grand opening), J. Mae B Boutique (grand opening), Southern Immediate Care (grand opening), McDonald's at Golden Springs (lobby remodel), RMC Oxford Mediplex (grand opening), the Coffee Clef (grand opening), Wellborn-Blue Mountain Community Center (grand opening), Data Storage Solutions (grand opening), Escape Zone Oxford (new location), and American Family Care (grand opening). 84 new members joined the Chamber in April. 17 new members joined the Chamber in May. 14 new members joined the Chamber in June. Our Chamber Ambassadors will begin planning and talking with sponsors for our 2017 Member Appreciation Day, scheduled for Friday, October 27. As a member of the Calhoun County Law Enforcement Appreciation Committee, held a week-long event for Law Enforcement Officers including guest speakers Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill and Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall. Met with the Promotions subcommittee of Main Street Anniston on May 24th to learn how the Chamber can promote the upcoming growth of downtown Anniston. The Chamber has 1147 members.
Tourism
Completed a 6 week Natural Treasure Scavenger Hunt with the Anniston Star, sending participants to each municipality to collect clues Delivered tear-away maps to area hotels Set up at the Alabama Cycling Classic as racers registered, with 503 racers on Saturday and 204 racing Sunday Attended State Tourism Workshop in Montgomery April 12, updating the information shared through the state tourism department Hosted first Attractions meeting on April 18, with six representatives in attendance
Participated in Cheaha Challenge Packet stuffing, preparing for 900 riders this year on May 21 April 19, hosted Ladiga Meeting with municipalities at Chamber Met the new National Park Service Superintendent for Birmingham and Anniston, Reggie Tiller April 28, City of Oxford's Mayor Alton Craft & John Longshore represented the Chamber and Visitors Center on Talk of Alabama, ABC 33/40. Josh Craft and John Longshore were also interviewed on K98 during April. Also attended the Coldwater Meetings, Freedom Riders Meetings and Choccolocco Park Meetings. Wrapped up K98 & Pandora Radio ads with same spot shared through both means. May 3, hosted Hotel/Motel Meeting at Jacksonville Train Depot along the Ladiga Trail, with 10 in attendance and Pete Conroy providing trail updates. Prepared 20 Coaches packets for OVC Softball and Track & Field May 9-13. All softball and track players received a Visit Calhoun County backpacks, which equaled around 1000. Set up at Oxford's Lickskillet Festival on May 13, asking trivia questions and presenting prizes to participants. Assisted with Freedom Riders Community Celebration May 13th. Attended Dixie Youth Little League World Series Meeting with District Directors and City of Oxford May 19. We've secured 600 hotel room blocks for August 4-10. Chamber staff assisted with Packet Pick-up, registration, and rest stops during Cheaha Challenge. Prepared 10 OVC Rep and Coaches packets and distributed more than 250 stress balls to coaches and players during the OVC Baseball Championship. Participated in the Ladiga Summit, May 23rd, bringing municipalities together for updates and presentations. Set up at the Cleburne Welcome Center Tourism Day May 24, distributing 112 tote bags to visitors. 337 Visitors/relocation packets given out for the month of May 206 Visitors/relocation packets were given out for June

The Visit Calhoun County Facebook Page now has 1207 likes. VisitCalhounCounty.com had more than 2,715 visitors, with 82% being new visitors. The Visit Calhoun County blog has generated more than 1359 page views. @VisitCalhounCo has 484 followers on Twitter. @VisitCalhounCo has 296 followers on Instagram. The Chamber Facebook page has 3842 likes/Followers. CalhounChamber.com had more than 13,496 visitors, with 4042 directory searches of our online membership directory. With 10 active job posting, we garnered 956 views. Our Calhounchamber.com event calendar received more than 8732 searches. Our14 Hot Deals received 876 views. The Chamber's Twitter, @CalhounChamber, has 1191followers The Chamber's Blog garnered 124 views. The Chamber's April E-Newsletter, distributed April 3, had 609 opens, of the 2160 sent. The Chamber's May E-Newsletter, distributed May 1, had 617 opens, of the 2235 sent. The Chamber's June E-Newsletter, distributed May 31, had 508 opens, of the 2061 sent. The Chamber's App, Calhoun2Go, has 177 users .

May 9, LCC’s Class of 2017 held their graduation at Zoe’s on the Lake. Leadership Calhoun County (LCC) is a ten month program of the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce, designed to prepare and build upon leadership resources within our entire county.
May 10, Webb Concrete & Building Materials hosted the Chamber's monthly Lunch & Leads at Yume in Oxford, with more than 40 in attendance. During this year's Gadsden State Honors Day, Torren Wilson of Piedmont and Markeisha Dearman of Weaver were the recipients of the Cardinal Foundation/Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce scholarships. The $500 scholarship is presented annually to a student who is a resident of Calhoun County attending either the Ayers Campus or McClellan Center with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Recipients are selected by the Gadsden State Scholarship Committee.
