Curriculum Planning Worksheet This is meant to be a guide for your planning. It includes elements of good pedagogy and best practices that CCAP encourages from all of our Teaching Artists. Yoga Class with Miss Katie “Yogi the Yoga Panda: The Musical” Callie Brown, JC Joson, Tiffany Lee
Intentions for Teaching and Learning: What do you want the students to learn/explore as a result of this project? Artistic Process: Students will be creating their very own song lines to fit into the musical; practice in creative writing and music. They also will be creating their very own yoga pose. Social/Emotional:Students will support one another in their singing and yoga endeavors and work together in practice to complete the musical. Also, with the realization of the moral of the story, when Yogi realizes the light in all of us (the meaning of Namaste), the students will also realize the true meaning of Namaste. Other:Students are building upon prior knowledge of the practice of yoga taught to them by Miss Katie—this project creates more connections and allows students to express creativity to solidify their knowledge.

Description of Final Product: What will the students present for the showcase? Students will be presenting “Yogi the Yoga Panda: The Musical,” in which they will all
sing and read their individually created lines. Documentation: How will you tell the story of this experience? (video, photo, interview, etc) We will be documenting the musical with photo and video.
MONDAY, 1/14 Creating a Safe Community of Learners: How will you learn your students’ names? How will you set a positive and focused tone for your class? How will you teach/ model the way you want your students to behave? How will they know what to expect? Time:10 Description of Activity/Activities: By sharing our names and sharing a minutes dream of ours in a circle, students and teaching artists will become (# of minutes) acquainted and a positive tone will be set for the experience. As we are sharing teaching duties, when one mentor is not teaching they will be Who will lead? modeling how an ideal student would behave. Due to a hint at the Shared project to come, students will look forward to learning about their project to come. The Big Idea: How will you engage the students in the project? Time:10 Description of Activity: After their class ritual of singing their “Namaste minutes Song” we will get back into a circle to explain the project they will be taking part in. Time:10 Description of Activity/Activities: We will begin with a nerve fighting minutes singing exercise to make the students comfortable with their singing assignment and also go around the circle and share about ourselves to Who will lead? build trust and friendship with each other. Time:20 Description of Activity/Activities: Students will finish up their lines and minutes poses and polish them and practice for the teaching artists. Students and teachers will work together with feedback to make the best piece with the student as possible. Time:20 The students will run through as many rehearsals of the musical as minutes possible, sharing with the class and the teaching artists what they have individually created. Time:10 Description of Activity/Activities: we will again begin class with the minutes Namaste song and a circle share to give students a sense of friendly community. Who will lead? shared HOW ARE YOU WRAPPING UP THE PROJECT? CREATE (Learning in the Language of the Arts): What will the need to finish up to be ready for the showcase? How are they incorporating the critique/ feedback? How will you guide them through that? Time:20 Description of Activity/Activities: We will be running through the minutes musical as many times as possible so that the students feel prepared and confident to perform for the showcase. Time:10 We will end class with a circle share about why they are excited for the minutes musical, leaving the students with anticipation for their performance.
