Touching lives in India | Changing hearts at home & around the world

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:16-18

And wherever he went — into villages, towns or countryside — they placed the sick in the marketplaces.

and all who touched it were healed.

How You Can Help Will you join us in prayer for these key organizations that are touching lives for Christ? Our target this year is to raise $225,000 to help these ministries fulfill the vision God has given them. Return your Open Door Vision (ODV) giving envelope by mail or

Touching the City of Grand Rapids

Bible World: Rehoboth – Calvary-supported workers Jonathan and Hannah Victor’s vision is to build a Bible school and center to reach their community in the shadow of the Hindu temples of Madurai.

Kerala Bible Baptist College equips church leaders to meet the challenges – in spite of persecution – presented by the great response there has been to the Gospel. Scholarships will help Shibu Simon and his team train those who otherwise could not afford Bible college.

Urban Transformation Ministry (UTM), partnering with our friends at New City Church, has learned what keeps young urban men from living out their new faith. These men need housing to live in community and challenge each other to grow as followers of Jesus, doers of the Word and leaders of the church. Our gifts will help UTM provide this housing.

Faith-in-Deeds Children’s Home – One young couple living in moment-by-moment obedience results in children rescued, discipled, and released to touch their nation with Jesus’ love and a Biblical worldview.

Mission India: Literacy Training lifts people out of a cycle of poverty, oppression, and homelessness. Many of these “untouchables” meet Christ and join together in churches.

We will also have an opportunity this Christmas to help our partners at Take Hold Church as they plan to show Christ’s love by providing gifts to many in the Heartside district.

What is Open Door Vision (ODV)? • A 15+ year tradition of generosity at Calvary. • An opportunity for strategic disciple-making – in our community and around the world. • A chance to uphold existing ministry partners and embrace new ones. This year through ODV, we will partner with four organizations who are touching lives in India – a nation where: • Almost 20% of the world’s 7 billion people live; 500 million of them are living in extreme poverty. • There are more children under the age of 15 than the entire US population, and this number includes 35 million orphans. • 133 ethnic people groups remain trapped in Hinduism or Islam, without access to the Gospel. • Caste-based discrimination and persecution of believers is still widespread. • God is growing His church – often faster than leaders can be trained! We will also support an organization right here in our own community, that God is using to change hearts of young urban men in need of true biblical discipleship.
