SHOW CONTENT GUIDE: OCT 26-NOV 6, 2016: A new governess brings music and laughter into the home of a stuffy Austrian naval captain. While dark in places (the growth of Nazism plays a role), the story is generally bright and uplifting, rich in character, music and story, as well as filled with positive messages. Generally considered appropriate for all ages.
DEC 27, 2016-JAN 1, 2017: Every bit as family-friendly as the original film, this musical tells the story of a song-and-dance team putting on a show in a magical Vermont inn and falling for a stunning sister act in the process. The show is full of dancing, comedy and memorable songs. There is a lot to look at: colorful sets, elaborate song-and-dance sequences and a blanket of “snow” that covers the auditorium at curtain call.
JAN 31-FEB 5, 2017: Charlie, a shy and straitlaced shoe factory owner, and Lola, a flamboyant drag queen, form an unlikely partnership to save Charlie’s failing business: Instead of men’s dress shoes, they produce fancy footwear for drag artists. In the process, they discover the importance of friendship and accepting other people as they are. Contains adult themes and relationships, very mild violence, mild language and sexual references, including talk about cross-dressing.
MAR 7-12, 2017: Monty Navarro, a penniless British commoner, proceeds in ridding the D’Ysquith lineage of its remaining family members, after learning that he is ninth in line to inherit the earldom of Highhurst. Monty does indeed bump off his inconvenient relatives, but these “accidents” are played for comedy, not horror. The show contains sexually suggestive physicality and references, including a number of innuendoes and double entendres, and the fact that Monty has a mistress.
APR 18-23, 2017: This romantic thriller, about a bodyguard hired to protect a pop music superstar from an unknown stalker who has threatened her life, is based on the 1992 film starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston. The show contains violence, mild profanity, sexual references, and content that some may find scary.
MAY 17-28, 2017: Based on the classic novel Le Fantôme de L’Opéra by Gaston Leroux, tells the story of a masked figure who lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House, exercising a reign of terror over all who inhabit it. He falls madly in love with an innocent young soprano, Christine, and devotes himself to creating a new star by nurturing her extraordinary talents and by employing all of the devious methods at his command. We offer an assessment of each show’s content to help patrons decide which shows are appropriate for themselves and those they bring to the theatre. As the assessments are subjective, we encourage patrons do their own research on a show if they are in doubt about its content, including reviewing other sources such as the show’s website. For more information please call the Box Office at (916) 557-1999 or visit www.BroadwaySacramento.com. Please remember that performances can run up to 3 hours, including intermission, which may not be ideal for a younger child with a limited attention span. And note that children under 4 (including babes in arms) are not permitted in the theatre.
