Growing up, Barbara Chambers always knew she wanted to be an architect. “Even as a young girl in art class, I was drawing houses,” says the Colorado native who received a Master’s degree in architecture from the University of Colorado. “I used to remodel my bedroom two or three times a year. My favorite activity on Sunday afternoon was to drive around and look at beautiful buildings and the landscapes that surrounded them.” The Mill Valleybased architect—who launched her firm Chambers + Chambers in 1995 specializing in high-end residential design throughout Marin County and the Bay Area—is inspired by travel, art, furniture, and gardens around the world. “I absolutely love what I do, and my life is consumed with interior design, architecture, and landscape design,” adds Chambers. “Simplicity, grace, and understated beauty define our classically-inspired architectural and interior design. As a residential architect nothing gives me more pleasure than to create a home for my clients. It’s my hope that they are elegant, comfortable, and welcoming.”
