City Council Discusses Wish List for 2019 BY KAY SPEARS
Mayor James Decker with Wife Lauren and sister Jessice try to get daughter Miriam to smile for the camera during the Christmas on the Square event on December 1st.
‘Tis the Season for Christmas Movies BY KAY SPEARS Do you have favorite Christmas movies you watch every year? We live in such a great time, we can put a movie in the DVD player or watch one online or Netflix or Hulu or, or, or. There are several movies not many people watch because they don’t know about them. Let me introduce you to them.
Miracle on 34th Street from 1947 is worth watching in the original black and white. It’s a great movie to begin the season with on Thanksgiving. It begins with the Macy’s Day Parade and takes us to Christmas with a skeptical little girl who meets the real Santa. The Bishop’s Wife is an old (1947) black and white film staring Cary Grant, Loretta Young and David
Niven. Imagine Cary Grant as an angel come to earth to answer a preacher’s prayer but no one knows he’s an angel except the clergyman. The preacher prayed for guidance, however he gets more than he bargained for from the handsome angel. Dolly Pardon made a Christmas musical for TV in 1986 named A Smoky Mountain Christmas.
