Thank you for your continued support and involvement in the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce. Here’s some of our significant fourth quarter accomplishments: Program Development
YLCC's Career and Mentor's Day was held on October 4. LCC Advisory Committee met and LCC current participant, Jeff Hooie, presented class project proposal for 2nd Chance. Met at Piedmont High School to help plan the 2017 Advantage Plus event at Jacksonville State On October 25th attended a CEOs in the Classroom strategic planning and review meeting with Kelley Pearce and Theresa Shadrix On October 26th, Oxford High School had us speak to their teaching and administrative staff of 93 on Jacket Wednesday to reiterate CEOs in the Classroom's monthly topic, Communication LCC Education Day was October 27 - We had a K-12 Superintendent's Roundtable with every school district in the county represented and toured JSU and Gadsden State Community College's McClellan Campus. Partners in Education- Over the course of three weeks, have met with administrators from Anniston City Schools, Anniston Middle School, Anniston High School, Alexandria Elementary, Alexandria High School, Calhoun County Career Academy, CE Hanna Elementary, Cobb Pre-K Academy, Coldwater Elementary, Faith Christian School, Golden Springs Elementary, IMSA (Iqra Math and Science Academy), Jacksonville Christian Academy, Jacksonville High School, Kitty Stone Elementary, Ohatchee Elementary, Ohatchee High School, Oxford Elementary, Oxford Middle School, Oxford High School, Piedmont City Schools, Piedmont Elementary, Piedmont Middle School, Piedmont High School, Pleasant Valley Elementary, Pleasant Valley High School, Randolph Park Elementary, Saks Elementary, Saks Middle School, Saks High School, Trinity Christian Academy, Weaver Elementary and High School, Wellborn Elementary, Wellborn High School, White Plains Elementary, White Plains Middle School, and White Plains High School. Partners in Education kickoff meeting date is January 17, 2017 at 7:30 a.m. at the Chamber of Commerce On November 10, we had LCC Economic Development and Industry Day. On November 1, YLCC had Quality of Life Day. On Dec. 8, LCC had Cultural Arts/Board Training/Financial Sector Day. The LCC Advisory Committee, YLCC and the LCC class gift wrapped for 2nd Chance to earn hours towards the class project. On Dec 6th, YLCC had their Local Government Day.
Public Affairs
Newly Elected Officials reception was on Tuesday, November 15th at the Anniston Museum of Natural History during Business After Hours. Committee members met with Mark Colson, Senior VP for Governmental Affairs & Chief of Staff at the Business Council of Alabama. Mayor's Roundtable was hosted December 13th, with all 7 municipal mayors in attendance and Mayor Rooks of Heflin. Legislative agendas were created for both State and Federal levels.
Business Development
More than 1500 attended the 32nd Annual Business EXPO on October 18! More than 50 bottles of wine were donated. 31 tickets were sold, raising $310 for the Chamber in non-dues revenue. Meeting Mentors had 20 students from JSU and GSCC attend and meet with 9 mentors from various fields. Restaurant Week had 10 Restaurants participate. 10 Small Businesses participated in the Chamber's Shop Small Saturday promotion. Business Builder Series on Accounting for Small Business was held on Friday, November 11th with 5 in attendance 9 members attended the first Spritz and Splash Holiday Paint Party on December 5. The Mini Christmas Tree Contest had 21 participants. The contest brought in a total of 865 cans that were donated to All Saints Center of Concern, Community Enabler Developer, and Cornerstone Church. The winner of the contest was the Calhoun County Sherriff's Office.
Organizational Development
The Chamber's Annual Member Appreciation Day was held on Friday, October 7 at the Chamber. Congratulations to our contest winners - Adult Tricycle Race Champion Christy Benitez, Pie Eating Champion Jessica O'Rear, and Hula Hoop Toss Champions Ted Copland and Melody Hammonds. Retention visits are now being made with a goody bag for each upcoming renewal. 42 retention visits to members with upcoming renewals were made in October. 48 retention visits to members with upcoming renewals, and 71 prospect calls and visits in November. 58 retention visits to members with upcoming renewals , and 62 prospect calls and visits in December. Business & Biscuits was sponsored by Webb Concrete and Building Materials at the Webb Showroom in Oxford on Thursday, October 6 with over 40 members in attendance. Business & Biscuits was sponsored by Cheaha Bank in Jacksonville on Thursday, November 3 with over 60 members in attendance. Business & Biscuits was held at Autumn Cove Assisted Living on Thursday, December 1st with over 40 members in attendance. Lunch & Leads was held on Wednesday, October 12. It was sponsored by Cheaha Bank and held at Struts in Oxford with 30 members in attendance. Lunch & Leads was held on Wednesday, November 9. It was sponsored by Alabama Power and held at Cheaha Brewing Company in Anniston with 35 members in attendance. Lunch & Leads was held on Wednesday, December 14. It was sponsored by The Donoho School and held at Effina's Downton in Anniston with 30 members in attendance. Business after Hours was held during the Business to Business Expo on Tuesday, October 18 at the Anniston City Meeting Center. Attendees included Chamber members and members of the community. Business after Hours was sponsored by the Chamber Public Affairs Committee on Tuesday, November 15 at the Anniston Museum of Natural History. Business after Hours was held at Alexanders at Noble Shops on Tuesday, December 13 in Anniston with more than 70 members in attendance. Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies were held for Harmony's General Merchandise Store (grand opening), Harmonizing the Christian Way (grand opening church), Anniston Housing Authority's first remodeled home (grand opening), Bonnie Ray's Bake Shoppe (new location), Brassie's Federal Credit Union (new location), Music Box II (new location), Ashley HomeStore (grand opening), Financial Education Services (new business), a Ground Breaking for Fort McClellan Credit Union, The Main Olive, Oxford (grand opening), Diversicare, Oxford (new management), and A Side Note, Anniston (grand opening). Member Orientation was held on Wednesday, October 26 with four members in attendance. Four members attended the Orientation Webinar held later that day. Member Orientation was held on Wednesday, November 23 with three members in attendance. Member Orientation was held on Wednesday, December 28 with three members in attendance. Chamber Ambassadors met on Tuesday, November 8th at Model City Insurance in Anniston. Chamber Ambassadors met on Tuesday, December 6 at Courtyard by Marriott Anniston/Oxford to celebrate our 2016 accomplishments. The Chamber currently has 1086 members. 13 new members joined the Chamber in October. 14 new members joined the Chamber in November. 6 new members joined the Chamber in December. There are 136 new members year to date.
Tourism

