Bulldogs Pull Away From Roscoe To Overcome Halftime Deficit BY JENNIFER CRAIG The Stamford Bulldogs used last second heroics as the first half ended to kick start a second half surge against the Roscoe Plowboys Friday night in rainy Roscoe. Despite not making it as an area TV Play of the Week, the last play of the first half was worth the price of admission and propelled the Bulldogs to a 33 point second half while Bulldog defenders held the Plowboys to just eight in the final 24 minutes. The play in question was a Hail Mary put up by Peyton Bevel as time was expiring. The ball sailed toward Zach Duran in the far back of the end zone. Duran jumped up and tipped the ball back into the end zone without letting his feet touch out of bounds. Tre Mitchell was there to catch the tip and the touchdown for the Bulldogs.

BY HOLLY BEARDEN As I’m sure most of you have noticed if you’ve been to a Bulldog pep rally, each week towards the end of the pep rally the cheerleaders line up on the sideline of the basketball court. After the traditional Victory yell, the girl in the far left corner pauses and kicks over a megaphone, then the crowd goes wild!

Two Polling Locations Combined in Anson BY KAY SPEARS The regularly scheduled second Monday Jones County Commissioners Court was held on September 10, 2018. In attendance were Judge Dale Spurgin, County Commissioners James Clawson, Steve Lefevre, Ross Davis, Joe Whitehorn and County Clerk Lee Ann Jennings. The Court approved the minutes of the last regular meeting held on Monday, August 27, 2018. Judge Spurgin stated the first item on the agenda was ongoing, that

being the Disaster Declaration and all items related regarding FEMA, TDA and TDEM forms and requirements. A desk review on the first TDA disaster is scheduled in Austin, TX for Tuesday, September 11th and Judge Spurgin will be in attendance. Regarding FEMA Disaster #4269, another extension will be requested. The last extension expires in October, 2018 and work remains to be completed. Next on the agenda concerned the EFORCE licensing agreement. The initial payment was approved by the Commis-

sioners prior to this meeting. The actual licensing agreement was approved. The next item was to discuss and take action on Memorandum of Understanding for Outreach, Screening, Assessment, and Referral Program with Abilene Regional Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Inc. There has been an ongoing contract for ARCADA to accept referrals from the Jones County probation department and anyone else seeking related counseling. The renewal of the contract at no cost to Jones County was approved.

To discuss and take action on the County Child Welfare Services Non-Financial Agreement was next. The new agreement will cover October 1, 2018 – September 30, 2025. Comparing the last agreement, signed in 2008, Judge Spurgin stated the current agreement was basically the same. One exception was removing the requirement of inspecting housing or a facility that holds children. There are stipulations where the County can fund areas at the County’s discretion.
