Bulldogs Thrash Cubs 58-0 BY JENNIFER CRAIG

The Stamford Bulldogs exploded for big plays to overwhelm the visiting Olney Cubs Friday night at Bill Anderson Stadium. The Dogs had four scoring plays of 50+ yards as they raced to a 45-0 halftime lead before coasting to a 58-0 final. The scoring got started after Blue’s defense forced an Olney punt. Steven Johnson took the punt and raced 53

yards for the first of three punt return touchdowns. Another three and out forced a punt toward the sideline. Johnson grabbed the football and tiptoed down the sideline for a 54 yard return. That’s two punt return touchdowns in just over two minutes of play. Blue’s defense was so dominant that the Cubs did not record a first down until 10:01 in the second quarter and only had three for the entire game.

Stamford’s first offensive possession of the game was short lived as Peyton Bevel hit Trace Edwards for a 44 yard touchdown pass. RJ Smith’s PAT gave the Dogs a 19-0 lead. A short punt gave the Bulldogs the ball at the Olney 44. Bevel’s pass to Lonnie Applin was good for 29 yards. Johnson sliced through traffic for the final 15 yards. SEE BULLDOGS, PAGE 6

Braleigh Hickman was crowned Homecoming Queen by 2016 Queen Taylor Beeson at Friday night’s game against Olney. She was escorted by her dad, Dallas Hickman.