Held Hotel/Motel Meeting at Choccolocco Park on November 15, with 11 in attendance. Held Ladiga Trail Meeting on November 16, with 12 in attendance. Attended the Cleburne I-20 Welcome Center Holiday Open House with 4 area hoteliers on December 15. Met with the Coldwater Committee on December 13. Hosted the Ladiga Trail Meeting with trail and municipal representatives on December 13.
Public Relations
The Visit Calhoun County Facebook Page now has 1164 likes. VisitCalhounCounty.com had more than 1,235 visitors, with 83% being new visitor and 98% from the U.S. The Visit Calhoun County blog has generated more than 1,128 page views. @VisitCalhounCo has 417 followers on Twitter. @VisitCalhounCo has 231 followers on Instagram, with 1220 new likes and 27 comments from 65 pictures and hashtags. The Chamber Facebook page has 3696 likes/Followers. CalhounChamber.com had more than 12,021 visitors, with 13,625 directory searches of our online membership directory. With 5 active job postings, we garnered 180 views. Our Calhounchamber.com event calendar received more than 168,600 searches. Our 23 Hot Deals received 641 views. The Chamber's Twitter, @CalhounChamber, has 1,098 followers The Chamber's Blog garnered 356 views. The Chamber's October E-Newsletter, distributed October 3, had 469 opens, of the 2005 sent. The Chamber's November E-Newsletter, distributed October 31, had 469 opens, of the 2043 sent. The Chamber's December E-Newsletter, distributed November 28, had 473 opens, of the 2044 sent. The Chamber's App, Calhoun2Go, has 166 users.

October 4, Youth Leadership Calhoun County class members had their Career & Mentor Day, giving students an opportunity to meet mentors in careers of their interest, take personality tests to learn more about themselves, hear from Chick-fil-A's Erik Smith about customer service and conduct interviews with Tyler Union's Anthony Whitley.
October 12, Cheaha Bank hosted Lunch & Leads at Struts of Oxford, located at 88 Ali Way. Those in attendance were asked a dozen "Have You Ever" questions to get to know each other better.
October 6, Webb Concrete & Building Materials sponsored and hosted the Chamber’s monthly Business and Biscuits at the Webb Showroom, located at 1021 Snow Street in Oxford. October 14, ribbon cuttings were held for Harmony’s General Merchandise Store and Harmonizing Christian Way, located at 703 Wilmer Avenue in Anniston.
October 7, the Chamber hosted its annual Member Appreciation at the Chamber office, with everything from the Stryker, the Talladega Pace Car, a Human Hula-Hoop Toss, Giant Jenga, Corn Hole, Tri-cycle Race, Pie Eating Contest and food!
October 11th, the Cleburne County Welcome Center Staff joined us for a Familiarization Tour of Calhoun County. October 16, Choccolocco Park celebrated its grand opening of the state-of-the-art athletic fields, picnic pavilions, walking and biking trails, and a Boundless Playground.

