First Friends BY HEATHER SUTTON At a time when living costs are on the rise in Texas it is getting harder and harder to have one parent stay at home with the children. And with school budgets and programs such as after school programs being cut, where are working parents supposed to find an affordable program for their elementary aged kids to attend? Jones County Fair This Weekend The 59th Annual Jones County Fair will be held September 21-23, 2017 in Anson, Texas. Livestock Division will be held in the Jones County Show Barns, 803 23rd St., Saturday, September 23rd. Livestock entries will consist of Cattle, Sheep and Goat. You must be a member of the FFA or 4-H organization and be a resident of the State of Texas to enter. Home & Garden Division will be held at Lawrence Hall Activity Center, 801 23rd St. beginning on Thursday, September 21st with the check
in process. Divisions are Textiles, Preserves, Baked Goods, Antiques and Collectibles, Recycled Home Arts, Horticulture, Special Division, Photography, Art, Grandparents Brag, Educational Exhibits, Hobbies and Crafts. On Saturday, September 23rd, there will be an Ice Cream Contest for all ages to enter. Many activities are planned throughout the duration of the day for all ages. New Faces and a Fresh Look at Stamford Health Club You may have noticed several new faces at Stamford Health Club recently with the addition of new Manager Diana Sanchez and Certified Personal Trainer Joel DePorte. Stamford Health Club is also working to enhance services with a new membership system, more classes and continuing to freshen the look of the facility. Manager Diana Sanchez may be a new face at Stamford Health Club but she has been a part of the community for many years. She is a native of Haskell and graduated from Paint Creek High School. She studied at Cisco College and received certification in Nutrition, Exercise and Fitness from the Professional Career Development Institute. For the past eight years, Diana has worked for Outreach Health Services in the WIC Program headquartered in Stamford and most recently served as Supervisor for the program. SEE CLUB, PAGE 13