November Events
November 1, Youth Leadership Calhoun County considered what makes Calhoun County a great place to live, work and visit during Quality of Life Day. They explored local arts at the Oxford Performing Arts Center, toured and recorded at Longleaf Studios, and got a behind the scenes tour at the Berman The Chamber Ambassadors monthly meeting was held at Model City Insurance on November 8. The Ambassador Museum and Anniston Museum of Natural History. program consists of enthusiastic volunteers from who donate their time to help build member commitment and raise community awareness of the Chamber. November 2, our Board of Directors gathered at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park for a board meeting and fall retreat to set the mission areas for 2017. Incoming Chamber Chair Barry E. Robertson and Chamber Treasurer Rod Nowlin welcomed Anniston's Mayor Jack Draper and Oxford's Mayor Alton Craft to the Board Retreat.
November 3, Cheaha Bank hosted the Chamber’s monthly Business & Biscuits at their Jacksonville branch, located at 1500 Pelham Road South, with more than 60 in attendance.
November 4, the Chamber hosted a “Business Builder” workshop for small businesses on accounting, featuring a panel of Theresa Lackey of Lackey Inc., Philip Mallows of Mallows Accounting Services, Gerald Pentecost, Jr. CPA, and Tim Wilson of Warren Averett, LLC.
November 9, Lunch and Leads was hosted by Alabama Power at Cheaha Brewing Company, located at 1208 Walnut Avenue in Anniston.
November 10, Leadership Calhoun County had their Industry Day, featuring presentations from the Economic Development Council and McClellan Development Authority and tours of Bridgewater Interiors, Howard Core Company and Industry Products Company.

On December 1, Autumn Cove hosted the Chamber's monthly Business & Biscuits with more than 50 in attendance. December 13, the Chamber hosted our quarterly Mayors' Roundtable with all seven Calhoun County Municipalities' Mayors and including Mayor Rudy Rooks of Heflin.
The Main Olive held their ribbon cutting on Friday, December 2nd. The Main Olive is located at 508 Main Street in Oxford. December 13, Alexander's at Noble Shops hosted the Chamber's Business After Hours at their new location at 1118 Noble Street in Anniston. That evening we also celebrated a ribbon cutting for this new business!
December 6, Youth Leadership Calhoun County had their Local Government and Life Skills Day, visiting with elected officials and even attending an etiquette lunch.
December 14, The Donoho School hosted Lunch & Leads at Effina's Downtown, located at 919 Noble Street in Anniston. December 8, Diversicare celebrated a ribbon cutting for their location at 1130 South Hale Street in Oxford.
December 8, Leadership Calhoun County had their Cultural Arts, Board Training & Financial Sectors Day, also featuring an etiquette luncheon for the class.
December 15, the Chamber Board met for the final time of 2016 at the Chamber office. Their next meeting will be the Chamber’s Annual Meeting on Thursday, February 2.

December 16, A Side Note celebrated their opening with a ribbon cutting in their new location with The Music Box II at 1018 Noble Street in Anniston. Local Hoteliers, Attractions and the Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center joined the Alabama Welcome Center for their Holiday Open House on December 15.
The 2016 Christmas in Calhoun County Mini-Tree Contest 21 members of the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce have decorated a mini Christmas Tree in our Chamber lobby! Visitors, Friends and family could vote for their favorite on Facebook, vote by ballot at the Chamber or vote by donating a canned good for five votes. A total of 865 cans were donated to All Saints Center of Concern, Community Enabler Developer, and Cornerstone Church.
Our 1st Place Winner was the Calhoun County Sheriff ’s Office! 2nd Place went to Auto Custom Carpets, & 3rd Place went to Camp Lee.

Krychelle has joined the Chamber team as Program Director, where she will work in the areas of Leadership Calhoun County, Youth Leadership, Workforce Development and Partners in Education. Originally from Oakman, Alabama, Krychelle Smith now lives in Jacksonville. Krychelle met her husband Ryan at Jacksonville State University, where he played football and she served as a tutor. Now, they have eleven year old twin boys, Nate and Nick, and a four year old girl, Audrey. Krychelle can often be found at football, baseball, basketball or soccer games with her children, who are also involved in Boy Scouts and Beginner Band at Kitty Stone. Krychelle attends Covenant Life Ministries in Alexandria and is very active in the POUND Fit “Posse” of the Anniston Aquatics and Fitness Center. Krychelle also enjoys going to concerts, reading and cheering on her JSU Gamecocks! Krychelle says, “I’m excited to serve my community through the Chamber.” Welcome to the Chamber team Krychelle!

Chamber Manager Linda Hearn Celebrates 26 Years at the Chamber Congratulations to our Chamber Manager Linda Hearn, who celebrated 26 years with the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce on November 26th! Linda Hearn has worked at the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce almost as long as she has lived in Calhoun County. In 1990, Linda was working as a Loan Executive at the United Way, when someone mentioned an opportunity as Membership Director for the Chamber of Commerce. she started her legacy here. “Over the years, after starting in membership, I subbed in other positions, with Program Development and overseeing Leadership Calhoun County, to Tourism and Business Development,” says Linda. With her well-rounded knowledge of the Chamber, it was a natural fit for her to step into the position of Chamber Manager in 2011. Thank you for your dedication to the Chamber!
